 Yesterday, news broke  that writer and director Shane Black was to helm the Predator reboot for Fox. Today Shane, as well as  John McTiernan, sat down with Collider to discuss the new Predator film. "As far as Fred and I are concerned anyway,” said Shane. “Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?” The director explained that he's not fond of reboots but can  “really get behind inventive sequels”, further explaining that “the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”  This makes things even more interesting. Now the real question here is, will the film take place after the third Predator film or after the events of Alien vs Predator: Requiem? What do you guys think?

The 3 Predator films are within their own continuity. The AvP films are separate. As well as the Alien films. I hope bringing Shane on board it will be cool.

thank god! just expand it! predators was good but it didnt tread new ground apart from making it on a ''different planet'', the planet in AVPR was good, I would like to see more of that or something

Well that's good news. So I guess it picks off where Predators left off...or another Predator hunting on Earth again. Maybe there will be a Arnold or Danny Glover cameo.

Very much a big fan of the Preditor franchise, as it was stated earlier, the other properties are separate. With that said, I fugkin hated iron man 3.

Also fun fact, Black did some re-writes on the script and he over saw the production of the first Predator film. So it's not like he's not familiar with the franchise in the first place;)

Robert Rodriguez confirmed that his Predators film in 2010 wiped Predator 2 and both AvP films out of existence.

So the timeline is:

1987: Predator
2010: Predators

That means Black's film must lye between either those two films or after Predators. What pisses me off is the fact they probably won't get Adrien Brody back. I really wanted to see his continued story.

That's a relief. I actually like "Predators", thought the characters and story were good. I kind of hope they take off from where the last film left off. Probably won't, but that's what I'd like.

Predator - a Yautja hunts a special forces elite squad in Central America, seemingly at random.
Predator 2 - another Yaujta comes to Los Angelas ten years later during a massive heat/crime wave to pit the drug lords and police against each other, but is secretly being hunted by a special unit, aware of its exploits.
Predators - eight "predators" are kidnapped from Earth and dropped onto a Yautja planet to be hunted as game.

Predator 2 was super cheesy, but I hope Shane Black takes after it and makes a bit more complicated story.
