Before he announced his interest in the role of Dr. Strange, Patrick Dempsey did his homework.

"A friend and Co-worker suggested the idea a few years ago, I took a look at the material he gave me (especially the Lee / Ditko stuff) and right away thought, this would be great. This should be done." says Dempsey.

Due to a series of  extremely fortunate events, We recently had an opportunity to sit down with Patrick Dempsey and ask him about his desire to play  Dr Strange. (Marvel feature film slated for 2014.) Before he announced his interest in the role of Dr. Strange, Patrick Dempsey did his homework.

"A friend and Co-worker suggested the idea a few years ago, I took a look at the material he gave me (especially the Lee / Ditko stuff) and right away thought, this would be great. This should be done." says Dempsey.

"Its  his journey from this  arrogant, selfish yet gifted surgeon  ( a man of science and medicine) to "The Master of the Mystic Arts",  that inspires me."

It  inspired him to reach out to a small group of fanboys and comic book professionals to gain insight into all things Strange. It was that insight and inspiration that led him to announce his interest in the role.

"Strange is a lessor known, unusual superhero. The magical supernatural aspects of the character sends him tripping through time, multiple  universes and dimensions as he protects the human race. I think it would be a blast to do it."

 It's unclear what Marvel/Disney is planning for the "Sorcerer Supreme", or who is on the short list to direct,  but the lack luster reviews for  Conan and  Cowboys and Aliens  requires one to question the recent decision to green light the Donnelly/ Oppenhimer feature length script. We're excited about Doc making it to the big screen but We agree with Mr. Dempsey;
The dark, edgy,  metaphysical tales of Dr. Strange are also well suited for cable. Every  character in the marvel universe could enter a Strange storyline  offering an opportunity to introduce or reboot characters without committing to the cost of a feature film.

Whatever Marvel decides Let's hope they go with Dempsey.
He's a strong actor with the years of knowledge and experience to prove it. Currently, he is  one of the most well known and highest paid leading men in Television. It's a no- brainer. His youthful adult  appeal  gives him an ageless quality. He looks the part.  He is Steven Strange. His voice is familiar and dramatic but distinctively American offering a refreshing alternative to the cliché British/English accent. (That  seems to exit the mouth of every actor who plays a role that requires uttering an incantation or a spell.) I mean let's face it,  Steven Strange is  from Pennsylvania not Portsmouth for gods sake.  Speaking with Dempsey,  its clear that he would bring a  quality  necessary for the success of motion pictures in this genre, HEART! A level of caring and commitment to getting it right.  He wants this role. The fact that he's played a doctor on a hit Disney TV show?  Plus!  The fact that the audience for that hit show is a completely different demographic also a plus! He brings a fresh audience to the world of comics.

We'd like to hear what you think.  Is Dempsey the man for the job? Would you watch a Marvel produced Dr Strange cable series.

Share your opinions, we'll post the results.

He's a solid actor, and he's been in the game a lot longer than most people realize...

...i wouldn't hate if he was cast.

Depp is not going to take a massive pay cut to do Dr. Strange (well, maybe if Tim Burton were the director but then Tim would also need the massive pay cut). David Tennant would be a terrible Dr. Strange, he looks like a kid and Strange is older. Dempsey is interested and he looks enough like Strange and while I have seen some people suggest Ed Norton, the problem with Norton is he doesn't promote his movies which tends to suppress the box office which would kill a sequel. What Dr. Strange really needs is a really good director who knows the character.
