The Russos Tease Filming Iconic CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Moment

Captain America: Civil War from Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting featured several standout moment over the course of the miniseries but there's one particular moment that leaps out to comic book readers. And the directors of the film adaptation just teased filming it. Gasp!

Attending Wizard World New Orleans, Joe and Anthony Russo were joined on stage by Chris Evans, Frank Grillo, Hayley Atwell, Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie.  When the fan Q&A portion of the panel began, one audience member asked if there was one particular scene that each cast member would like to film for their character.  Grillo took the first shot at the question, stating"I'd like to kill Captain America," which drew cheers and laughs from the audience who know exactly what he's referencing from the comic book.  However, bigger cheers erupted when Joe Russo added, "We may or may not have filmed that scene, though."

Do you think the death of Captain America will actually happen in Civil War?  Will Avengers: Infinity War feature Bucky Barnes picking up the red, white and blue shield and leading the charge? Unfortunately, we'll have to wait till May 6, 2016 for answers.

wow! That's some massive spoiler right there!anyhow, Im super excited for Civil War, eventhough I'm a BIG DC fan, I couldn't wait to watch this. The thing that I'm most excited about is the inclusion of Spiderman in the MCU. But you know, it's a ballsy move for Marvel if they were able to pull this thing off, killing one of their Major players. It's like killing Superman you know. so props for the Russo bros. They're doing this thing right!

I may or may not believe them, then.

I'm calling it right now! They're gonna kill Cap in Civil War before bringing him back with the Gauntlet in Infinity War. Then they'll destroy the Gauntlet out of necessity, thus causing him to disappear for good (though not before forgiving Tony for being a dick), tears and feels ensue.

Haha i don't think Joe would give that away so casually if it was true. To agree with some of the previous comments, if they do kill Steve in Civil War it could make for an epic comeback in Infinity War. I get seriously excited just thinking about the potential for that moment.

Plus they've kind of been teasing Cap's ultimate sacrifice in the climax of both of his solo films.

Okay, sounds good to me, oh wait, you're not finished?

For me they should wipe lots of the original avengers out by the time we reach Infinity War I. They can then make their grand return in Infinity War II to save the day.

we can obviously have dead Cap, Tony on the run after his time working with the Government ends badly, Hulk in space after Ragnarok and Thor sealed away somewhere due to the same.

this would leave room for Captain Bucky, Falcon, War Machine, Antman, Cap Marvel and the gang to fail miserably against Thanos before the big four come back as the mad titan reaches Earth.

Ha! I don't want Cap to die for good either, but they can't have Chris around forever. Maybe they'll James Bond it, but I'm not certain that's the road they intend to go down. Besides, it'll add some nice drama to both CW and IW. His death would be memorable, it would have people talking for years.

If they do pull some Infinity Gauntlet shenanigans, I hope it means we get Quicksilver back. And Steve Rogers as well. Even if it's original "skinny Steve" and he passes on the Captain America mantle to ride his motorcycle off into the sunset, I want Steve to survive.

But most of all, I just want Evans, Downey, Hemsworth, and the Phase 1 gang to stick around. They don't have to headline their own movies, or even feature heavily in the Avengers, but just to have them pop up now and again and remain a part of the universe would be fine with me. Maybe a Captain America film with Bucky and Falcon sharing the mantle while Steve is retired. A Valkyrie movie with Thor on the throne of Asgard. That sort of thing.

It would be stupid / dick move on the Russo bros part to tease the Death of Cap scene and then to not go through with it.

Hopefully the death scene holds some emotional weight to it upon viewing.
Right now I don't see it having much impact as he'll inevitably be brought back in Infinity War at some point. Marvel have a history with retconing presumed deaths.

Look, I understand these guys wanting a break from these characters. A lot of them have been doing like 4 movies over the last 5 years. But at the same time, as an actor, you have to realize how rare a role like this is. And as a movie studio, you have to appreciate how valuable these actors are in defining their roles.

I don't think the MCU is going to recast any major character. If someone just wants out of their contract, they can move on to new characters. No character is irreplaceable, and James Bonding isn't something to be done lightly. The Bond films are almost purely episodic and there is a meta-weirdness each time a new Bond is cast that would risk undermining the whole point of double-digit movie continuity. It already has made the Incredible Hulk into a black sheep and Iron Man 2 felt the need to lampshade Rhodey's recasting. The whole point of the MCU is for people to go: "oh shit, it's that guy!". You don't want people to say: "wait... is that guy supposed to be that other guy?"

Marvel's got the money to keep these phase 1 actors happy with cameos and occasional appearances, while still giving them scheduling time to do other things. That's where we should be going. Not contract-ending deaths and/or recasts.

@Spock0Clock

I suppose it would be rather cool to allow the characters to age as the universe progresses. Still, as I said the death of Captain America would probably become an incredibly iconic moment in film. This huge, ten year epic comes to a close with the heroic sacrifice of one of the major players of this expansive universe. I'd prefer if he lived, but sometimes we have to set aside our fanboyism and look at the bigger picture. Killing Cap would be a great way to punctuate the main story arc of the MCU.

If they said this on stage, this is probably BS.

I stand by that they will not kill Cap in Civil War. But he might be put into a coma. And then they can make jokes about him having another long nap in Infinity War.

it's Probably the scene in Cvil War where Cap and Iron man Meet up to fight their simple best friend 1 on 1 , i'd love to see that scene , then they can hand shake and go back to beef

Most of the big baddies have been "killed" by the infinity stones. That means they are able to return from the stones themselves. Do not doubt that you will see a few characters return during infinity war.

As for Cap, Evans said he is retiring from acting, but would only continue to do Marvel movies because of the love he has for the character. It's changed his life and he honestly appreciates all the good he has done being "Cap" to kids. If they kill him off, I can see him returning at another point in time.

I think it would be dumb to kill of both Thor and Cap before Infinity War. Thor should die in Ragnarok and Cap should get arrested in CW.
