Stephen Amell Talks ARROW Season 4

Arrow star Stephen Amell talks season 4 of The CW superhero drama. "[Olive and Felicity] are away and I believe they are still away when [Season 4] get(s) going again." What do you want to see when the show returns in October?

arrow season 4
After general high-approval and praise for the first two seasons of Arrow, the third season can be summed up as divisive at best.  Some fans loved the new dynamic while others felt the show lost momentum and focus as it put greater emphasis on the relationship between Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards).  Speaking to TV Junkies about upcoming season of Arrow, star Stephen Amell had some cryptic yet interesting responses.

"Well they’ve been away," said Amell, declining to name specifically where Oliver and Felicity are (though fans speculate they were driving to Coast City, home of Green Lantern Hal Jordan in the Season 3 finale).  "They are away and I believe they are still away when we get going again."  As for whether the show will buck comic book lore and put Oliver and Felicity together permanently (in the comics, Green Arrow and Black Canary are destined to be together), Amell had another cryptic answer.  "Well you never know, but I think if anyone has a decent chance it’s Oliver and Felicity. Time will tell."

Amell also clarified his recent comments that Season 4 opens with a time-skip.  What he meant was that, like every previous season of Arrow, the real-world passage of time will be reflected in the show.  "When I said there was a time jump people were like, ‘Oh my God really?’ I didn’t think that was very spoilery because the show has always followed chronologically when we air. Whenever we’ve taken a break and go off the air from May till October, when we leave it’s May and when we come back it’s October."

And having received the first few scripts of Arrow season 4, there's one thing in particular that Amell is looking forward to watching/filming.  "It still feels like our show but there are different elements that I think people are going to enjoy.  We get to see some characters interact that weren’t always the closest of friends or interacting on a regular basis which is neat when you’re doing new stuff in the fourth season of a show."

Arrow season 4 returns to CW airwaves on Wednesday, October 4, at 8PM.

Nickk, you're wrong about Jai. The guy is not a great actor, but he did a solid job in that film.

Nickk - 7/4/2015, 7:19 AM
@ComicsDoneRight if you seen the first film you will know jai is not right for that role that was bullshit acting he had no chemistry with emalia at all his jokes was not funny he was rather dull he felt like a douchebag more then a savior.

@Nickk for some reason hollywood keeps putting him in big franchise films, Divergent, Die Hard, and they believe he has some kind of "it" factor. He and Sam worthington are the same: two Australian actors that Hollywood tries to make stars, bit who lack charisma or acting ability. Every film he's in, bombs or just isn't good. Kind of sad.

MICHAEL BIEHN ISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS KYLE REESE. He did an amazing job with that role. Kyle Reese isn't supposed to be some jacked and buff guy. He's a slender and scrappy soldier who's paranoid, frantic and who fights till his dieing breath

I really think that's overreacting a bit. He wasn't terrible in the movie, miscast in the role possibly, but he did try hard. He was good for action, and the jokes were meh, but he wasn't there for the sake of jokes. I think he's better than anton yelchon was in salvation at least, which isn't much but is something considering yelchon is a better actor

@MrPagBrewster

I don't think so. He's meant to play someone on arrow that's emotionally detached for the most part, but throughout each season he's getting better with interacting. Let's see how he does by the end and in movies then judge. Personally, I think TMNT2 will be a jumping off point for him to get movies. Plus, he has a great attitude about everything, just look at his twitter

I think Stephen Amells acting is fine in Arrow. His acting isn't the problem, it's the shows writing. Season 1 and 2 were really great. I might get some hate for this but I prefer Oliver's personality in the show than his personality in the comics (pre new 52.) I haven't had the chance to read any of the new Green Arrow comics from the new 52. Amells acting might have been inconsistent in season 3 because the shows writers were all over place with Oliver's story arcs. The same thing can be said about the supporting cast. I will admit that I wasn't too thrilled about where the show went in this past season but I'm not going to give up on it either. I know a lot of people are saying that the Flash has become far superior in comparison to Arrow but keep in mind that the Flash has only finished its first season. Arrows first season was really well done too. Let's hope that they keep the Flash fresh and exciting. Since the Flash uses time travel as a main factor in their overall story telling it is possible that the show could become convoluted as a result. I really don't want that to happen and I'm also hoping that the show runners and writers of Arrow can bring the Oliver and company back on course and give us a really stellar fourth season.

This is the show that basically kick started comic book TV. Even with it's missteps, overall, it's still the best CB series on TV. All due respect to The Flash, which is right up there with it too!

@Nickk - I agree with you about Jai, I just wasn't a fan of his in Terminator. In the past his fellow co-star Jason Clarke was rumored to be Slade Wilson, but nothing came of that. I think he though would have been a better Captain Boomarang than Jai, both are Australian and in my opinion is the better actor.

"What do you want to see when the show returns in October?"

I want to see less trolls show up that don't watch Arrow and just comment on here on Wed. nights like their opinion matters.

You know who you are.

@dannramm113

You are correct about the way Amell is portraying Ollie/The Arrow. Wait for this season where he shouldn't be emotionally detached anymore and then say he's a bad actor or not because he's a very lively person during his Q&As and everything and actually acts more like Ollie in the comics outside of what Arrow's mostly been like so far.

@TMcFarlaneFan: If you hate the show so much, why did you even click on thiis story. We like it. I like both Arrow and The Flash. It may not be the most comic accurate, but it's still enjoyable. Why do you have to rip on someone who likes something you don't? Does it benefit you any? If we are misguided, we'll learn it eventually. We don't need someone to get all pissed at us because we are sick of people coming on here and trashing us because we like something they don't. That's all MisterSuperior said. But you're acting like you stole his girlfriend or killed his dad. Seriously. If you hate something, avoid it, and everything associated with it. It's common sense.

SisterSunday52
SisterSunday52 - 7/4/2015, 11:15 AM
@TMcFarlaneFan: They are talking about Season 3, and even hardcore Arrow fans were let down by this season. You are talking about the series as a whole, and using criticisms from one season to make your agruement. I didn't like Season 3 as much as I did the second season. But It wasn't terrible, and the show isn't terrible because of one season. We'll see going forward if Season 2 was its peak or not, but I'm not writing it off just because it was uneven this last season and I'm definitely not writing it off because you say I should.

@Bigred20: Anarky isn't a villain. He's more of an antihero. He was only made a villain in the cancelled Beware the Batman. But he's more like Red Hood, except he doesn't hack people up or gun them down. I can't remember if he killed anyone. At least, not Lonnie that I know of. As a matter of fact, he was originally supposed to replace Jason Todd as Robin.

@FanofMrSunday58 Actually the show has been downright silly from the pilot on. Remember Oliver's Dad, Robert, shooting himself in the head just hours into their situation after the shipwreck? Whomever wrote that is one dumb son of a bitch who should be banned from writing. They should've been sent somewhere for a mental evaluation.

His reasoning was: The supplies would last longer w/out him. How would he know they wouldn't be found quickly? How would he know the boat would not drift to an area were food could be found, which it did?

And if the idiot was going to do that, if he was just that damn stupid, he could've at least quietly went into the water while Oliver was asleep instead of doing it in front of him.

Immediately afterward, Oliver starts killing people who's names were in a book just because Robert said so. So how f-ing dumb is he supposed to be? Then Oliver becomes a serial killer throughout season 1. And now the show is about a serial killer who wants to be a damn hero.

There have been liars and outright fools try to argue that stuff away just by calling myself and others names for bringing it up. But what they can't do and they never even try to do is actually offer any counter point. And if they did I would blow them away with the facts.

Nothing I said about the history of the show is mere opinion. Those things occurred on the show. For whatever reason, people let that incredibly stupid writing pass for awhile and excused and apologized for it until finally the Laurel becomes Black Canary and Oliver survives impalement and a 600-1200 ft drop to solid rock made the shit pile that is Arrow finally become too much to bear.

I remember Arrow's most loyal and unintelligent apologist claiming that later Oliver's Wile E Coyote moment would be explained away with the lazarus pit. Well, it wasn't.

One can like bad TV or movies. Roger Corman. V, both series. Galactica 1980. The Fall Guy. The entire Steven Seagal filmography. Happy Days. Enterprise. Hee Haw. Kiss Phantom Of The Park. The Star Wars Holiday Special. Or Arrow. But they should never actually claim the stuff is good. Those things should be delegated to the 'guilty pleasures' file.

@AOKRCEO I agree with you. Even about The Flash. It nosedived with 'All Star Team Up'. It had some bright spots here and there after and maybe 2 good episodes and a great finale. But the bad episodes reminded us of just how quickly a TV series can turn bad. I've heard Heroes went from great to bad in a hurry.

As for your Arrow points, that show is full of the worst ideas on TV. And Arrow is the lowest rated and most poorly received 3 and now 4 year comic book TV show in television history.

It was the only comic book TV show not recognized by the 2015 People's Choice Awards. Awards picked by us, the people.

I'm afraid The Flash is going to sink in terms of quality in season 2. 1st reason to worry, it's Berlanti. And he's the guy who created the Supergirl pilot as well as Arrow. 2nd reason is the last several episodes of season 1. Further reason to worry is Iris now being a part of Star Labs team. A love interest, Olivia, is on the way for Joe. And Patty Spivot will be a love interest for Barry. A love interest for Iris will be showing up around episode 7.

That's alot of love story stuff going down. And so far, Berlanti and his writers have yet to pull a single love story off on any of his shows.

On Jai Courtney: I haven't seen him in anything else but Divergent and Insurgent, so I can't really judge his hero roles. But judging from the Terminator trailer, he doesn't seem to be very good at playing the hero. But he is absolutely amazing in the villain role, and he seems to absolutely relish it. I was watching the scene in Insurgent where he is raiding one of the factions, and is seeking out divergents, and he looked to be having the time of his life being the bad guy. I was like "I can't wait to see him as Captain Boomerang."
