In a recent interview with EW Michael Shannon had the following to say in regards to his General Zod costumes:

Was that fun to step out of Van Alden’s {his Boardwalk Empire character} shoes and into General Zod’s for an out-and-out villainous role?
General Zod is, I think, a bit stronger than Van Alden. General Zod would not go to the speakeasy and have a shot. General Zod will stop at nothing to get the job done. General Zod doesn’t have a supervisor.

Were you a fan of the Superman comics, or Terence Stamp’s Zod in Superman II?
I don’t read the comic book, although when I got the job, they sent me a giant DC Comics book that weighs about a ton. It’s got the whole history of DC in it. It’s fascinating, actually. I looked at it with my daughter. She’s really fascinated by it.

I remember Terence Stamp doing it. He was phenomenal. I have to try and figure out a way to do something different.

So you’re not saying “Kneel before Zod” while wearing parachute pants?
[Laughs] Yeah, the flowy costumes don’t really…that’s not the style nowadays. Everything’s skintight.

Do you have a costume? A Krypton outfit?
There’s two different modes. There’s something that I have to wear a motion-capture suit for, because if I actually wore it, I wouldn’t be able to move. It’s a very big…thing. I actually don’t know what it’s going to look like, I just know that it’s very cumbersome. There’s another thing that I wear that’s an actual costume. It’s pretty simple. There’s no paisley or anything.

"It’s a very big…thing"

Sounds more like he'll be in a battlesuit or something, as opposed to wearing some type of armor.

Sounds cool, though I was kind of hoping the mysterious 'mo-cap man' was going to be a Doomsday style monster. Still good though, pumped as all hell for this movie.

As long as they stay away from the 'GL' look. I hated that suit...

"It’s fascinating, actually."

Of course it is, you british teabag.
You´re not supposed to read with your silly daughter either, you´re supposed to lock yourself in a hotel room, like Bob Orci, and prepare for the movie.

But still wish they didn't go with Zod if makes it feel like a remake/remagined/rehash of Superman 2. They should gone with Brainiac and left it at that

this sounds awesome.

@ jduke25

why does he need that armour? hasn't zod got superman's abilities.
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 10/31/2011, 4:38 AM
@marvel he does have the same ones, but I'm just going with what Shannon said. Maybe, since Superman has been on earth basically his whole life his body has been supercharged by the sun so he'd possibly be a little stronger than Zod. So maybe this is the armor Zod wore on Krypton during battle. So either, Zod fights Superman once with the armor and Superman beats him and damages his armor, Zod flees and figures out the sun is what makes them the way they are so he supercharges his body and comes back for the climatic battle where two or more supercharged Kryptonians battle Superman wearing just the simple suits. Or Zod first fights Superman without the armor, gets a beatdown and then wears the armor in the final battle. Idk, just some ideas going by what Shannon said about there being two different suits.

I like how Shannon dodge the question about if he will say kneel before Zod.

This movie has got me hyped big time, definitely up there with The Avengers n The Dark Knight Rises, still a bit iffy about the whole S redesign though but I can live with it

Wow! Seems a bit extreme for this site, but hell it is pleasing 2 the eyes :P

Doesn't really matter if he reads it or not. Snyder and em dictates where the movie is going. Doubt we'll have something close to the source material...

@ncreb look at my explanation to marvel72. Idk if that's how it'll be but just something I thought of right off the top of my head.

rbfn04 - 10/31/2011, 6:18 AM
@JDUKE25 just doubt they'd have Snyderman... er Superman... beat up Zod first. Just doesn't fit with the underdog thing "let's get our hero beat to a pulp so he can comeback and win the audience's hearts" that Hollywood loves so much.
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 10/31/2011, 6:18 AM
@ncreb thanks. I know what you mean, I feel like I'm in a dream state right now. I need to go back to bed.
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 10/31/2011, 6:29 AM
@rbfn04 well I just think that when they first get to earth they wouldn't have mastered their abilities seeing as how they just got them. Superman has had years to learn and master his powers so I think he'd outmatch them and they'd somehow be able to flee. Find a secluded area, idk where but somewhere, and practice their abilities and fighting skills on one another and maybe even one of them gets killed in the process. They come back super charged and lay a whoopin on supes and then go to smallville, like they said, when zod learns who superman is. Eventually leading to Superman getting pissed off and going berserk on Zod and them. (Not meaning he destroys the town or anything, just that he starts beating the crap out of them, throwing them in the the ground, sending them into a hillside, and using his heat vision on them.) Leading to Superman finally defeating them.

@rbfn04 Your Probably right.
rbfn04
rbfn04 - 10/31/2011, 6:47 AM
@JDUKE25 yeah, I always felt that was kinda weird that they always get to Earth and BAM! Superpowers. Still, just saying, not part of Hollywood's MO to have the hero win the first fight.

Can be more of a desperation move. Kinda like, "oh you kicking our asses? We'll see" and he hops into an armour and rampages trhu SMallville/Metropolis.

Not that I'm putting down your idea, just reminding you that it's not in the "how to make fights in moveis" booklet ;)

1 word....sweet!!!
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 10/31/2011, 6:56 AM
@rbfn04 yeah, but the villain don't really win the first fight all of the time: Spiderman, GG causes chaos, Spiderman messes with his glider and he flees. Spiderman 2, doc ock gets his a$$ kick by Aunt May lol, but gets away. Iron Man 2, whiplash is defeated at the race.

If Zod defeated Superman in the first battle then he would start taking over. I think Superman would have to defeat him first and he gets away, comes back stronger than ever and fights superman so hard to where Superman is at the point of defeat. But yeah, I like the idea of him probably getting beaten then gets his armor, makes it harder for Superman and Supes is like "oh s#!t...I'm in trouble."
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 10/31/2011, 6:57 AM
but the villain doesn't*
