"DC You" Trailer Asks If You're Ready For Change

Post Darkseid War, it's a brand new day in the DCU or make that "DC You". Superman is powerless and on the run without his Clark Kent secret identity to protect him. Batman is missing and Commissioner Gordon is wearing a GCPD issued mecha Batsuit. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

DC Comics is previewing the all new "DC You-niverse" in a new promotional trailer that runs down all of the new titles. Black Canary goes punk rock. Starfire gets her first solo series. Superman is without his powers, has his secret identity outed and trekking across the country. Batman is missing and a villainous family with ties to Batman Beyond is backing a GCPD robo-Batman with Commissioner Gordon in the suit. So many changes are coming to the DCU post Darkseid War. And with the fallout from the epic battle between the Anti-Monitor and Darkseid being the restoration of the multiverse, it's anyone's guess as to which Earth each story is taking place on.

The new DC Universe represents a bold new direction from DC Entertainment, featuring a more expansive and modern line of comic books that still honors our rich legacy of storytelling. Whether you've been a DC fan your whole life, or are just getting started with the world of comics, there's a story just for you! And it all starts right here, right now, with DC You!

Can't wait to read Batman. I'm nervous and excited all at once. Snyder hasn't let me down yet.

The last time they rebooted everything after a major battle against Darkseid I stopped buying comics altogether. Comics are really suffering from what I call "reboot fatigue" these days. People lose interest in a particular line or company and they say: "Hey! We're changing everything! All-new!" Except "All-new!" really just means "The way it was before, with superficial changes." I'm a big fan of DC and Marvel in their TV and movies, but I just can't get interested in the comics themselves anymore.

Didn't they already try that approach for Superman with JMS' stupid idea that completely blew up in their face?

Not afraid of the change - but please remember, not ALL change is good. We don't HAVE to like it just because it's new. It may be awesome. But it also might be the biggest pile of crap, meant solely to scarf up a quick buck.
Have to wait and see.
But I'm certainly not going to passively endorse it just to prove I'm not "afraid."

I'm all for this, as long as the make it an iconic and memorable "Superman Moment" when Clark's powers are restored.

It's the 30th anniversary of COIE. We've known for at least 2 years DC had something up their sleeves. Everything will go back to normal in a few months and then there'll will be a new costume tweak for everyone to get upset about all over again.

I'm completely fine with DC's new direction in turns of focusing on story over continuity.

Hopefully it's rewarded in making good stories.

ABSOLUTELY!

Here's something fans need to think about.

Think about your favorite comic book runs.

Mine is Morrison's JLA.

Then ask yourself this. Did you ever care once about what's happening in the runs universe?

Did you care what Ultimate Iron Man has been doing all this time while reading Ultimate Spider-Man? Did you care what Flash has been doing all this time while reading Snyder's Batman? Did you care what the Avengers are doing during Miller's Daredevil? Did you care what Wonder Woman was doing during Johns's Green Lantern?

All those answers are likely no.

So why care now?

As long as it means way less crossovers this time around I'm so ready for this run.

The amount of crossovers made some of the graphic novel's downright unreadable because the story was either wrapped up in another series volume or two different volumes bounced back and forth between each other. Justice League Dark had this problem a lot.

@ThePowerCosmic

Not really.

I mean let's think of it like this. Same you are a new fan of a character and want to read some comics on the character.

You will likely be given runs to read about the character.

Let's look at Daredevil. Someone would recommend Miller's run, Bendis's run, & Waid's run.

Now it's highly doubtful you are gonna read comics that were going on at the same time as those runs.

Instead, you are focused on the run.

That's what this is. Focus on crafting a great run of a character and not focus on what else is going on in the universe of the character you know?

Like with Marvel's Infinity, since I like that event and did read it, I don't remember the Daredevil comics or the Hulk comics mentioning that event.

That's no different than this.

The important thing is to make sure the continuity of the run isn't ignored.

I feel like I haven't read a DC or Marvel comic in ages. I've been going a different route lately. I'm liking different stories, and not having to trip off of reboots.

I stopped buying comics recently because of all the reboots and unnecessary changes being made.....I tried to hang in there with the new 52 from DC but they are destroying my favorite hero of all time, Superman. The lack of creative writing within DC has changed an iconic character into nothing more than just a regular ol guy. I think this reflects a lot around us in our society and the times we're living in. 40, 50 yrs ago, people believed so much more in the concept of an average regular guy who was able to magically shed that identity and reveal himself as a hero in a god-like manner. The world was different then and people looked to Superman as an ideal of truth, hope, and the inner strength and greatness of what anyone was able to potentially be. Now there is Batman who has grown in popularity because of heartache, loss, and pain......and he represents vigilantism to the 10th degree. Although he is only human, most Bat fans need a god.....so Batman is written as if he is a god. Not a god of hope or promise, but a god of darkness and vengeance.....

NI have to leave DC......thanks for the movies. I'm still waiting to see an epic DCU movie but the comics have made a turn for the worse. Thumbs down DC.......... BIG thumbs down!!

Combat, I can pretty much guarantee this whole thing is just a set up for the next big event DC has planned. I'm not expecting any big paradigm shifts from either of the Big 2's events this summer.

Im for substance over continuity. but without continuity you can't care as much for the characters. Not sure about this new direction, but I guess we will see how it turns out
