BATMAN v SUPERMAN Star Henry Cavill Answers The Lois Lane Or WONDER WOMAN Question

With DC Comics seemingly committed to a Superman and Wonder Woman relationship in the comics, will that super-pairing carry over to the DCEU? Superman actor Henry Cavill provides a sensible answer that raises two questions.

Who does Superman truly belong with - the Amazonian goddess Wonder Woman or intrepid Daily Planet reporter, Lois Lane? Before answering that question, Henry Cavill first commented on his excitement to see Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. "Strong women are nothing new for the comic book world. I'm glad they are being represented a bit more in film and on TV. Wonder Woman has been around forever, she is an incredibly strong character. She can go toe-to-toe with Superman sometimes."

The conversation then turned to whether he thinks Wonder Woman is a better pairing for Superman than Lois Lane? "This is a very long discussion because there are a lot of questions to be asked and answered. I mean who is better for a super-powered alien, a human or a goddess? Yes, the goddess can do all the normal things, which we would think are normal in a relationship, and not have any fear of Superman. But you also need to have that baseline of humanity, which Lois provides. And literally keeps his feet on the ground, keeps him down to earth. So that's more of a debate than an answer."

Superman chooses Wonder WOman over Lois Lane

In many comic book runs and graphic novels, Batman is depicted as a paranoid loner who prepares for all possible scenarios - even one where he has to take down his fellow Justice League members. For Superman, his obvious weapon is kryptonite. But for Wonder Woman, Batman often has no weapon of choice as she has virtually no weaknesses (see Geoff Johns New 52 Justice League run). In the graphic novel, Kingdom Come, one of Batman's greatest fears was that the union between Wonder Woman and Superman would result in a child with all of their powers and without the Kryptonian weakness to kyptonite. If you go by that school of thought and share Batman's fear, you'd most likely want Superman to end up with Lois Lane.

A Superman and Lois Lane paring also has its own issues. Would they be able to even have children? Would Lois Lane be able to survive carrying a super-powered child in her womb? Would Lois even be able to survive the process of making a baby? These are all questions that have raged on in the DC Comics fandom for decades but now we'll potentially get to see how the DCEU explores these divisive Superman issues.

Someone asked Cavill what he ate for lunch & he quoted the exact same thing a third time.
The guy really liked saying that over & over.

With two films, DC's introducing more recognizable comic females than Marvel has in 12 films: Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Katanna, Enchantress, Amanda Waller, and Lois Lane, with appearances from Plastique and Kahina. I can't wait to see Mera in the next couple of years, too!

Marvel, step it up!

And don't even get me started on Fox with their backseat-Storm and weepy willow-Rogue.

Ehhh...both chicks are still scrawny to each is own.

Can Lois Lane have superman's baby the answer is: Yes. One untill that toddler gets sunlight then he'll start to feel his power grow. But the question that should be asked is CAN Lois Lane capture contain his super sperm without shooting out of her head.

His super bulge allows for him to be able to have both ladies and more. Lois will forget the whole thing happened during the afterglow kiss he can literally come and go without ever getting caught.

WonderWoman with Superman or Batman is just wrong for so many reasons. She can stand on her own, no need to have her play musical chairs with the boys. Lois Lane and Superman makes more sense the starcrossed lover is more interesting than a God like figure dating another god like figure.

I don't think @Battabing is joking. Let's look at the female characters that Marvel has given us so far:

Pepper Potts - the damsel in distress for a majority of her films/saves the day once.
Betty Ross - the damsel in distress/tag-along
Black Widow - debut of FIRST female Marvel superhero/steals the show in Iron Man 2.
Jane Foster - the damsel in distress
Darcy Lewis - the annoying comic relief obsessing over hot lead character
Sif - a backseat hero who never shines bright enough
Frigga - barely gets a chance to shine until second movie where she is killed off
Peggy Carter - tag-along who ends up shining as a cameo junky and leads her own show
Maria Hill - a tag-along who is just another cameo junky
Maya Hansen - sort of a different twist, but still a damsel in distress
Gamora - the SECOND fully fleshed out female superhero
Nebula - one of the best Marvel female characters on-screen (can't wait to see more)
Scarlet Witch - the THIRD Marvel superhero debuts and is represented well (IMO)
Hope van Dyne - more a tag-along than damsel, fans anxiously await her debut as WASP

So, you see, a lot of Marvel's female characters on-screen are sort of playing the same role. Let's look at what DC's done so far (based on casting)

Lois Lane - a different take on the damsel in distress/does more than most though
Martha Kent - a voice of love and reason for the hero
Faora-Ul - like Nebula, she steals the show and this is the FIRST in the DCEU films
Wonder Woman - the FIRST DC female superhero in the second DCEU movie/marketed almost as much as S&B/gets her own film four movies into the DCEU/is said to play a critical bridging role into setting up the Justice League
Mercy Graves - don't know much, but will probably just be another henchmen/tag-along
Harley Quinn - in the forefront of the SS film and promos and most likely will be the highlight of the film from the looks of everything
Enchantress - not sure about her role, whether villain or hero or anti-hero but she is indeed powerful and she's been showcased enough to know that her story is intrical to the SS movie
Amanda Waller - a powerful female figure in an authoritative position, sort of a more shady, female version of Nick Fury
Katana - gets some screen time in trailer, may not steal the show, but the promise of getting some decent action from her is there.

Not many females reduced to being nothing more than mere damsels in distress in the DCEU films it seems. That's only three movies I have listed there and Marvel is 12 films in and will be starting their Phase THREE next year. They don't even get a female superhero film until 2018/19 (forgot if Spider-Man pushed back months or a year)

Yeah and that's just the movies on tv we have.

Supergirl getting a tv show, could be good or bad but has promise.

iZombie a DC/Vertigo series features a very cool female zombie lead.

Vixen CW Seed series, a woman of color getting a chance to shine in the spotlight.

Hmm, he makes a great point on both sides... It really is a complicated debate.

Both make sense in a way, but which is better for Superman as a character?

I liked her a lot, but if you didn't like it her, it just further proves my point that many are not seeing Marvel put enough effort and character in their female characters.

@MPambassador I think you got a pretty broad/wrong definition of damsel in distress. And isn't it a little ridiculous to talk about the strength of the female characters in DC movies that have not come out yet? Especially after you admit that the one central female character to appear thus far was a "damsel in distress?"

@MPambassador,

How many times did Gamora have to get rescued in GOTG?
The world's deadliest assassin, and she gets taken down by a human. Ronan even mocked that in the movie.

And I hate how Marvel makes their women ball-busting bitches only to have them do a 180 by the end of the movie and have them all googly-eyed for the male lead. They did it with Gamora and now they've done it with Wasp.

It's 2015, not 1989.

Lois Lane is played by a beatifull woman with great acting skills. Wonder Woman is played by a toothpick with questionable acting skills. Amy Adams breaks Gadot in half, not that she needed to try. Pretty easy
