Kevin Feige Talks Skrulls, S.H.I.E.L.D And CAPTAIN AMERICA 2

Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige reveals a sliver of new info on Captain America 2, shares insight about the rights to the Skrulls and more.

In an interview with C.H.U.D., Feige talks about what else....The Avengers. But there's also a few new tidbits of info that emerged from this interview including some intriguing intel on Captain America 2---

Are the rights to the Skrulls with another studio?

Feige: Yes, Skrulls have a big connection to Fantastic Four. So there are some contractual limitations about who can do what when it comes to Skrulls. Though that is not why we didn’t do Skrulls. There is already enough going on in this movie.

While describing the process of making The Avengers a reality, Feige talks about who may have inquired about using S.H.I.E.L.D. in their films.

Feige: ...during development – I don’t remember who it was – but some of the writers asked, “Hey we want to have an agent who is sort of trailing Tony Stark, and is asking questions to add an air of mystery and global consequence to what he’s doing. Can we use SHIELD?” And I said, no no, you can’t do that. I said that as a knee-jerk reaction because that is what I would always say when people writing Fantastic Four or X-Men or Spider Man or whatever – I’m not saying they all asked for SHIELD, but many of them would ask for something that wasn’t in their contract. So my knee-jerk was no no. But then I thought, oh wait, you can! Of course you can! It’s ours! We have it!......

Feige goes on to discuss the Hulk stealing the show in the movie and whether he'll get another solo film. Feige says Mark Ruffalo's contract would allow it but there's no current plan for another Hulk solo film. Moving on to Avengers 2, Feige says we have to get through Iron Man III, Thor 2 and the Captain America sequel first.

Feige: If we do an Avengers 2 it will be after [Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2]. They have to grow, they have to change. What they’ve gone through in this movie will impact their state of mind and where they stand in their next movies. Then whatever they go through in those movies is going to affect where we meet them in the next Avengers film. But I think people will be surprised to see, as we go forward – particularly in Iron Man 3 – the notion of how singular the stories can become. Iron Man 3 is a very singular Tony Stark story. As is Thor 2. Cap, who is stuck in the modern day with no friends or family, there will be some revelations of who is still alive from his days in WWII, but SHIELD and Nick Fury are kind of his confidants right now. So of all these movies, Captain America 2 will be most closely associated with Avengers.

Captain America dealing with someone who is still around from his World War II adventures? I find it interesting that Feige says "revelation" here, implying that it's a secret. The question is whether this is a secret to the characters in the film or just a secret to the movie going audience. Either way, I'm pretty excited for Captain America 2, probably more so than I am for Iron Man III and Thor 2.

The Avengers is an upcoming American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson. In The Avengers, Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., recruits Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to save the world from destruction.

Development of The Avengers began when Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch in April 2005. After the success of the film Iron Man in May 2008, Marvel announced that The Avengers would be released in July 2011. With the signing of Scarlett Johansson in March 2009, the film was pushed back for a 2012 release. Whedon was brought on board in April 2010 and rewrote the screenplay that was originally written by Zak Penn. Production began in April 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before moving to Cleveland, Ohio in August 2011 and New York City in September 2011. The film was converted to 3D in post-production.

Winter Soldier, Peggy (possibly), DumDum Dugan (if they use some sort of aging serum from the comics) and Red Skull (which would be a risky move to explain where he went after CA:TFA)

Winter Soldier is coming

anyway someone needs to ask Kevin Feige in detail what is going on with Dr Strange, Black Panther, Heroes For Hire.

Leave Bucky dead. Don't make the mistake the comics made. Bring back the Red Skull.

Cap will find out that Fury is actually the black guy from the howling commandos, and that he took some anti-aging serum to slow his aging.

he'll also probably meet up with peggy carter (who will be an old woman) and finally have his dance with her

i hope bucky doesnt come back, at least not until cap 3

I have to agree with iLoveMarvel. The first uniform's the best, looks the most realistic and practical.

I hope, for Cap 2 they explore Fury's origin with HIM being injected with the Super Soldier Formula which explains why he was around with Tony's dad during WWII. Wonder if THAT will be the revelation?

I read that story awhile back so be easy on me you purists if I got it wrong.

I wondered if Red Skull was associated with Loki somehow. Cap comments in the avengers about his staff, I think it was, looking like a hydra weapon. The cube also seemed to suck Red Skull somewhere at the end of Captain America so it could all tie together I think. I am guessing Winter Soldier for the second Cap movie though.

And am I the only one who actually just want the same team for Avengers 2? I mean if you have too many people, it may not work out.

Well we know Bucky will return as Winter Soldier at some point, perhaps Red Skull might as well since we don't really know what happened to him and scenes with Peggy Carter were cut out of The Avengers so maybe they'll tell that story in Cap 2 instead.

Who's alive for Cap 2? Well, the Skull,Zola,Dum-Dum,and Bucky are the obvious candidates. You know,as much I loved the mid-credit reveal in the Avengers, if that grinning visage was the Red Skull instead of you-know-who I wouldn't have minded either...
MadTitan

bring it on, Red Skull with Crossbones would be good. or how about Zemo.

on the Cap costume it needs some upgrade on the current design.

just bring it! lol

Cap 2 will take place between the time he rescued Bucky and company and the attack on the last base at the end of Cap 1. Part 3 will be Winter Soldier.

@Duhdaduh

its better of having Nick Fury been Isaiah Bradley. Isaiah Bradley was a test subject and he aged slowly.

@iLoveMarvelAndDC

i agree i like CATFA costume so much better compare to the one in The Avengers.

@Dahamma No, I agree, this is absolutely a fantastic Avengers team! In The Avengers 2 I don't wan't any new members, just a new and awesome villain/threat! :-D

Rodimus9- Apparently, not any more. Not too long ago, they said it would be entirely in our time for the Cap sequel, which possibly means nothing more than a few flashback scenes of the WW2 days.

And if there's any additions to the Avengers roster, MS MARVEL should be the first contender, hands down!

And I say no red skull for cap 2. Either make him the villain in Thor 2 (he went to one of the 9 realms and cmon that would be sick) or hve him eam up with "you know who" in avengers 2

Winter Soldier makes most sense being he has ties with Black Widow and CA. It's pretty obvious that the "revelation" of who's left is Bucky since he was thought to be dead. It's revealed to Cap otherwise
Fogs
Fogs - 5/7/2012, 7:54 AM
If you listen to the commentary track on CA:FTA they state clearly that Bucky isn't dead. And when Caps rescues him they say this *thing* they were doing to him has everything to do with what he'll become.

There's no way they could be clearer :)

What is people's obsession with Winter Soldier? Honestly he is the most annoying character with the worst title I've ever read. I don't get it. Bucky didn't work as Robin and Winter Soldier doesn't work as Nightwing. Stop it.

I think Hank Pym and Wasp are the most easily characters to be intrduced in Avengers 2. I would like to see Ms. Marvel but i guess it can be difficult to explain her origin and stuff.
