Captain America: The First Avenger is a 2011 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Captain America. It is the fifth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film was directed by Joe Johnston, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and stars Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke, and Stanley Tucci. The film tells the story of Steve Rogers, a sickly man from Brooklyn who is transformed into super soldier Captain America to aid in the war effort. Captain America must stop Red Skull, Adolf Hitler's ruthless head of weaponry, and the leader of a mysterious organization that intends to use a tesseract energy-source for world domination.

Captain America: The First Avenger began as a concept in 1997, and was scheduled to be distributed by Artisan Entertainment. However, a lawsuit, not settled until September 2003, disrupted the project. After Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch, the project was set up at Paramount Pictures. Directors Jon Favreau and Louis Leterrier were interested in directing the project before Johnston was approached in 2008. The principal characters were cast between March and June 2010. Production of Captain America: The First Avenger began in June 2010, and filming took place in London, Manchester and Liverpool in the United Kingdom, and Los Angeles in the United States. The film was converted to 3D in post-production.

Captain America: The First Avenger premiered in Hollywood on July 19, 2011, and was released in the United States on July 22, 2011. The film became a critical and financial success and has grossed $365.6 million worldwide as of October 2011. The Blu-ray and DVD are scheduled to be released on October 25, 2011.

I enjoyed the movie, though I didnt like the costume at first but seeing his new costume on the Avengers, it made me love the original 40's inspired costume.

Off topic, but finally saw the deleted scene on Cap's DVD called "There's a place for you here", which is basically an extended version of Fury & Steve's meeting at the end of the movie .
To be honest, I'm really glad, that Joe & Joss (since he wrote the dialogue & directed the scene) decided to cut it. It felt
a little bit forced & weak,
though it explained some
details & etc. Here, take a look:
Fury: "At ease, soldier!"
Steve: "Who are you?"
Fury: "Colonel Nick Fury,
Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. You
would've known us as a
Strategic Scientific Reserve.
Steve: "Where am I?"
Fury: "46th & Broadway. I'm sorry about that little show back there, but we didn't know what your mental state might be, so we thought, it best to break it to you slowly."
Steve: "Break what?!"
Fury: "You've been asleep, Cap. For almost 70 years."
Steve: "How am I alive?"
Fury: "Well, to be honest with you, we don't really know. My docs say it was suspended animation . Could be doctor Erskine's formula, the extreme cold , I don't know."
Steve: "What about the war?! Did we win?!"
Fury : "Hell yes, unconditional surrender! Taking down Hydra was a big part of that! But the world hasn't changed
all that much, there's still a lot of work to be done. A soldier's work ."
Fury: "The world can still use a man like you, Cap!"
*Steve & Fury shake hands*
Fury: "There's a place here, for you. Sure you're alright?!"
Steve: "Yeah, yeah... I just... I just had a date."

You know, after the millionth time of watching the Avengers trailer..i was thinking about something. Anyone remember the Avengers Disassembled arc? Remember how wanda was able to use magic to fool everyone into thinking that the Kree were attacking? Then they realized that it was just an illusion all due to magic? Well Loki is the god of mischief, magic...so maybe the alien army that is at his disposal is just an illusion due to his "mysterious staff with the blue light"...just a thought..maybe it'll be the skrull or kree, but only as an illusion due to loki needing to keep them preoccupied until he does what he needs to do to take over the world. Just a thought...someone get at me, let me know what you think.

@therealhumantorch i agree with you man that might be somthing that loki could pull off but didnt i read that the first avenger film is only the step up for somthing bigger? Plus if it was all an illusion i think alot of fan boys would be pissed. Its like one of those movies where at the end it was all a dream.

Not necessarily, that could be an illusion based off the real kree or skrulls and at the end either faction exacts revenge on loki for either letting their existence known and now a target potentially of the avengers should they try to invade earth. You know what I mean? But knowing Whedon, it will be straight up and not some illusion..he likes to keep us on our toes and piss us off a bit..but not like that. Was just thinking that though.

Video Quality = 4.5 / 5

Captain America leaps onto Blu-ray with a gorgeous 1080p transfer. The image appears rather subdued by design; fine detail is extensive but not always redly evident, and colors are dull throughout. That doesn't make this any less of a looker. Paramount's transfer is extraordinarily stable, crisp, and yields breathtaking clarity and cleanliness.

Detailing is astounding in spots; complex facial textures are evident in both the brightest shots and the lowest-light conditions alike, but the picture's sepia-toned shots do lend a rather pasty look to faces where shadowy corners occasionally struggle with smooth color transition. Nevertheless, textures on military helmets, Captain America's complex suit, concrete and brick façades, and the like are all outstanding. The digital photography occasionally produces minor banding, but the image is otherwise pristine and free of any perceptible digital anomalies. Blacks are sturdy and inky, yielding richly-texrtured dark scenes and never crushing out details. Some viewers may be turned off by the absence of "eye candy" visuals; the color palette in particular appears always drained and favoring a dark gray, black, blue, or sepia-toned structure.

There's no denying that this is another first-rate Blu-ray transfer from Paramount.

Audio Quality = 4.5 / 5

Captain America blasts onto Blu-ray with a well-rounded DTS-HD MA 7.1 lossless soundtrack. This is a balanced but still exciting track that handles every extreme thrown its way with ease. Whether a chilled Arctic wind that blows through the listening area at film's start or minor ambience like Brooklyn traffic, buzzing insects, or the rumble of a prop plane as heard inside the cabin, the track never fails to surround the listener with mood- and scene-critical atmospherics. At the same time, there's no shortage of high-energy sound, either. The action proves totally immersive; gunfire -- from conventional and fictitious energy weapons alike -- erupts from every corner of the listening area during shootouts.

Explosions are hefty and built through strong, but not excessive, bass. The surround speakers carry much of the action, helping to immerse the audience in the film's most dangerous scenes.

Music is strong, balanced, spacious, and incredibly clear. It's carried by the front but, like everything else, enjoys some measure of surround support. Dialogue remains grounded up the middle in every scene; it's clear and never lost through any of the supporting elements, heavy or otherwise. It's not quite on the level of spectacular, but this is pretty much everything an action-oriented, fresh-from-theaters soundtrack should be.

Why didn't WB do the same conversion to Green Lantern that Paramount did with Cap?

Intruder..yet again i agree with you. Avengers Disassembled was a masterpiece, I liked House of M more than Civil War for some reason. I however did love the art in Civil War, McNiven is an awesome artist..i hope that i one day can be half as good as he is.
