Tthe Japanese Morning TV program ZIP! has just screened an exclusive new trailer---Check it out below - trailer begins at 0:45.No we have a higher quality version for your viewing pleasure.

Oddly enough or maybe promisingly, depending on your perspective, the film is being produced and distributed by Warner Bros. [in conjunction with Silver Swan Studios] who have had significant difficulties adapting Akira. Maybe they'll take notes?

As promised, I'll continue to keep tabs on the project; the film will debuts August 25, 2012 in Japan. No word yet on whether there will be a limited theater release here in the States.

All in all, I must say Battousai the Manslayer looks sick thus far.

Official Synopsis: Japan is about to enter the Meiji era and transition from the Middle Ages to industrialization. The samurai have no place in this modern society where warriors are less useful than traders. Unemployed, having lost the right to wear the sword, and facing guns and cannons, the samurai will gradually disappear into legend. Kenshin is one of such lost warrior. Once a grand master of the sword he is now a vagabond, wandering the roads of Japan. However, his chivalry and courage will make this one-time mercenary a loved and respected vigilante.

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story (るろうに剣心 -明治剣客浪漫譚- Rurōni Kenshin Meiji Kenkaku Rōmantan?) , also known as Rurouni Kenshin and Samurai X, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The fictional setting takes place during the early Meiji period in Japan. The story is about a fictional assassin named Himura Kenshin, from the Bakumatsu who becomes a wanderer to protect the people of Japan. Watsuki wrote this series upon his desire of making a shōnen manga different from the other ones that were published in that time, with Kenshin being a former assassin and the story taking a more serious tone as it continued. Although the tragic tone was highly expanded as the manga advanced, Watsuki became determined to give it a happy ending as it was aimed at teenagers.

The manga initially appeared in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from September 2, 1994, to November 4, 1999. The complete work consists of 28 tankōbon volumes, while years later it was reprinted into twenty-two kanzenban volumes. Studio Gallop, Studio Deen and SPE Visual Works adapted the manga into an anime series which aired in Japan from January 10, 1996 to September 8, 1998. Besides an animated film, two series of original video animations (OVAs) were also produced. The first adapted stories from the manga that were not featured in the anime, while the second was also a sequel of the manga. Writer Kaoru Shizuka has authored three official Rurouni Kenshin light novels which were published by Shueisha. Several video games have also been released for the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable consoles.

The United States release of the manga has been completed by Viz Media. Rurouni Kenshin is subtitled "Wandering Samurai" in some English releases, as a rough translation of "Rurō ni" (流浪に lit. "Wandering"?). The TV series later licensed in North America and released on DVD by Media Blasters. The first two seasons aired on the United States Cartoon Network as a part of the Toonami Block, while the third season was only featured in DVD. The English-language versions of the OVAs as well the film were originally released as Samurai X, although the original title was included in the DVD releases. The OVAs and film are now released as Rurouni Kenshin titles in the English Blu-ray Disc releases. The first light novel has been translated by Viz and distributed in the United States and Canada. None of the video games of the series have been released in North America.

The series has been highly popular in Japan, the United States, Brazil and Europe, being recognized as one of the best of all time. The manga has sold over 47 million copies in Japan as of 2007 while the anime has ranked among the 100 most watched series in Japan multiple times. The anime and manga have received praise and criticism from various publications for anime, manga and other media, with both having received good response on the characters' designs and the historical setting. The OVAs have also received praise due to their animation and music.

OOOOOOHHHH! CANT WAIT!

@TheBigBoss917
AGREE! Imagen if they would have done DBZ!

I would really like to see Steven Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) Do a Dragon Ball Z. Or even A Full Metal Alchemist. He nails that anima sense of humor, and I think with a Big budget he could kill these two.

Nice and all but I guarantee WB is lining up an all Caucasian cast for "Bleach" if it ever gets off the ground.

I've never seen an episode of the anime series, but that Toonami intro (which just brought back memories btw) I might check it out, and the movie looks sick as well. That'a why its best for Japan to adapt their stories themselves, because at least they can get it right.

The "oro" it's too close to the manga/anime and not fan of it.

The action is promising.

"And [frick] off to all you idiots who think that the cast of an anime has to be Japanese. Most of the characters aren't even Japanese. Take Chad for instance in Bleach, he's Mexican."

In most anime, the characters are japanese, plain and simple. They made it clear that Chad is Mexican just like they do with any other character that's meant to be of a different ethnicity.

Also, frick anyone who supports damn near every anime character being whitewashed in films.

"Goku wasn't Asian and should probably be casted as a Caucasian. If I see a blonde haired green eyed Asian, I'll die with laughter and never take that movie seriously. Saiyans are just better casted as Caucasian."

Semantics... he still has an Asian name, lived in locations with Asian elements, and wore Asian clothes. Not to mention that when Launch looked at him and Krillin(whom is Asian) alongside each other she thought that it was plausible that they were related and even thought it was plausible that Roshi could be family to him as well. So that should tell you something.

Not to mention that Goku doesnt go Super Saiyan until DBZ so you wouldnt have to worry about that as well as the fact that they can give them contacts with a more faint green color and make the Blonde hair less vibrant.

I guarantee that if we had a full Asian Superman or a Black Superman y'all would bitch and moan till the cows come home.

Just becasue the Japanese are doing it, doesnt mean it will be better. Devilman was VERY popular in Japan. Sold tons of manga, cartoon series, and lots of spin off stuff. BUT...the live action movie was a pile of crap, really big pile of crap. It was even voted worst movie of the year by the Japanese critics and fans. The live action Dragon Ball movie they did back in the day, wasnt much better. I hope the best for this film. Even if its not following the anime or the manga, its hard not to enjoy a decent samurai flick.

@CrashTest

Lol, wasn't DragonBall Evolution done by Stephen Chow? (a quick wiki tells me he produced it). So....yeah

Although, now that I think about it, wasn't there something about either him or the director boycotting doing any promo for Evolution because Fox had total control over the movie and they didn't want to be associated with the end result?
