When you're able to lock down a big star like Tom Cruise, you want to make sure you have prime real estate for your release. Case in point, Universal's reboot of The Mummy will now be released on June 9,2017 instead of March 24, 2017. Cruise will join Kingsman: The Secret Service breakout star Sofia Boutella (she's also starring in Star Trek Beyond) in the film. No details are currently known about the film expect that Boutella is playing the Mummy and Cruise will play an ex-Navy Seal. Alex Kurtzman directs from a script penned by Jon Spaights.
With the Mummy shifting back, Summer 2017 is now filled with tentpoles, including World War Z 2, Kingsman 2, Wonder Woman, Uncharted, Spider-Man, War of the Planet of the Apes, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and Jumanji.
Power Rangers, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Kong: Skull Island, Wolverine, Ghost in the Shell and Fast 8 premiere in the Spring. Thor: Ragnarok closes out Marvel's year in November. Star Wars: Episode VIII was just recently moved to December.
