The esteemed screenwriter is hopeful the show is picked up for ABC's fall schedule and has kind words for Brian Michael Bendis.

Speaking to Popcorn Biz, the accomplished screenwriter rehashed her plans for ABC's foray into Marvel properties and compared the show's subject matter to Captain America: The First Avenger.

“Brian Michael Bendis is an extraordinary writer,” says Rosenberg. “I love that series. I love that character. And we're just hoping ABC has room for it in their fall schedule. Because, you know, it's dark material. It's not 'Captain America.’ I mean, it is some pretty gritty, adult-themed stuff. So we'll have to see how that fits [on network television]. She's a former superhero with post-traumatic stress disorder trying to make it as a detective in New York. But she keeps on getting pulled back in, because she has some minor superpowers. She's got like B-level superpowers – she's so awesome! But she keeps on getting pulled back in, so she's straddling the two worlds.”

“It's very difficult to reference one or the other because, oh, Fox owns that and someone else owns that,” Rosenberg explains. “But we're able to use Luke Cage and some of the lesser-known characters. But Jessica and Luke Cage – as long as I have those two guys, I don't care who else!”

“It’s not my first [foray into the world of superheroes] because I worked on a show called 'Birds of Prey' way back – I mean decades ago!” she laughs. “So I was a little bit experienced, but I've not ever been completely immersed in that world, so this was definitely diving in a significant way. And I got very lucky, you know, in nabbing Brian Michael Bendis. How much better does it get than that? Really?”

Bendis confirmed to me a while back on Twitter that he was a consulting "where needed" on the show so hopefully that means we'll get something similar to the tone and structure of the comic book.

Jessica Campbell Jones Cage is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics universe, created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos. Jones debuted in the series Alias as an embittered former superheroine who had used the aliases Jewel, Knightress, and currently Power Woman. After hanging up her costume, she became the owner and sole employee of Alias Private Investigations.

Alias is a comic book series created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos. It was published by Marvel Comics under Marvel's MAX imprint for a total of 28 issues from 2001 to 2004.

The protagonist of Alias is Jessica Jones, a former costumed superhero named Jewel who left that avocation to become a private investigator. The running thread is Jessica's character development, as the layers of her past and personality are revealed to the reader while, simultaneously, she tries to come to terms with them herself.

Characters from the series moved to Brian Michael Bendis' subsequent series The Pulse.

Alias was written by Bendis and illustrated for most of its run by Michael Gaydos, with covers by David Mack.

Alias was one of the titles that launched Marvel's "R-Rated" MAX imprint, and was reported[1] to have been one of the reasons the imprint was created. Marvel Publishing President Bill Jemas read a draft of the script for the first issue of Alias (which, characteristically, starts with the word "[frick]") and exclaimed "Why couldn't we publish this?"

The first arc finds Jessica asked to look for a missing woman, Jessica finds herself caught in a conspiracy involving Captain America and the president of the United States. Later, her friend Carol Danvers hooks her up with Scott Lang, a.k.a. Ant-Man. Subsequently she is hired to find the recently missing Rick Jones.

Other characters appearing in the arc include Daredevil (as Jessica's attorney Matt Murdock), Captain America, and second-tier villain Man Mountain Marko.

Can't wait for it. I'll hold my judgement until this comes out. But, I hope they think about making a Heroes for Hire tv show if they're going to introduce Luke Cage in this show.

Simply MARVELOUS!!!!!

She's also written Dexter which is very similar in tone to Alias. She's also writing the Highlander reboot.

i like bendis but only on certain books. he does street level stuff well, like spidey, wolvie and luke cage, but he mangles big events and cosmic level stuff pretty bad. for example, I think secret invasion should've stayed a new avengers only thing. the big event thing kinda ended badly. It doesn't even relate to the character's power levels, I mean, he even does Strange well as long as strange handles problems akin to the problems that say Constantine handles, small scale focused stuff but with big consequences. But when it's a big throwdown between say dormamu and the whole of new york is about to explode and there's a Really Big Battle(TM), bendis kinda messes up. :(

That's because there's no such thing as "UNnecessary Twilight bashing"....

Her resume really doesn't make me feel hopeful, to be honest. Birds of Prey was unwatchable, even when you're feeling bored and just feel like browsing on YouTube... just no.

I hope to be surprised, although I have a good long time before I'll even be able to watch it - I work night shifts.

I voted Nick Fury, but seeing Carol Danvers or Spider-Woman would be pretty damn cool.

Iron Fist would make the most logical sense though.
