The Amazing Spider-Man is an upcoming American superhero film directed by Marc Webb, based on the comic book of the same name and starring Andrew Garfield as the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. It is the fourth Columbia Pictures film that portrays Spider-Man in film and is a reboot of the film series that stars the superhero. The cast includes Garfield as Peter Parker and his alter ego, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy and Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Connors. The film will portray Parker as his super powers are evolving in high school.

The film's development began simultaneously with Sony announcing the cancellation of Spider-Man 4. Opting for a reboot with the same production team rather than another sequel, the studio announced a July 2012 release date for what was now titled The Amazing Spider-Man. James Vanderbilt was hired to write the script while Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves helped fine-tune the script. Filming started in December 2010 in Los Angeles before moving to New York City with the help of RED Epic camera. The film entered post-production in April 2011.

Sony Entertainment has focused its marketing campaign with a promotional website with released images, 2 theatrical trailers, a prologue screening in certain cities and a video game tie-in being developed by Beenox among other products. The Amazing Spider-Man is scheduled to be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 3, 2012. A sequel of the film is being planned for release in 2014 with James Vanderbilt hired to again write the screenplay.

Hmmm... interesting thoughts on the story and mythology of the character.
I liked it that he's basing it on one of the original comics instead of basing it off ultimate. :)

I want to like Marc Webb, I do. I'd like to feel good about his take on the character, and the trailer almost convinced me. Yet in every one of these interviews, I can't help this crawly feeling that he's essentially just feeding the fanbase what he thinks it wants to hear rather than what he genuinely feels.

Cristoph Waltz has already been cast as Norman Osborn and appears in this film. For a bunch of fanboys, you guys are terrible at keeping up on rumors.

Who the hell is Norman "Osbron"? :)

That piece about Irrfan Khan is old news. His role is credited as an Oscorp employee, if I remember correctly. I am pretty sure it's the character who becomes Demigoblin in the comics but don't quote me on that part.

I was pretty sure Christopher Waltz turned down the role of The Lizard and booked another movie instead. If that's the case, I think scheduling would remove him from the Norman Osborn running. Also, you don't really need to cast him, you can just have a shadowy figure at the end of the movie. I mean if it's at a desk at Oscorp or something, people will know who it is.

Interesting.

If GG does appear in a sequel, which he probably will, I want William Fichtner to play him.

Sounds like Webb’s heart and mind are in the right place, but if he’s trying to set something up for future movies without taking care of this one first, there could be BIG trouble . . . .

As long as there are no more Green Power Ranger costumes . . they cast a great actor last time, he even had the right looks - then they put him in THAT suit.

Save Goblin for the last movie. Seriously. Introduce Osborn in this or the sequel and develop him well. Give other villains time to shine while he works in the shadows, similar to Spectacular Spiderman. Goblin needs to appear. Just save him for last and as far as casting, don't bother if he's not gonna be involved with Lizard's origins. Goblin is his nemesis. Let's do him justice... for once.

Why only ONE VILLAIN? DON'T ASK THAT! We don't need another SM3..

They're doing what they should do and taking their time to build up a significant character like the Green Goblin. I just hope we see a cameo or snippet of Harry or something in this movie.

Sounds good i don't thin you can make a mask like GG Becuase his mouth goes right threw the mask, who knows it might work. I want either Bryan Cranston or Jason isaacs to play Norman Osborn.

It does sounds like Green Goblin will be the villain in the sequel.

I still think it's too soon to bring him in.
