Description Of The New Captain America: TFA Trailer

Although it's not online yet for your viewing pleasure, we do have a pretty cool description of the brand new trailer for Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger...

Tonight at the Hero Complex Film Festival people in attendance were treated to a brand new trailer for Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger, and while unfortunately it hasn't made it's way online for us to view and it's looking like it wont be for another week, the folks over at Newsarama were lucky enough to be there to see the new trailer and have posted this description of the footage they were shown.

It’s a much more linear trailer than past Cap footage, starting off with a skinny Steve Rogers in a car with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), interspersed with footage of him courageously getting beaten up by neighborhood toughs in an alley. The military scenes show him herorically jumping on an (inactive) grenade during a drill, with Colonel Chester Phillips — played by Tommy Lee Jones — remarking “He’s still skinny.”

Things move to Steve undergoing the Super-Soldier treatment, with Stanley Tucci’s Abraham Erskine telling him to not lose sight of being a good man first. Steve: “Is it too late to go to the bathroom?” Quick action shots follow, including Steve getting the Cap costume (voiceover: “You’re going to get so many chicks with that”), Captain America on a motorcycle and a brief shot of Sebastian Stan as Bucky.

The trailer also provides a direct introduction of Red Skull; naming him Johann Schmidt, the head of Hydra, with shots of him both as the Red Skull and in his less ghoulish cover with, y’know, Hugo Weaving’s face. The end of the trailer is the same as the TV spot released last week — Red Skull asking Captain America who he thinks he is, and Cap responding that he’s just a kid from Brooklyn.

Throughout the trailer was music from the song “Forty-Six and 2″ by the band Tool.

The trailer was preceded by a video introduction from Captain America: The First Avenger title star Chris Evans. Hero Complex’s Geoff Boucher also talked briefly before the footage with First Avenger screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who emphasized the importance of getting to know a pre-Super-Soldier Serum Steve Rogers as a character first, and cited Raiders of the Lost Ark as an inspiration.

Here's a video of the song 46 & 2 by TOOL which is featured in the trailer.

Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters July 22nd.

That sounds awful. But I'm sure the Cap trailer will be much better than the way this guy describes it.

I never would have thought Tool would be appropriate but that particular song is very apt. Plus, I like Marvel's balls for using it!

Maybe I am just being really negative, but aside from Tool this sounds like a rehash of the same shit that left me unimpressed in the first place. Oh well, I will be lining up to see it when it opens anyway.

Can't wait for this movie, the beginning of Marvel, it's been way too long for Captain America to properly make it to the big screen. Isn't the second trailer coming out a bit too close to the film? Ah well...waiting nonetheless...

Tool seems an odd pairing with Captain America.

46 & 2 is a badass song, will suit perfectly on CAP trailer. I remember it being used on Iron Man 2 Comic Con Trailer, It was awesome. Cant wait for it.

DOES EVERYONE HAVE AN ATTENTION SPAN OF 30 SECONDS!?!?!?! Didn't they use "46 & 2" for the IronMan 2 trailer too??? Come on Marvel!!! Dont get lazy, ya self-repeating MF'ers. I'm super excited for Cap. Thor's script was waaaay better than the Disney-fied mainstream crap we got force fed, First Class was surprisingly REALLY good. GL still looks like a bag of steaming assholes, this has always been the wildcard.

Has Marvel lost it?The movie comes 3 weeks after the behemoth Transformers 3,a week later to sureshot billionaire HP8 who have 10 times International presence than this Movie and only 5 weeks left to the release and still no Trailer???They gonna ruin it like TIH..nobody will know when it came and when it went.Or maybe they think they have spent enough already and won't invest another penny in any kind of marketing.
Thor could make only $450 mill despite being the summer starter and megatonnes of marketing..now what shall we expect from TFA ?? $290-$320 max ww.

Not sure why they're waiting so long, but they do have a good trailer out. You would think that once they finished putting it together, they want to get it out as soon as possible. I don't know what benefit there is to waiting.

unlike thor,x-men first class & the green lantern.

but i do want to see another trailer before 29.7.11.

@ClarkKent!985- Tool is a prog metal band, not a grunge band... and they sound nothing like nirvana.

anyway, excited to see the new trailer.

@ClarkKent1985 -- no offense intended, but Nirvana and Tool sound NOTHING alike. Not even remotely. Not even a little. And the last thing Tool sings about is girlfriends leaving. Prison rape, yes. But girlfriends leaving, no. LOL

As for the trailer, I'll reserve actual judgment until I've seen it but while I like Tool, I would consider it a mistake to use their music in the trailer. If anything it should have orchestral adventure music, or at the very least period music from the 40s to set the mood.

Eh. We'll see how it works next week, I guess.

Tool's one of my favorite bands, so this is awesome. I found it intereseting though; 46&2 was featured in the trailer for Iron Man 2 that leaked a few years back out of Comic-Con. Just past the 3 minute mark...

I wonder if they're trying to save money by recycling their royalty agreements...
Anyway, just about a month to go. I cannot wait :)
