Transformers Producer Don Murphy has posted the following on his personal site:

What happens next? Certainly not a reboot. We haven't lost the Transformers. They didn't grow up or become expensive like Toby Maguire. I don't know what happens next. I'm pretty sure there will be a second trilogy. I am pretty sure it will kick ass. And I am pretty sure some of you will hate it because it wasn't all bots."

With Shia Labeouf and Michael Bay stating that Dark of the Moon was their last Transformers movie, how do you think the series will continue? Could there possibly be a time skip with Jason Statham, playing an older Sam Witwicky?

Could Statham be an older Sam Witwicky?

Transformers is an entertainment franchise. It began with the Hasbro Transformers toy line, centered on two factions of warring alien robots which are called the Autobots and the Decepticons. In its 26-year history, the franchise has expanded to encompass comic books, animation, video games and films. Transformers: Dark of the Moon has earned an estimated $204,421,287 in North America, as of July 6, 2011, and $281,657,127 in other territories, as of July 6, 2011, for a worldwide total of $486,078,414. On its first weekend worldwide it made $382.4 million, marking the second-largest opening of all time behind that of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince ($394.0 million) and the largest for Paramount/Dreamworks. With another breaking record, it made the largest worldwide debut at IMAX venues, with $23.2 million. With $418.0 million by Monday, it crossed the $400-million-mark worldwide in 6 days, matching the record first set by Spider-Man 3 to reach the amount the fastest.

BOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Sorry, but as much as I enjoyed DOTM, I think it wrapped things up nicely. A second trilogy? Pleeasseee. Or at least do a reboot or War For Cybetron-style prequel.

We don't need Sam Witwicky. Make Transformers about the Transformers, not the humans that know them.

their is absolutely no freakin way LaBeouf would grow up and become Jason Statham. can you imagine Statham screaming "BUMBLEBEE!!!" or "NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!" ? I can't. I'm fine with bringing in Statham, just don't make him an older same. make him a new character.

@kurekurcubic: yes it should have. then we wouldn't have all these stupid eight foot adds throughout the whole theater and having to have some excuse as to why Daniel Radliffe is relevant.

@Krekurcubic I'm not a HP fan, but of course it could continue with more than a trilogy because it was based on seven novels (and eight movies are being made out of it). the Transformers movies aren't based on novels, unless you want one movie per each comic book or whatever.

Reboot is the only way to make a watchable Transformers movie.

I don't mind them continuing it as a franchise, just with new characters. And this time make them good movies.

Reboot or not - I hope in the next film the robots aren't treated like they're just props. They suppose to be characters - not sure Bay ever understood that.

I wonder if the producers of these films ever stop to wonder how much they would actually make if the films were considered *good*? I mean, if you have a property that can make a mint even when they get ravaged by critics and moviegoers alike, can you imagine how much they would bring in if they were liked on the level of Nolan's Batman?

I'm not even that big of a fan of Nolan and The Dark Knight, but I'll still pay to see the next Bat flick, while you can't get me near a theater for a Bay Transformers.

@Soul. No, to Bay they were just sticks that blew up or farted, or pissed, or humped as the scene required

maybe transformers 4 could be a prequel trilogy set on cybertron.

jj abrams for director.

it'll be a prequel it can't be a continuation.

how else are they gonna do any of the characters they've killed off.

one word
UNICRON!!!
have it take place years after part 3. after the decepticons were defeated, say the bodies werelauched into space. 40-50 years later they are discovered by Unicron and transforms Megatron into Galvatron along with the other decepticons. bring in Hot Rod, Kup, etc.
throw in dinobots found near some fossils. that opens it up for space travel.

Yes "No Reboot" I mean not to sound like a selfish prick but like I said this franchise has already done to much and to reboot these movies that have such a large scale, would basically be "ludicris"...look al I'm saying is I would love to walk into a theater like in ten or twenty years to see a TF4 trailer because it would be new and interesting and because it would further the story not slow it down, for a generation that has already gotten use to it.
