Unlike GAME OF THRONES, THE WALKING DEAD TV Show Will Not Spoil The Books

While HBO's Game of Thrones may spoil the ending of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire fantasy series, AMC's The Walking Dead will not spoil the end of Robert Kirkman's comic book series. Here's what Kirkman had to say.

Given the writing pace of author George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones executive producers have confirmed that the HBO drama will spoil the ending of Martin's fantasy series before Martin released the final novel.  Of course, anyone who has read the books and is fan of the show knows that the series has omitted certain storylines and changed a few supporting characters so the show can't possibly spoil the entire totality of sprawling book series.  However, it stands to reason that the ultimate fate of fan favorite characters such as Jon Snow (Kit Harrington), Arya (Maisie Williams) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) will indeed be revealed on the HBO television adaptation before it's ever revealed A Dream of Spring - the reported seventh and final volume of A Song of Ice and Fire. Bear in mind, the sixth volume, The Winds of Winter, has yet to be released and the HBO drama is already set to depict events from the fifth volume, A Dance of Dragons, when season  5 starts on April 12.

With that recent revelation, Comicbook.com asked Robert Kirkman if the AMC adaptation of his Walking Dead comic book would ever spoil unpublished ideas and storylines from his comic.  Said Kirkman, "I think it would be impossible for any way that the show would end to spoil the comic. I that think they are both very separate.  I have certain endings in mind for the comic book. I have different events that I want to get to and if I haven't gotten to them yet when the show is wrapping up I'm just not going to tell anyone in the writers' room what my idea is for how I would wrap up the comic book. If they come up with anything similar, I'll be like, 'I don't like that, let's not do that,' and try to steer them away from it. So I think it'll be pretty easy to keep them separate but that is something that has occurred to me, that I have thought about."

This season has been great besides the Beth crap (The Flash, I'm praying for you). As for this, well, I'm not too worried about the ending at the moment. The writers are so keen on reaching Negan that they'll surpass the GN by the end of S6; what then? Rinse and repeat (3-6). I mean damn, they wasted so much time trying to expand the hunters and introduce more Woodbury/Governor's that even Kirkman could bare writing [in the comics] that they're likely to do it again for another 5 seasons.

Comics are OK. Jesus is basically Daryl though, and Rick kinda sucks now.

The show sucked in seasons 3-4...killing Lori satisfied the fans of the show, but it ruined the payoff of the prison arc that you got with the comic.

At the end of the prison arc, Rock loses everything. He loses his wife, daughter, and like half his friends. In the show, by the time the prison falls Rick has already lost everything. I hate that they ruined that aspect. The show will always be a watered down version of something vastly superior. I'm glad they're sticking close to the comics... If they did that from the beginning, the show would be up there with Game of Thrones. Instead, it will always be inferior...

I'm with Desstrokke.

What the [frick] are you guys smoking? This season has had some GENIUS episodes.

Some of the best in the entire season.

And MUCH better than The Flash. I like The Flash, but TWD, GoT and Better Call Saul are in a TOTAL different league.

This season only goes to prove that they've completely run out of ideas, forcing them to resort to killing people off every few episodes in a desperate attempt to make it look like the plot is moving forward, when in reality it and the character development have been at a dead standstill. If they can't come up with anything then they need to go ahead and bring it to a close.

@LubedUp they're currently right outside of Washington D.C., not Atlanta. When's the last time you watched the show? Or is that just a complaint you read online and repeated here?

Yeah...isn't it obvious that The Walking Dead wouldn't "spoil" the comics? In order to spoil something from another medium, the show would actually have to follow the source material at least somewhat.

Game of Thrones is pretty much a direct adaptation of the books, while The Walking Dead pretty much just used some general concepts, locations, and character names from the comics...that's it.

I just got done reading issue #112 of the Walking Dead. Rick is a fùcking dumbass. I actually said that out loud at Starbucks with everyone turning around and then laughing when I showed them what I was reading. LMAO!

Love Walking Dead! Watercooler Mondays all about the Dead. See the haters only post here and have never actually met one. I would imagine a very peculiar type who does not enjoy such a great show.

lol people thinkning the walking dead is a directional mess, are the same people who watch superhero movies which are, at the very base, the same thing over and over again. oh and GoT is better? a show where....
Winter has been coming since the first episode....
The dragon lady raised dragons for 4 seasons and talking about how she'll use them and then locks them in a F**king basement.....
TWD kills off people and its pointless but GoT does it and its the most amazing show ever?....
There 900000 storylines but only about 3 likable characters which makes watching a 60 min episode actually amusing for about 10 minutes....
Oh and the story is going somewhere in GoT? A show where they just kill the person on the throne right after another bc their all spoiled brats who wanna be in charge?...
Dragon lady hasnt even made it to the main land in 4 seasons.....
Im not trying to insult GoT, i can watch the show, im just pulling off the blinders to ppl who think its the holy grail of TV when in reality its very average.
But thats what you get when you show an unnecessary amount of boobs in your first season to gain viewers

...For me TWD is the best show on television with GOT a close second. Wish they would bring Tron cartoon back as that would be my third. Black Sails by the way has really improved and at the top of my TV list. Cant wait for Fear The Walking Dead!
