@negro....isnt it obvious....he had to die so his name wouldnt be ruined and so that batman would become the ones they went after he took on his burden potentially becoming the white knight himself rather than the dark knight...to me nolan is refering to the JOKER as the dark knight and in dark knight rises we will see the JOKER RISE!!!!!!

I love the "Olson St." Man of Steel reference.
I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as a "City holiday", though.

I think the whole "Batman killed Dent" thing is meant to be part of Batman's and Gordon's truce at the end of TDK, where Bats accepted responsibility for the crimes Dent committed.

If you watch The Dark Knight with the volume down, you can still hear Aaron Ekhart screaming,
"YOU CAN'T GIVE IN!!!!!"
"RACHEL!!"
"SHUT UP!!"
etc.

This is from the Mayor, who currently believes that Batman went evil and killed Dent. This is what had to be done in order to help Gotham keep Harvey as the hero. Batman said he can be what Gotham needs him to be, and in this case it's the villain.

i always thought the mayor might know more than he's letting on. when my theory was that Dent was still alive and they locked him away somewhere where he'll never be found i kept going back to TDK to see if there were any clues. one of the clues i latched on too was Gordon and Garcia in the mayor's office after The Joker blew up the hospital talking about what happened to dent. they don't know. and then the mayor's line was... "how long can we keep this quiet?" and i always thought that was them giving each other the wink like "well.. as long as we have too.. UNTIL THE NEXT MOVIE BADA BING!" but it would be a pretty bad move if the mayor knew about Harvey two-face and knew batman took the fall for him and he still goes ahead and makes "Dent Day"

i'm slowly accepting that dent is forever gone :( but i wont fully embrace it until the end credits roll lol...

i just want either Dent or Ras to make a comeback in the current timeline. not just flashbacks.

JackyTimish - Two Face has never had a half skull look. Its always been half burned. Soooo...you're an idiot.

PS: Avengers DID have a story. A 6 movie deep story. Its all connected. Which is the beauty of it. And thats not me being a Marvelite, thats just me being the guy who understands both and thinks the people who are one sided on one or the other are friggin tools.

Cool gifs.
Can't believe people didn't get the ending of The Dark Knight.
Odinsbeard@ I noticed that line inthe cinema, as well as the little scene where Batman places the coin next to Harvey, in his hospital bed. That scene was taken from Eye of the Beholder in Batman annual... 10, I think? In which, Harvey has his face fixed, Dark Knight Returns style, then goes to Arkham and proceeds to scar his own face again. So I always assumed that line from the mayor was for fans of hypertime, wherein we can denote that the mayor knows about his alternate personality even to the point where he may have already been Two-Face. Nolan has added many more of these little hypertime allowances than people think. In Batman Begins there is a sequence in which The Scarecrow sets Batman on fire and intoxicates him with fear gas. We then see flashes of his fears; the bats in the cave and the murder of his parents. This could imply that he is seeing Scarecrow as the killer of his parents and is redirecting (or misdirecting) his anger towards him. This ties in with the concept shown in The Batman, in which he does this with Mr. Freeze and is in keeping with the rest of Batman Begins. Ra's said something about his fathers death as being an unfortunate side-effect of a League of Shadows plot and The Roman gets a little of that misdirected anger, when Bruce confronts him in his bar. This would allow (in a hypertime kind of way) for Tim Burton's Batman. That film could be read as Bruce training his mind to see Napier as the killer of his parents in order to redirect his anger towards him and justify the fact that he was setting out to kill him at the end of Burton's film.

I have to say, the Nolan Batman franchise has certainly brought fans a good handfull of the Bat's villians. Six of them! That's pretty cool. :)

I still say that it's not Bat's that dies, I say he has to kill (break his 1 rule) in order to save Gotham. I just feel to bring on finality they have to present Batman with a tough choice. The choice they've been pushing since day one. How far is he willing to go to save Gotham. I think that someone close dies; Alfred or Lucious and it pushes him over the edge.

That or....

We get the inception style ending and this entire thing was a dream sequence from when Bruce inhaled the blue flower in Ras's place in Begins.
