JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS AND MONSTERS Season 2 Confirmed

JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS AND MONSTERS Season 2 Confirmed

Ahead of the July release of Justice League: Gods and Monsters, Machinima is releasing a prequel web series in June. Apparently, confidence is high as a second season has already been greenlit for 2016.

By MarkJulian - May 05, 2015 08:05 AM EST

This June, Machinima and WB Animation will release a radical new project from animation master Bruce Timm, which takes Wonder Woman, Batman and Superman on a much darker path.  Apparently Machinima and WB think the first season of Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles will be a hit as a second season has already been greenlit for 2016.

Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles serves as a prequel to the direct-to-video feature  that will be released on July 28, 2015.

The news of a second season should bring a sigh of relief for WB Animation fans that felt burned by the early cancelations of Green Lantern: TAS and Young Justice.

Alan Burnett penned the script for Gods and Monsters, which is  directed bySam Liu.  Timm serves as excecutive producer, alongisde Sam Register.

From visionary producer and animator Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series), Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles turns the DC Universe upside-down. In this dark, alternate world, telling the good guys from the bad guys is never easy: Superman is not the son of Jor-El, he’s the son of General Zod; Wonder Woman is not from peaceful Themyscira, but rather the warring nation of Ares; and Batman is more vampire-bat than man…and he’s not Bruce Wayne. It is unclear if our greatest heroes are here to protect us…or to rule us. With Season 1 set to launch in June, Machinima, Blue Ribbon Content and DC Entertainment have already begun development on Season 2, a 10-episode follow-up to the initial limited series.

That's good though, they can then jump right in to the story in the DTV without spending too much time on their background

If it indeed turns out to be awesome, maybe they can bring back Young Justice as a web series? One can hope...

I would much rather see a continuation of the JLU series.

I don't see this darker Justice League being as well received. Even the movie the series is based on doesn't look all that great.

Oh what?! I thought this was going to be a movie not a webseries. Either way I'm excited

Lame. I'd rather have the REAL trinity. Especially a Timm version!

I was reading about this, Starman and Dial H for Hero and sadly it sounds like the new Static show was canceled. Because if I'm not mistaken Machinima was the one making it. Steel sounds like he will be interesting. The same thing with Captain Marvel and this universe's Green Lantern. I hope Martian Manhunter will join this too. I know in the past Timm said he's a fan of J'onn's and I'd enjoy seeing what he does with him in this world.

Wrong @fettastic. I'm not much of a Bruce Timm fan, but I love this concept because DC needs some fresh stories that dont involve Superman getting an extra/unnecessary superpower, or the joker being "immortal".

We haven't even gotten that confirmation. So, still in development sounds more certain.

meh, id rather see a good DC Animated film again, its been a while since they had a hit with the animations.
I actually just started watching Young Justice on Netflix and I think its awesome. the Batman vs Robin and Throne of Atlantic movies were a bit off the mark for me. I think they did well for a while I liked Justice League Doom, Crisis on Two Earths, the Wonder Woman, Superman Doomsday and some others. This looks ok for other people, but I'd rather see the heroes the way they were intended.

Everything about this looks like [frick]ing shit, and the fact of the matter is that EVERYONE would be in universal agreement on that fact if not for Bruce Timm's involvement.

Well, Timm's & Sam Liu's involvement certainly boosted my interest, but speak for yourself. I've accepted the fact that DC Animated have dropped doing somewhat direct adaptations. So let me enjoy the more original stuff that's not connected to the bastardized "New 52" DCAU.
This looks and sounds awesome beyond my partiality.

"That "alternate universe in which the Justice League are bad guys" has been milked to [frick]ing death."

Has it though? Like. At all?

A lot of negative comments on this one. Granted, I skipped the trailer, but I think it sounds interesting, and certainly different. I can't wait.

I simply cannot wait to feast my eyes. This series will bring back so much childhood memories of JL animated series which got me into comics.

I really think this looks just awesome! Yes, we had a few "Dark Justice League" stories over the years, and I would love to see more classic JL stories by Timm.

But if I could choose between an animated feature about a different, dark Justice League in an interesting Elseworlds scenario and flawed stories featuring the classic characters being portrayed in ways I don't care about (JL WAR, Throne of Atlantis, all the Damian Wayne stuff etc) I'd take the Elsworlds story any day.

I grew up on on both the Superman, Batman, JL, and JLU animated series. Don't get me wrong they were great but they were for kids and kids don't care for how things are animated. Quite honestly, Bruce Timm's art is pretty bad. It's unique to him but it's not all that good. I would have been fine with this animation had it not been destroyed by the Emmy award winning animation of Young Justice.
