Citing scheduling conflicts, the actress has dropped out of the competition to play [reportedly] Maya Hansen, an old Tony Stark flame. "Hopefully there’ll be another Marvel film in my future", says Chastain. *Sir Ben Kingsley speaks.

Taking to her facebook page Jessica Chastain has stated that she will not be appearing in Iron Man 3, stating scheduling conflicts as the culprit behind her inability to commit to the role. Reportedly, Diane Kruger, Gemma Arterton and Isla Fisher were/are also in the running.

Chastain wrote:

“Sorry to say that Iron Man 3 isn’t going to work out. My schedule is jammed packed and I can’t fit anything else in. The press announced my possible attachment far too soon. I know many of you wanted me to be involved, and I’m so sorry to disappoint you. Hopefully there’ll be another Marvel film in my future. Shane Black and everyone on the IM3 team are really wonderful. I’m very excited to see the film when it comes out. xx”


Iron Man 3 is expected to begin shooting in the coming weeks, actor Robert Downey Jr. (RDJ) has already been spotted in North Carolina. He can currently be seen in The Avengers, which opened May 4th in the United States and broke the box office.

i wouldnt mind Diane Kruger or Isla Fisher. i hope Gemma Arterton dont get casted sorry to say that but she has been casted in alot of big budget movies. lets see someone different for the role.

first she pass on oblivion which is going to be one of the best sf movies,very possible groundbreaking movie next year for that bin laden movie...
now she is passing iron man 3 probably for another role in some low budget,small movie that nobody will see.
she is a great actress,and a gret girl but she really needs to get her mind right...

BTW, Intruder...I recently remembered a comment you made several months back saying that The Avengers would outgross Avatar at the box office. Initially, I thought you were crazy. Now, with the opening weekend numbers, I think its reaching $2B is fully possible. Guess an "I Told You So" moment may be coming if this success keeps up.

Possibly.But they could always refuse.Turning your back on a contract can lead to bad blood between artists and studios too.Especially for non established,lower rung talent.
I do agree that it seems like shooting herself in the foot mind you.But maybe she isn't holding the gun you know? :)

I have to Intruder mad credit. He called this movie being this gigantic. I knew it would be big, but not this big. I knew I'd like, but it ended up loving it and it became my new favorite film. Good call buddy.
