THE DARK TOWER Calls To Nikolaj Arcel

THE DARK TOWER Calls To Nikolaj Arcel

Plans for a live-action film adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower novel series refuse to die. Find out which up-and-coming director Sony may potentially pass the reigns to. Someone make this damn movie already!

Nikolaj Arcel, director of foreign stand-out film A Royal Affair, is very close to signing on to direct and rewrite the script for Sony's adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.  If Arcel does board the project, perhaps he'll cast his Royal Affair stars Mads Mikkelsen and and Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander?  It's also likely that Arcel will rewrite the latest draft of the script which was last completed by Jeff Pinkner and Akiva Goldsman.  Though Arcel's arrival would mean Ron Howard's departure, Sony is still moving forward with the latter's plan to tell the complete novel eries through both multiple films and a TV series.

We'll have more details as the story develops. Maybe we'll finally get some official casting news and a release date for the long gestating project?

The Dark Tower has the potential to be one of the greatest cinematic sagas of all time. Like, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings level of awesome. Fans of the books will know what I'm talking about.

Mads Mikkelsen was always my choice for Roland. Great actor. Here's hoping at least that part comes to be.

When I read this I thought it was casting news for Nikolaj Coster Waldau and freaked out a bit.

Anyways, I'm not a Stephen King fan, but the Dark Tower comics are so rich and extremely dark,I think it could work as a low budget hard R rating film.

I actually had the same problem. Couldn't get through the first book at all. But then I gave it another shot and the rest of the series is very clever.

hugh jackman looks like a young clint eastwood and would be perfect for the role. and i still don't think movies are the right medium for the dark tower series. even if they made a movie for each book, it would fall way short because there is just too much story. they'd be better off just making it a 7 season series on hbo. and please don't change anything...like under the dome...

@dirkage87 No. Love Jackman, but no. He's not right for this role. He's too polished. You need raw.

And I loved the first few books but tapered off in the series.

I'd LOVE, however, if The Talisman and Black House were made

Never read any of the novels, but I do know there is a lot of mythology behind the series much like Lord Of The Rings.

They sound really interesting.

This is wonderful news - that I've been hearing about since like 2008.

I would love to see this franchise get made. Tons of actors could take these roles, no point in thinking there's only one good option for any of these characters.

The Gunslinger, The Drawing of the 3/Wastelands, Wolves of the Callah, then The Dark Tower makes an easy 4-parter translation to the screen.

Prequel TV Show (Netflix! or HBO level only!) goes into young Roland, and you get the amazing story from Wizard and Glass and the comics.

My ideal Dark Tower cast (characters from the first couple of films/seasons. It would take way too much time to Fancast the whole series):
Roland- Javier Bardem
Man in Black- Sharlto Copley
Eddie- Aaron Paul
Susannah- Zoe Saldana

My favorite book series of all time! This needs to happen! Make it so.

I always thought this would do well as a hardcore animation, like Heavy Metal. Or maybe nowadays as a high end CG film like Avatar. I think that some of the imagery necessary to properly portray the message and ambiance scenes would have to be animated one way or another. But something really gritty and dark like Heavy Metal would really nail at least how I felt while reading these books.

@pathogen

I completely agree about the Talisman/BH. In a way its kinda like the story of a parallel Jake.

Its funny all the things they said were impossible about realizing the DT on film the marvel universe has pretty much done. multiple films strung together? connected tv shows?

3 movies for the main timeline and a tv series for the wizard and glass/keyhole, done. I'm glad Howard is out.
All I can think of is him voiceovering the entire series like AD. which is actually pretty funny but unnecessary.

Javier Bardem couldn't look any less like Roland if he had an asshole in the middle of his forehead

@Deschain99 : No. Keep that asshole fAR Far away from the DT series! Roland is NOT from Kentucky! And Roland is definetely not an asshole Hollywould-if-you-could TV actor. Hes a decent TV actor. He is just no way approptiate to play rOLAND THE LAST gUNSLINGER. Sry lost my internet and very hard to type.
