Michael B Jordan Talks FANTASTIC FOUR; Comments On The Criticisms

With the recent cast revelation of Fox's Fantastic Four reboot, a lot of people were less than happy with both the casting of Michael B Jordan as Johnny Storm and the cast overall. The actor has a few words to say on the matter. Hit the jump to hear what he had to say!

"It was expected. You kinda know going into it that people are used to seeing something one way, it's a continuity thing more than anything. People don't like change too much. But annoyed? Eh, you just kinda accept it, it is what it is. You can't make everybody happy. You just gotta accept that and know. I'm an actor, I have to do my job. I'm going to do my job the best I can and the way I've been doing it my entire life, my entire career. I grew up a comic book guy, I read comic books as a kid growing up, and the Fantastic Four/Human Torch is one of my favorite characters so I'm going to give it my everything. I can't wait. I don't really let it bother me at all. I just want to go into it and do the best job I can. We'll see what happens."

On why he decided to take on the role of Johnny Storm,

"The Human Torch is, 'yknow, that's fun. That's going to be a good time…To play a superhero? That's dreams coming true. It's not going to be hard. It's going to be fun to kind of show a side of me that I don't really get to show on screen, to be a little bit lighter, funnier, just more personality. It's going to be fun."

He's a good actor imo. I just don't like the direction Fox is taking this franchise but we'll see in 2015. This might underperform or even flop. They have chosen a bad date to release the film.

Why do people insinuate that anyone who doesn't like the casting of MBJ as Johnny is racist? I don't get it all.

@McNy it's not that. It's those who don't like the race change lol.

Honestly, I don't see the value in changing the character's race, but this is hardly the biggest problem with this film.

Yawn! Movie will flop. I want to see a true Fantastic Four movie - and not a Chronicle 2 movie.

IMO this casting felt like change for the sake of change. I like the guy but I don't have a good feeling about this flick at all.

Jordan and Mara are the best part of the movie and the only thing that has me even slightly interested in it.

Right? The "In before the rascists" comments are bringing up the subject of race itself. That being said, I am starting to regain some faith in this movie

Changing Johnny's race literally changes nothing about the character other than his skin color. So I've never had a problem with this casting.

If anything Michael B. Jordan has is talent, skill and range. You can barely tell if you watch Chronicle and That Awkward Moment then switch over to Fruitvale Station.

@nach
here's what to expect so far:
-it will be a fantastic four adaptation.
-either johnny, sue, or both will be adopted

that's it. that's all we know. and according to many on this website, that's enough to deem it a sack of shit.

Before I hated the idea of his casting of torch. But after seeing the rest of the cast, I could careless anymore since now I dont care about the whole movie and rather go watch the roger corman 4!

Hey McNyango, you should edit the article. A good article has the first letter of every word in the headline capitalized, and duplicate words should be avoided.

@ McNy

Although he's a good actor, I think making Johnny Storm black is a dumb idea. But you can't deny that these MBJ related articles can have some f@cked up comments regarding race. I usually try to stay away from these threads.

Anyone who blindy calls a person a racist for not liking Michael B. Jordan's casting, is immature and ignorant. I don't like his casting because I believe comic book movies SHOULD BE movies about the comic books. I think that Johnny Storm should be white because his character is right. At no point did I, or any other critic, say that a white man is more superior to a black man to play the part. I simply don't like his casting. I actually don't like any of the casting. Miles Teller? Really? He is supposed to be a super-smart scientist?
Oh don't hate me for that! I'm not racist against white guys if I offended anyone. Grow up.

This is a talented cast, no doubt But that's not the problem imo. My problem is not who they cast in the film but what the casting tells us about the film itself. It seems like Fox is doing a CW tween twilight-esque FF film based off the Ultimate FF which wasn't any good imo.

How is someone racist when they simply want Human Torch/Johnny Storm to stay white with blonde hair, and blue eyes? Why change? He talks about people don't like change, but why is the change being made? For what reason? They haven't given a reason... he talks about Human Torch being one of his favorite characters since he was little, how the hell does he see himself as that character? I don't see myself being a good Blade, Luke Cage, Black Panther, Bishop, Falcon, War Machine, John Stewart, etc. How does MBJ see himself as Johnny?

I think he's a terrific actor, I loved him in Chronicle, and I think he has potential to do great things in movies, I would be so excited if this was another original superhero film like Chronicle, and he had the same exact powers as the Human Torch, so how does that make me racist?

It's like if Man of Steel casted Will Smith to be Superman, or Jamie Foxx was casted as Bruce Wayne instead of Ben Affleck, there is no reason they would be casted other than to make them black, they are terrible castings, even if they act exactly how the character is in the comics, they just don't visually resemble the character, and that is huge deal, that's what no one understands. What if they made Hulk Blue, or Godzilla Red? It would make no sense, so why doesn't it matter here? Johnny Storm has Blonde hair.... period.
