*Exclusive Rumor to CBM
I received an email tip last night from someone who claims to have worked on the G.I. Joe: Retaliation set who claims that the original Sgt. Slaughter himself (
Robert Remus) will be appearing in the G.I. Joe sequel. Of course, take this with grains of salt at the ready, but my source claims that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson came up with the idea for a cameo for his wrestling buddy and that the films producers and director John Chu were all for it. Reportedly, the Joe's will be on the run from Cobra at some point during the film and Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson) states he knows where they can hide out for a while, with the man who trained him to be a Joe. Enter Sgt. Slaughter and the Slaughter House!!!!!!
As a kid growing up in the '80s nothing topped G.I. Joe and the number 1 Joe for me was and always will be Sgt. Slaughter (sorry, SnakeEyes fans). I definitely hope this rumor pans out but again take this rumor with salt at the ready until we learn new details from more official channels.
Here's the awesome debut of Sgt. Slaughter in the G.I. Joe cartoon.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation is an upcoming science fiction action film directed by Jon Chu. It is a sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.
Little has been revealed about the plot other than that it will feature the G.I. Joe Team coming into a conflict with Zartan, Storm Shadow and Firefly. Zartan, who is last seen in disguise as the President of the United States, has now got the world leaders all under his thumb, warheads headed towards innocent populaces, and some new heavies on the payroll, to keep G.I. Joe at bay.
Robert Remus (born August 27, 1948), better known by his ring name Sgt. Slaughter, is an American former WWE personality and semi-retired professional wrestler. From the late 1970s to the early 1990s, Slaughter had success in the National Wrestling Alliance, American Wrestling Association, and World Wrestling Federation.
Fictionalized versions of Sgt. Slaughter were part of the G.I. Joe toyline, cartoon and comic books, as a member of the G.I. Joe team and first appeared in the five-part TV episode entitled "Arise, Serpentor, Arise!" Along with the traditional merchandising of WWE superstars, Sgt. Slaughter is one of only a few real people to be immortalized as a G.I. Joe figure, (among the others being NFL football player William "The Refrigerator" Perry, pro-wrestler Roddy Piper, and astronaut Buzz Aldrin), and even appeared in G.I. Joe: The Movie. Slaughter also appeared twice as a special guest on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, which starred fellow wrestler Captain Lou Albano.
Sgt. Slaughter is a fictional character from the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toyline series based on the professional wrestler of the same name. Though the original G.I. Joe was based on the real life Sgt. Alvin York, Sgt. Slaughter was the first G.I. Joe figure accurately based on a real person (Chicago Bears defensive tackle William "The Refrigerator" Perry was the second). Sgt. Slaughter was also the most successful toy character, with several versions of his toy action figure being released. Unlike other real-person action figures, Sgt. Slaughter's toy version makes no reference to its real-life inspiration, although the figure does have wrestling moves. The real-life Sgt. Slaughter also did the voice for the cartoon character, and appeared in person for introductions to the episodes that were originally G.I. Joe: The Movie. He was also the spokesman for the G.I. Joe toys from 1989 to early 1990, introducing the new vehicles and figures.
