Blade Runner

While on a press tour to promote Cowboys & Aliens [click here to listen to my review of that movie], Harrison Ford had the following to say about the reported prequel to Blade Runner in development at Alcorn Entertainment.

If they go into it with the ambition and some very good idea of how to bring something new to it, maybe it’ll be successful.....The ambition every time that I’ve been involved in a sequel of a film or a movie that had a number of iterations, I always felt that we were responsible for bringing something new to the characters and to the experience of the audience. If they go into it with the ambition and some very good idea of how to bring something new to it, maybe it’ll be successful.

Surprisingly, it seems that Ford is not totally against this idea. Do you think a prequel to Blade Runner could work?

Blade Runner

Blade Runner is a 1982 American science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, and Sean Young. The screenplay, written by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, is loosely based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick.

Is it too soon to start a "Nathan Fillion as Deckard" petition?

More like Blade Walker, with a colostomy bag.

I have nothing against prequels or sequels or revamps, what i dread is the lazy "remake", complete with the "reimagining" for modern audiences things.

Blade Runner takes place in 2019, the prequel should take place in..2012, when Los Angeles is overrun with androids and flying cars.

It is unnecessary to reboot or make a prequel to it, but I say the same about the movie "The Thing"

I'd like to see a revisiting of the Blade Runner world. I don't know about including Decker though. Why not do a story involving other characters in the same world? Also it needs Ridley Scott involved.

I love the idea, if as Ford mentions, they do it with the kind of integrity and ambition of making a great sci-fi movie.

It's been a long time since we've had an ambitious sci-fi flick in the scope of Blade Runner. good ones anyway.

Nomis: Me too, I had the Blade Runner soundtrack in vinyl, and then years later in CD. Vangelis music is out of this world!

I also listened to "1492" for years, divine assault of music.

I'd rather have a prequel or something from the same universe than a reboot.

ex: Prometheus vs the new Total Recall

Only if they let Danger do the soundtrack I will watch a prequel or reboot.

Like the idea of Nathan Fillion in the Blade Runner UNIVERSE, but don't know about him portraying Deckard or it being a reboot. That's a tough call, reboot vs. prequel vs. sequel... maybe a sequel set even further into the future, with Fillion as a new Blade Runner on a case with connections to the first film?

Please - do NOT TOUCH this film! It will only be made to screw money out of its (fanatical) fanbase. I know it will stink up the screen with the current standard of cinematic writing. And visually it will be another compendium of good/to crappy CG images dependent upon who they contact out the work to - ie: the lowest bidder. Sean Young has proved herself to be a total nutter (witness her attempt to get the role of Catwoman in Batman Returns), and Ford hasn't put his heart into a role in decades - Indy 4 sucked *ss, and was only made for money - what 'new' thing did Ford bring to that? I must have missed something. Also, if they are replicants, why would they have aged like humans? Why not colorize Citizen Kane instead? Or remake Some Like it Hot with Paris Hilton and Ben Afflec?
