Announced last year at SDCC 2011, details on the live-action Voltron movie have been virtually nonexistent but this year's Con supplied a brief update from World Event Productions' Creative Director Jeremy Corray and vice president Robert Kopla .

QUESTION: What’s the latest word on the Voltron feature film that you introduced at last year’s Comic-Con?

Kopla: It’s currently in development with Relativity Media. Josh Oppenheimer and Thomas Donnelly are working on the script and they have some cool ideas. It’s going to be a big action adventure flick and we’re really excited about it. We have some talented producers on it.

Relativity Media announced last year that they had optioned the rights for a feature film based on the 5 brave space explorers who find robot lions which form the galactic defender known as Voltron.

The live-action film will be produced by Atlas Entertainment’s Roven (The Dark Knight) and Richard Suckle (The International), along with Kickstart Entertainment’s Jason Netter (Wanted). World Events Productions’ Ted Koplar (Voltron Force) will executive produce. The script is being penned by Thomas Dean Donnelly (Conan the Barbarian) and Joshua Oppenheimer (Sahara).

I would assume that they are waiting to see what success is had with Pacific Rim before they move forward on this project. I never really watched the show growing up, but this might spark my interest Voltron since this could look absolutely amazing in theaters.

All I remember is the fat kid...please keep the fat kid in it!!

Haha. Holy shit. I swear I remember seeing a poster for this like 4 years ago and thinking, "Cool." [frick]ers still haven't moved ahead.

Just keep Michael Bay away from it.

This has potential. Loved Voltron as a child.

And that live-action Robotech isn't exactly making any progress,either...

It would be awesome as long as they don't walk into Michael Bay's footsteps.

I think it should be made after Pacific Rim is released. Y'know, so that it takes influence more from that than from Michael Bay's transforming robots movies...

But, c'mon. I really want to see this in live-action.

VOLTRON, HE-MAN, THUNDERCATS, ROBOTECH, THUNDERCATS, DRAGONBALL Z(THE RIGHT WAY) STREETFIGHTER (AGAIN THE RIGHT WAY)....ALL HAVE THE POTENTIAL, IF THEY DO THEM THEY NEED TO GET POINTERS FROM MARVEL.

Hire Michael Bay as a consult for the action, get JJ abrams to write the script, and Mat Reeves to direct.

Looks like they have credited producers but the writers.... not so much (Conan the Barbarian and Sahara).

I want to see this movie. I watched it as a kid until it was taken off of Toonami.
OHHHHH TOONAMI!!! How I miss the! The center-point of my childhood!!

I also want to see a Thundercats movie!! It could be really cool!

HEY! If they can take the story of Pocahantas and replace the Natives with Aliens on a different planet but basically keep the exact same story (Avatar!!!) then why can't the Thundercats be done right and successfully!!
NO EXCUSE!! ;D

I´ve never watched the cartoon. I know the character by name and intro only. So to me it doesnt really feel that important. It could be cool thou.
But i rather see He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, Captain Planet, Dino Riders, Dinosaucers, Flash Gordon, Gargoyles, Jonny Quest, Biker Mice From Mars or Robotech in the big screen before this.
Specially He-Man. That could look so [frick]ing badass with todays special effects.

@ AlexDeLarge87 with todays affects and abilities he-man would be astonishing as would thundercats and a Lenzman remake to resolve issues of it being a poor animated movie.

Just wait until Pacific Rim is released..... They'll be killing themselves to get this out. Voltron will get made... but only because GDT will show everyone how BOSS giant robots fighting giant aliens really are!

I love the idea for this movie! ...Although, I really love the blocky cool design of the robots in transformers in the animated series's, and Bay took that away with making them soo alien. So while that pic at the top looks cool I really wish it looked more clean and sleak, or blocky. Im a sucker for eye candy, and good clean designs I guess,)

This would be great to see on the big screen. Just keep Michael Bay away from this.

@AlexDeLarge I second that! Those would be awesome! I think Mighty Max, Swat Kats, and Street Sharks deserve a shot at the big screen.
