Emma Stone On Her Amazing Spider-Man Kiss

Actress Emma Stone briefly discusses how Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker lock lips and how that differs from a Mary Jane Watson smooch.

Speaking to the Chicago Sun-Times, Emma Stone had the following to say:

On whether we'll see a repeat of the famous upside-down kiss....
Why would we do an upside-down kiss? I’m not Mary Jane. I’m Gwen Stacy in the Spider-Man film.

“New girl. New kiss,” says Stone, adding, “I wanted to do different kisses to make our mark.”

On her overall thoughts about filming the movie, which wrapped in May....
“Of course, it was amazing to do the big action superhero movie,” Stone says. “But to me, this ‘Spider-Man’ actually feels very down to earth. It’s a love story for my character, a simple love story told in the midst of this big, big world.”

On whether she had many stunts to perform in the movie
“It wasn’t too high-flying for me, so you could say I’m the grounding influence.”

On how she will handle her budding stardom
““Am I allowed to have an attitude now?” she jokes. “Did I get permission to act like an a--hole?

“I think it’s pretty solid to act like a human being,” she says. “Yes, it’s an incredibly exciting time. I’m part of a few movies I’m so excited about, which is fantastic. These are stories I was dying to tell, which is pretty rare, because there is so much junk out there.

“So, I’m going to have to work on getting an attitude — although when people say I haven’t changed, it means so much to me and my mother.”

Emma Stone is A-class, material all the way, no?

Really happy about this bit of casting and glad they aren't trying to copy Rami's series too much. Hope the kiss is just as inventive though? It was quite an iconic moment for that film, would be great if they could one-up it.

With those two pictures juxtaposed like that, it really sinks home how eerily she resembles Romita's Gwen.

Funny. I always thought the whole kissing upside down was invented by the Black Cat.

Emma will prove to be an excellent choice as Gwen Stacy. I never minded Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson.

I am hoping for a more action packed movie. The Lizard is the make or break to the degree of how good this movie looks or becomes.

Emma is gorgeous and will bring Gwen Stacy to life the right way. So glad she is in this film. Hope she's in at least two before she's killed at the hands of the notorious Green Goblin. Always preferred Gwen to Mary Jane. Don't like Mj that much. Kirsten "Vampire Teeth" Dunst ruined it for me, destroyed the character.

ComicFan69 there's no such thing a girl being too skiny ;)

Moonwalker [frick] YOU! MJ is MUCH more interesting then Gwen, hell the only think that made her intersting was that she died.

She was just a cry baby.

Hell even Stan Lee once interview that he couldn't make Gwen as interesting as MJ.

And Dunst did a great job.

Meh, I don't see hwat all the fuss is about over her. There are way prettier actresses out there that could have been Gwen who don't have cement mixer voices.

Oh well, she's better than Dunst as Mary Jane that's for sure.

QUOTE under Emma Stone's picture

[ "The Amazing Spider-Man, also known as The Amazing Spider-Man 3D, is an upcoming American superhero film based on the comic book of the same name that is currently in post-production". ]

I thought this Phony Sony extravaganza was based on the over rated "Ultimate" series that depicts Peter Parker in high school.

The modern Spidey from "The Amazing Spiderman" comic book series moved on from around the mid sixties when Peter graduated high school, went to college and entered into adulthood leaving SOME, NOT ALL of those nerdy and geeky traits behind.

The facts remain that this is how the “Amazing Spiderman” comic book title has progressed to this day and that is the kind of movie I would like to see.

We have a mature age GROWN UP Peter Parker, a great cast of characters, well written realistic mature stories and sometimes with a dark tinge, great artwork and of course Spider-MAN’S great sense of humor and sarcastic wit.

Why is Phony Sony still meandering around in a vacuum with the high school nerd concept?

I have no doubt this film will do well at the box office. I really like Andrew Garfield as an actor, but I have given up supporting counterfeit superhero films by Fox Abattoirs and Phony Sony. There really is a BIG difference between a faithful authentic and genuine adaptation compared to a cash cow adaptation.

@MagneticEye64- You are a fan of the 90's animated series aren't you. And Raimi's idea to skim over highschool and immediately set him in the phony college existence for 3 films. Shame on you for wanting to invalidate Peter's history. This movie so far has shown little if any Ultimate aspects. There must be something in the water or whatever your drinking.

Several enduring characters have originated from Peter's highschool, including Liz, who married Harry Osborne, and Flash-the current Venom, as well as Jessica Jones-who's with Luke Cage. Funny how his class spawned more important students than just Peter himself isn't it?

MagneticEye - 8/19/2011, 5:45 AM
@ ScionStorm

You make many assumptions about me. No I'm not really a fan of the 90's animated series. I'm just someone who has the entire "Amazing Spiderman" catalog and it's a book I still subscribe to and enjoy reading.

In fact those early stories of Peter in High School are some of my favorite, but if you read my post in context I was referring to the way that book has progressed since 1966 portraying a Peter Parker in adulthood.

LOL, I really don't see how wanting a movie that reflects the way the book has been for the last 45 years invalidating Peter's history at all.

Like I said previously, this film will probably do well, but I would much rather see a faithful and genuine adaptation by MARVEL STUDIOS.

BTW, I'm not a fan of Sam Raimi's version of the web slinger either and yes there is definitely something in the water or whatever else I'm drinking. :-)

@MagneticEye64- Cool. Still think an origin story of Peter deserves more elaborate representation oh his roots than chasing a school bus, eating in a cafeteria, getting into a fight, and then graduating with the only two notable characters around being Flash(who then disappears from the story) and MJ who became a stand-in for Liz Allen, Gwen Stacy and Herself. I don't see Ultimate in it at all. Aside from the basketball reference. MaryJane is not even in it. Nor is the Daily Bugle. Just because Ultimate started back in highschool does not mean that every interpretation that starts in highschoool is adapted from Ultimate.

I think there's a little something in my water too. ;P
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 8/19/2011, 12:33 PM
@MagneticEye64- I still want to see him grow into that adult character from the comics. I don't want to him jump into it where he hasn't earned that maturity on screen. In highschool in this movie. Maybe he starts college in the second.

Fair enough points. I see where you are coming from. Hopefully the Spiderman movie franchise will endure for many years and we'll finally see a mature age Peter on the cinema screen. :-)
