Speaking to Collider about Boardwalk Empire, actor Michael Shannon shared the following details about his role as General Zod in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel:

Are you prepared for the onslaught with Man of Steel?

SHANNON: Honestly, no. I’m not prepared for that, in any way, shape or form. It gives me shivers. I’ll do the best I can. It’s funny because it used to just be that you do the work and the work spoke for itself. But, when you get on a project like that, obviously it’s like half the job is being a cheerleader for the team. You’ve got to go around, stirring up the pot, as it were. But, it’s hard to do that when they tell you, “Oh, and by the way, you can’t say anything about it. You can’t tell anybody anything about it. The only thing you should say is that it’s really great.” So, it’s really great, I’m having such a great time, and everybody is great. But, I can’t tell you anything else, so that gets a little frustrating after awhile.

Is there anything that you can say about Man of Steel?

SHANNON: I find it funny actually because, if I didn’t tell you anything about Superman, but I asked you to tell me what happens in Superman, I bet you could probably tell me the whole story. It’s like saying that I’m not supposed to talk about the Pledge of Allegiance. It’s kind of silly. People come and take pictures on the set, and they leak them out on the internet. Every time I go to a red carpet or something, there are people that have those pictures of what they think I’m going to look like in the movie. They have me in a Fu Manchu, black SS uniform that’s pretty mind-blowingly awful, and it’s completely inaccurate, but I go ahead and sign them anyway. When I sign the picture, I say, “This isn’t what it looks like. You’re wrong.” Whoever thought that they cracked the case is way off. I still have so much left to do. Most of my stuff is in November, so I haven’t really done that much. I’ve done a few little scenes, but the majority of what I’m doing is yet to come.

On his Man of Steel shooting schedule?
SHANNON: Let’s see, I’ve got the two films out right now – Take Shelter and Machine Gun Preacher. I’m really excited about people seeing Take Shelter because I think that’s pretty good. Machine Gun Preacher is all right, too. I did a movie called Premium Rush with Joseph Gordon Levitt, which I think is coming out next summer. But, right now, I’m just shooting Man of Steel. Man of Steel goes all the way up until February, and then Boardwalk Empire starts in February, so there’s not a lot of downtime there.

Man of Steel is an upcoming American superhero film under the development of Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, and David S. Goyer. Based on the DC Comics character Superman, the film will be a reboot of the Superman film series. Using Chicago as a backdrop, and with production to be based in west suburban Plano, the film entered principal photography in August 2011, for a planned theatrical release on June 14, 2013 by Warner Bros., which also includes IMAX venues.

yea i dont know how far off people can be when we saw the suit very similar to superman. As far as his battle armor, well yea, we see what Snyder and team have done with Supe's suit so I wouldnt be surprised if we as a whole are completely off. Especially with it being CGI and all.

"This isn’t what it looks like. You’re wrong.”

Haha- that's like exactly what Van Alden would say.

@ QuietStorm:

Excuse me, but what does God, I mean, Zod need with battle armor?

I'm really thinking this guy will be the absolutely perfect choice for Zod. He is hilarious in all the interviews, and always shrugs off the publicity, acting like it's not that big of a deal. And we know what that means! :) It's almost always the humble, somewhat off-kilter actors/actresses that deliver the best performances.

Haha, I love "I'm really excited about Take Shelter, I've also got Machine Gun Preacher coming out, which is alright."

Geez that's an honest guy, and talented as all hell judging by Boardwalk Empire. Can't wait to see him Zodding it up.

@Luminus He's GENERAL Zod. BDU's, battle uniforms, battle armor; whatever you want to call it, when going into battle you have some sort of uniform and thats what Zod will wear. Even though under the yellow sun he possesses new power he'll still resort back to what he knows when preparing to fight the Man of Steel and that is when we will see an battle armor of some sort. May it be an incarnation from the comics or something new, It will be there.
