HULK Television Show To Hopefully Hit ABC Airwaves Next Year, Network Passes On AKA JESSICA JONES

Paul Lee, Entertainment President for ABC talks optimistically about the Hulk television show. Work will continue on the Guillermo del Toro project while AKA Jessica Jones comes to a halt.

Lee stated in a conference call this morning that he would "like more Marvel projects to come to ABC".
"Hulk is in development,it wasn't going to be ready this season but we hope it's going to be ready for next season."

Fan favorite Guillermo del Toro (Hell Boy, Pan's Labrynth) is developing the project the television network which also has Disney for a parent company.

"We're immensely proud to be [in] company with The Avengers," he said. "We're going to continue to develop aggressively. We're very happy to make shows not just for our own network but for other networks too. Where the shows are more appropriate to our brand they'll go with us. Where they're more appropriate to brands like Fox [Click here for disappointing news about The Punisher] or NBC, CBS, happy to do that too. We would like to see some Marvel projects move to television."

When pressed for details, Lee remained mum only dangling the interesting reveal that the network has other Marvel properties to develop.

"We've got some in development, but none that I can talk about at this point."

Sadly, one of those shows is not AKA Jessica Jones. Lee confirmed that AKA Jessica Jones, a TV adaptation of the Marvel comic book series Alias, will not be going to series. Reportedly, the show would have featured titular character, Jessica Jones with feature appearances from Luke Cage and Carol Danvers, better known as Ms. Marvel.

Initially, my first thought in response to Lee's comments about more Marvel properties in development lead me to AKA Jessica Jones so I was stunned to learn that ABC declined to move forward. On paper, it had the potential to be a fabulous show. No update on the fate of the "Cloak and Dagger" ABC Family show as of yet but we'll post details if there's any development. With the success of The Avengers, it makes me wonder if Disney is simply rethinking which characters they want to bring to primetime airwaves. Maybe a S.H.I.E.L.D. espionage television show?

Del Toro and Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick continue to develop Hulk for ABC.

Development on Jessica Jones by "Twilight" screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has reportedly come to a halt.

Ruffalo for Hulk already. Don't be stupid, now, Marvel. You just fixed Hulk, that's what you wanted to do, you've done it, don't shit all over that achievement.

Oh thank god. The screenwriter for Twilight was head writer for AKA Jessica Jones.

Shoot, man. I was hoping to see a possible Luke Cage and Iron-Fist cameo/appearance from that show. And, hell, they were going to have Carol Danvers on the show. CAROL DANVERS!!! *Sigh*

Stay EPIC, my friends!

i had a feeling AKA Jessica Jones wont happen. i mean how have Luke Cage been a supporting character. maybe this failed cause maybe they want to do a Heroes For Hire movie or a Luke Cage solo movie. plus the screen writer is Melissa Rosenberg shes more famous for writting the screenplay for The Twilight Saga.

Cloak and Dagger should be a good tv series

Jessica Jones can't feature appearences by Ms. Marvel before she's featured in a Marvel movie, maybe even Avengers 2 which only got the green light a few days ago. So i think Marvel dropped AKA for that reason.

damn damn shame. I so was more looking forward to AKA Jessica Jones. much better concept for TV than the Hulk. I think this is a mistake. ...look at the Hulk in "Avengers."; that's a character for feature films

I hope neither of these are in the MCU, I doubt Ruffalo would play Banner on TV and the show would not only interfere with future Hulk movies but probably end up being milked to death, while AKA is being written by a Twilight writer...

Yes, we have now seen Hulk done correctly. Without Ruffalo and effects of the same caliber as the movie, I say don't even bother.

Now that I think about it, I honestly don't know how that show would stay on for a couple of seasons. Hell, to be honest, the only reason why I was excited for this show was because we would have gotten an appearance/cameo from Luke Cage, Iron-Fist, and Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel)! So, yeah, now I see why this show was declined to continue. All the fans would care about is seeing appearances from Luke Cage, Iron-Fist, and Ms. Marvel.

Actually Punisher would be good if handled right.

If anyone can pull off the Hulk for t.v it is Del Toro obviously it won't be as cool as the Avengers hulk. But I will take t.v hulk over no hulk.

Hell, I hope that this new Hulk tv show won't affect the character where the fans start losing interest and faith in the character. If that happens (which I hope to God not) then it will be more than likely that fans and general audiences won't be interested and/or excited for another Hulk film.

No one cares about a TV show, MARVEL. We want a HULK movie starring Ruffalo.

@IM53 - Don't worry, man. I feel the same as well. What a performance brought by Ruffalo as Banner/Hulk. Wow! And now that I read this article and keep thinking about it, I think that things are better in the big MCU.

I think they should look at the Steven King - Marvel comic adaptations of the Dark Tower. A series formed this way would be less expensive than a movie or the proposed series (mini-series) from Ron Howard. The comics really a lreay have the story boards and episodes mostly completed.

Hell, almost forgot about the Punisher show. Detective Castle during the day and Punisher at night? Not being a dick but HELL NO! Punisher is Punisher. That's all there is to him. He ain't a detective, just a hardcore vigilante who "takes out" crime lords, thugs, etc.

Why are they still pushing a low, low budget TV show when coming off Avengers The Hulk has enough interest to get a feature where the fans don't have to compromise on casting, and FX!?! Is Marvel tone deaf to Hulk fans?
BJD
BJD - 5/15/2012, 11:36 AM
I still can't fathom how a "Hulk" show can be anywhere near entertaining without top quality CGI...which of course won't happen because it's still too expensive....maybe in ten years if and when the cost and turn around time on CGI is significantly reduced.

As for Jessica Jones, they would have better luck with either a Ms. Marvel or Luke Cage show. Jessica Jones is just way too obscure to be palatable.

this could be a good way to introduce smaller characters with tv... and work them into marvel movies.. ABC is owned by disney which owns marvel... I do worry about the crummy FX but you never know

KingLobo - 5/15/2012, 11:38 AM
Also with all the legal procedurals out there, a Dare Devil series could be cool. However, that's kinds of a through back to the 80's and 90's conceptually.

Remember historically, shows like Hercules, Xena, Mutant X, Cleopatra 2020 (or whatever it was), Invisible man, G vs. E, VIP, Viper etc...ran on WB (CW) FOX, UPN and other sencond tier channels.

ALL of the fantasy, comic, genre based shows that aired on Network TV have pretty much crapped out after one..MAYBE 2 seasons.

Has to be Ruffalo and his Hulk, would be best to capitalise on the success and popularity from the Avengers

The public has zero name recognition for "jessica jones." At least Dr. Strange or Cloak and Dagger (barf!) sound sort of interesting.

Can anyone explain to me why they think Ruffalo's performance was so great?

What was it specifically?

I thought his was the most ho-hum performance of the entire cast.

I'd rather have a Spider-Man series.

Could Marvel actually be at a place now where they could get Ruffalo on TV. A Banner/Hulk show would rock if it remained in the well established MCU! Don't go all DC on us here Marvel and have different "Universes" playing out across the live action media. keep that stuff for the books and animation please.
