As you can see, Feige is on a whirlwind press tour for The Avengers and is being asked all manner of questions from inquisitive journalists. Fresh of giving an update on Guardians of the Galaxy, Feige spoke to The Huffington Post about the 2014 Captain America sequel amongst a few other topics.
QUESTION: If you could poach one character from DC, which one would it be?
FEIGE: Heh, well ... I don't know, exactly. The obvious answer is Batman.
QUESTION:But I get the feeling you like some of the secondary characters.
FEIGE:I'm not going to name any particular one, but I will say there are times when -- and I'm going back years and years -- when I was very jealous of some of the Vertigo titles. There was some neat stuff going on. And some obscure stuff that could be interesting.
QUESTION: Captain America always has a sidekick. In the next "Captain America" movie, is he going to have a sidekick?
FEIGE:It is interesting that you ask that question. And I'm not going to give you an answer. But I will give you kudos for pointing that out and recognizing that.
QUESTION: When I was younger, my dad had a bunch of Cap' comic books from the "Captain America and the Falcon" era.
FEIGE:[Pauses] That was a fun era.
QUESTION:You're a vague guy.
FEIGE:[Laughs]
QUESTION:And no comment to my accusation about you either?
FEIGE: [Laughs] No.
QUESTION:OK, I get it. I realize that you have to be vague.
FEIGE:I'm impressed with questions that are more relevant than others. And those are relevant.
Well, you're certainly not going to get much more from Feige than that but in my personal opinion, I'd say that he all but confirmed that Cap will have a sidekick in his sequel outing. Unless Bucky makes his return sooner than what most fans anticipate it very well could be The Falcon fighting alongside The Sentinel of Liberty. Also, recently actor Derek Luke teased a return to the MCU in an all new role so maybe we're piecing together a few puzzle pieces here.
Captain America: The First Avenger is a 2011 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Captain America. It is the fifth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film was directed by Joe Johnston, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and stars Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Dominic Cooper, Neal McDonough, Derek Luke, and Stanley Tucci. Predominantly set during World War II, the film tells the story of Steve Rogers, a sickly man from Brooklyn who is transformed into super-soldier Captain America to aid in the war effort. Rogers must stop the Red Skull – Adolf Hitler's ruthless head of weaponry, and the leader of an organization that intends to use a device called a "tesseract" as an energy-source for world domination.
Screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus said in April 2011 that they have been writing a sequel for Marvel Studios. In a June 2011 interview, they said, "The story will likely be in the present day. We're experimenting with flashback elements for more period World War II stuff. I can't say much more than that but we made it baggy enough to refer to more stories in the past". In September 2011, Chris Evans said that a sequel may not be released until 2014. In January 2012, Neal McDonough mentioned that a sequel would likely be filmed after the completion of Thor 2, which would likely be before the end of 2012.
In March 2012, it was reported that Marvel has whittled down a field of ten directors to three potential candidates; George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau), F. Gary Gray (The Italian Job) and brothers Anthony and Joseph Russo (Community) to helm the sequel.[130] In April 2012, Walt Disney Studios announced that it will release the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger on April 4, 2014. Disney stated, "The second installment will pick-up where … The Avengers leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world."
