Campbell confirms new Evil Dead movie.

Seems this one is no longer a rumor. Confirming via Twitter, Campbell has put all the gossip and hearsay to rest.

You can see the actual Tweet on your left. Speaking back in April when this was still in the very earliest of stages, Campbell had the following to say regarding the script:

We are remaking Evil Dead. The script is awesome. I will be one of the producers and possibly play the milk man.In all honesty, we would all love to make another Evil Dead movie. When that will happen? Who can say – we’re all working on other jobs right now. We’re not trying to dodge anybody’s questions, there just isn’t that much to talk about. The remake’s gonna kick ass – you have my word.

Well, 3 months later, looks like this project is a go!

The Evil Dead is a 1981 horror film written and directed by Sam Raimi, starring Bruce Campbell, Ellen Sandweiss, and Betsy Baker. The film is a story of five college students vacationing in an isolated cabin in a wooded area. Their vacation becomes gruesome when they find an audiotape that releases evil spirits.

The film was extremely controversial for its graphic terror, violence, and gore, being initially turned down by almost all U.S. film distributors until a European company finally bought it in the Cannes Film Festival marketplace. The film premiered in Michigan on October 15, 1981 and was finally given a limited release in early 1983. The film was a moderate success at the box office, grossing a total of $2,400,000 in the U.S upon its initial release, against a budget of probably no more than $400,000. Despite getting mixed reviews by critics at the time, it has since developed a cult following. The film has spawned two sequels, Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, and a stage musical; work on a script for a further film has started.

Not what I wanted to hear, as I have little interest in a new Ash, or an Ash-less Evil Dead, but I don't begrudge Bruce Campbell from making money off of the property as a producer... And it's better news than hearing that Michael Bay's production company is remaking it without the involvement of Raimi or Campbell, for instance.

This sucks, why remake it? Unless they remake it with Campbell staring it wont be worth anything! Bring on Evil Dead 4!

I was rather excited to hear about a sequel to the Evil Dead, but a remake? No. What's the point? Oh, you can have a lot fancier effects, but that destroys what made the original film such a classic.

Ok, first of all Bruce Campbell/ Sam Raimi has been teasing with a sequel since AOD came out. I was excited to see a sequel to Army of Darkness about 10 years ago, now I could care less. Bruce wouldn't be able to pull it off anyways, unless they do some sorta "Old Man Logan" version where Ash is old but still kicks deadite ass. Re-make might work with the right actor to play Ash.

Something tells me, the remake is going to tone down the tree raping scene.

I have a great idea! Why doesn't Hollywood come out with a new idea for a change instead of remaking old classics?
