Taylor Kitsch Talks About Gambit; Will He Return To The Role?

Click here to find out what the actor had to say when asked if there are currently any plans for him to return to the role of Gambit in any future X-Men films...

Taylor Kitsch who you all remember played Gambit in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', recently sat down with Comingsoon.net for an interview on his new movie 'The Bang Bang Club', and the interviewer couldn't resist but to ask Kitsch if there are currently any plans for him to return to the character of Gambit in any future installments in the 'X-Men' franchise.

"There were strong rumors a while ago, but I haven't heard or seen anything tangible anyways," he told them in response. "I know if we do it, it'll probably be down the road and we'll do it hopefully a lot darker. I'd love to play him again, but it's a matter of doing it right, too. There's no point in just doing it for the sake of doing it. You gotta kill if you're going to do it, so we'll see."

So what do you guys think? Would you be up for seeing Kitsch as Gambit again or would you rather have the role re-cast if they were ever to introduce the character again?

Lmao. Like this guy knows anything about Gambit. That's like saying Joel Schmauer is an expert on Batman costumes.

First! thought he was fine as Gambit, the least of Wolverine's problems

PERSONALLY, if he could work on the accent, i wouldnt mind him being Gambit again...he wasnt terrible, infact i was expecting something horrible but he was one of the best things about Xmen Origins..

Hmmm... If X-Men Origins: Wolverine is out of continuity now, it's probably best to change the other actors, Ryan Reynolds being the obvious exception due to his involvement in Deadpool. Although it would be a shame to lose Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth... In which case it's pointless keeping half the cast, unless the role is recast.
Kitsch was pretty good in the role, but there were a few things I didn't like (e.g Gambit having normal eyes, or the fact that he's 25ish in 1979 makes him 55+ in any future X-Men sequel they make and want to include him in). If the next appearance of Gambit is set shortly after Wolverine, I'd be ok with him returning, but if he's back in, for example, X4 or 5, then the role should be recast to someone older (not necessarily over 55, but at least a decade older than Kitsch)

@ACira X-Men Origins: Wolverine is only "out of continuity" because Bryan Singer says so. Yet I seem to remember that he had absolutely nothing to do with the movie. Do not let Fox trick you into thinking that you should forget the colossal failure that is X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Never forget......Barakapool......NEVAH!

I always thought Ethan Hawke would make a sick Gambit. obviously not 2011 Hawke but late 90's early 00's Hawke. And he had the talent to kill it too.

@Illumanitus for me Barakapool was the thing that ruined X-Men Origins for me, I actually enjoyed most of it up til then, after that the movie just failed miserably.
Wolverine and Sabretooth being brothers was awesome, added a great dynamic and was an idea based on what was going to happen at one point in the comics, and the other characters were brilliant too. Then they twisted and warped my favourite, blabber mouth character into a silent, no-mouth drone with sword arms, and after (what was still pretty epic) the final fight, they ended it with a bullet causing Wolverine's memory loss, Silverfox causing Styker's limp by making him power walk, and a fairly badass Gambit becoming nothing more than a background character...
@Everyone please check this out, I posted it a while ago but it basically shows how I think X-Men Origins Wolverine could have been a much better movie with a few simple changes

Thought he did a good job. Guess he could work on his Cajun accent. I live in MS on the coast so I know a lot of people and even have a few people in my family that are cajun. Yes, some do have super thick cajun accents, but also there are many, especially the younger crowd, thats accents aren't as thick. That being said I thought his accent was very close to that of the younger generation. He really looked the part in my opinion. I would love to see him reprise his role as Gambit in his own film or as a supporting role in another.

CorndogBurglar - 4/22/2011, 4:50 AM
it wasn't that he was bad as Gambit, its that Gambit was done horribly wrong in Origins. Jumping off rooftops and spinning his staff to slow his fall like a helicopter??? WTF. Slamming his wooden staff into the side of a brick building and using the pieces to climb? it was just ridiculous.

and the people at FOX must think that all mutants have the ability of super agility and can jump crazy heights, because it seems like everyone does that in their movies.

your absolutely right pointing out that's the default answer. everyone just says " make it darker and do it right" I love that second answer. Doing it right as appose to not doing it right??? There shouldn't be an option of doing it right and not right it should just ALWAYS BE DONE RIGHT.

also if they do a reboot of the actor for gambit i think Josh Holloway would be next in line. as much as i hated lost he's a good actor and i know he can do a good Cajun voice.

he was ok but the studio completely screwed up gambit. JOSH HOLLOWAY is who they need for Gambit!
gambgel

I like him as an actor.... but he never was my ideal Gambit, neither Josh.

the Gambit from the comics, first animated series has a very specific look.

But Id like to see him again as Gambit and with his accent.

I want him in X4, tho, directed by Singer and with a good role and starting flirting with Rogue, but not ending together until X5, if made.

Awful, Awful gambit. This is coming from one of the biggest fans of the character there is, believe me.
JWStubner

I dunno about you guys but I think this guy was as good as Gambit as anyone else would have been. When he was first cast as Gambit I remember rolling my eyes and then I saw X-Men Origins and he was one of the only things that DIDN'T piss me off. The real question in all of this is will Liev Schreiber ever going to be brought back as Sabertooth because he knocked that roll out of the park and made it a role worth having.
JWStubner
JWStubner - 4/22/2011, 8:12 AM
Timothy Olyphant would have made a better Gambit. This guy sucks.
TheIntruder - 4/22/2011, 3:12 AM

Nevermind...Olyphant WOULD do better than Taylor Kitsch.
SuperSpiderMan5778
SuperSpiderMan5778 - 4/22/2011, 9:29 AM
i hope that if he does return its for X-Men 4 and also in one of the installments for the First Class series maybe X-Men First Class 3. if they do bring him back his powers should have evolved to the point his eyes are red and black at all times and we get purple flames when he uses his kinetic powers.

He was fine for the part, the presentation wasn't his fault becasue that's what the producers and directors made him do. He had basically a glorified cameo role, like he said..

"There's no point in just doing it for the sake of doing it. You gotta kill if you're going to do it, so we'll see."

That tells me he wasn't happy with the finished version either and knows the potential of what the character could be if done right on screen. Most people here simply thing the character has to look like whatever favourite artist or cartoon rendering they find definitive. Screw that, it's a live action movie so you cater for the essence of the character, not some artist or cartoon tracers limitations. Give him another shot!

I Think he'll do great, has alot of potential, and a long ways to go. Now personally, If I were to direct a X-Men movie, I would want Jared Padelecki AKA Supernatural dude for the Ragin Cajun.
Jared Padalecki Pictures, Images and Photos

@Gambit89 Yeah I wouldn't mind him.
