John Boyega Says STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII Is Darker, Finn Is More Physical

Finn's stormtrooper training proved no match for Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) in their lightsaber duel. Though Finn was the worse for wear at the end of The Force Awakens, he'll apparently have an even greater physical role in Episode VIII. He also touches on the sequel's tone.

Though Finn brought a lot of physicality to Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the temporary holder of Luke's lightsaber, actor John Boyega has teased that his character will have an even greater physical presence in Episode VIII. The 23-year-old, English actor also stated that the next film will be darker.  Said Boyega, "[The script is] great. Much darker, but we’re very excited... My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more."

The Force Awakens didn't exactly illustrate that Finn was Force sensitive so it doesn't appear that he's walking the same path as Rey towards becoming a Jedi.  As the conflict with the First Order and the Knights of Ren continues to play out in Episode VIII, what role do you think Finn will play?

Star Wars: Episode VIII arrives in North American theaters on May 26, 2017.  Rian Johnson takes over from J.J. Abrams.

When he says darker does that mean Lando Calrissian is going to make an appearance?

He was pretty physical in the first film, so that sounds interesting.

***SPOILERS****
Oh, who am I kidding you all saw it.

This alleviates my concerns that the wound he suffered would immobilize him somehow. That would've been an interesting plot, but it's probably just gonna leave a huge scar.

So if The Force Awakens was a remake of A New Hope, then Episode VII will be a remake of Empire Strikes, so:

-Finn-Poe Dameron romance
-Rey will be carrying Luke all around
-Kylo Ren will be Rey's Father
-Finn will ended up frozen in carbonite
-TR-8R will return, as an administrator of a mining planet

Boyega was awesome as Finn. Really glad that he will be more physical in Ep.VII. Looking forward to see him kick some ass.

LMAO!

Anyways TFA was a rehash of New Hope and a dash of Empire and ROTJ!

I am sure the next movie will be original.

Also, loving that the movie will have a darker tone. It's kind of expected after what happened.

Is it just me or are people using it the word "darker" too often now. It has become really annoying.

Well I am hardcore fan and I personally did not like the movie......I suspect after all the dust settles many people will start saying bad things about this movie.......it happened with The Phantom M. People were praising the crap out of it and afterwards it left a bad taste in their mouth.

Me personally? No the people who went and saw the movie.....they praised it and afterwards they turned on the movie so fast.

Personally I did not like Phantom Menace.....to only thing I liked about that movie was the third act......well actually Darth Maul! Darth Maul was a badass and went out like a bitch! But I guess I liked that character so much because he have never really seen any other Siths till than.

@JoeMomma29 No, they won't. Most people who hated PM thought it was shit right away. It doesn't take a month for hype to cool and people to realize a bad movie is just that. Face it, TFA is a good movie even if it's not at all perfect.

Yes, TPM is a misfire on many levels. I knew something was wrong, literally, five minutes into the movie. I remember the day because I was so excited, then confused and disappointed.

But in my experience, I haven't witnessed anyone loving the film, then now hating it. I don't even know how one would gauge such a specific thing on a large scale.

I said it before, but it would actually be interesting if Finn was the first non-Force sensitive Jedi. That way he keeps using a lightsaber, but it limits the number of force sensitive people.

@Zer0squad

I am referring to the SW fan base.......they were praising the movie! There are tons of videos of fans going nuts over the movie......and then the fallout.

But with this movie it is a little different due to most of the critics or should I say the majority of critics loved the movie. But if you really look at the movie it is lazy and it destroys the core characters that we have grown to love. Luke was made into a hermit/coward but in empire and ROTJ he was brave and faced Vader and the Emperor to bring balance to the force. Leia and Han were in love and meant to be together.

The one seen that sums it up to me is when Han died.....Chewie, Han, Luke, and Leia were all close beyond belief. After Han died Chewie just walks past Leia and Leia goes to hug Rey......Ugh you would expect to have Chewi and Leia have a very intimate moment.

One thing for sure if you express that you do not like this movie and state the reasons why.......you get attacked! I mean it is worse than the Marvel and DC battle or worse than a XBOX vs PlayStation wars........

Why are you here repeating what you say you heard about the movie? Go see it for yourself. Your comments sound like someone trying to smart troll.

@JoeMomma29 I disagree. I think the movie left a lot out in the way of explanations, probably intentionally, that would explain a lot of those concerns. I mean, all we got were vague descriptions of what happened with Kylo and Luke and how that caused Han and Leia to drift apart, but think about it, that is some real life shit right there. It had to be something extremely traumatic to completely break Luke's spirit and break up Han and Leia. But all we got was, "oh yeah, Ben Solo went a little crazy, killed some apprentice jedi and then Luke ran away." So in that sense, yes, it is unfortunate for TFA that that specific event was just sort of glossed over to the degree that it was, but I'm sure that will probably feature heavily in the next movie.

I do agree about Chewie and Leia at the end though. But, let's face it, Leia was always going to be a weak spot of this movie because of Carrie Fisher.
