Can Mark Millar sort out Fox's X-Men franchise? While First Class was indeed a redemption from The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine it still raised some head-scratching continuity questions. There's a Deadpool movie that's stuck in development limbo and a Fantastic Four reboot that's crucial to the studio's future plans of what they refer to as a 'shared universe.' While we wait to see how the story unfolds, here are the top tweets from the twittersphere about the announcement.

@IM53 well said! :)
Let F4 come back to Marvel, then I will truly be happy about this.

Hopefully this creative consultant position has more power than just... "No, his costume should be a little more like this.." input. Worst part of it to me is that we can't go back and remake X-Men: Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I'm hoping this Days of Future Past film will be a time travel film and work to bring characters to the right time period... coughGAMBITcough.

An X-Men 4 film would be magnificent if all the cast was back. Scott Summers, Xavier, and Jean as well. Bring in Sinister and Apocalypse and let's GOOOOOOO!!!

LOL Fox.

They've been sitting on two team movie franchises all these years and never realized the full potential of them. Now they want to take their movies seriously after Marvel came in and crushed the building.

LOL Fox once again.

Not excited about this at all. To hell with it.

It seems Mark Millar is kinda enjoying the spotlight. Joss Whedon is more modest and therefore more sympathetic imho.

But WHATEVER, the new Fox CBMs will now probably and hopefully be better than they would be if they wouldn't have hired Millar...

Fox sucks, quit being bitches and let the rights go to marvel.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 9/29/2012, 8:45 AM
So...why are people excited about this? Look what Millar let people do to his Wanted story when they made a movie of it. That was the biggest bastardization of a comic put on film in the history of CBM's. And the sad thing? He praised it ouf the ass.

Also, if they are now trying to make a shared universe, this just solidifies the fact that Marvel is never getting these characters back.

Whats even funnier is the fact that Fox only has what, X-Men, F4, and Elektra? Have fun with your little shared universe, Fox. It wont feel anythinglike the actual Marvel Universe without Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and the Avengers.

Just when i thought Fox couldnt be any dumber...

Must say I'm not really feeling the comparisons between Mark Millar and Joss Whedon. Joss has produced, written and directed many television episodes and has written and directed three movies that I know of, Mark Millar is a consultant. Quite a bit of distance between the two but congrats the Mr. Millar all the same.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 9/29/2012, 8:53 AM
So basocally, the X-Men and F4 are going team up. These aren't even characters that team up regularly. Sure they have a few times, but they are worlds apart most of the time.

And they are going to do what, fight Galactus? This just sounds ridiculous.

It also sounds like X-Men will need to get a reboot, which is actually the onlh good thing i can see from this. First Class was a joke.

ATrueHero1987 - 9/29/2012, 9:01 AM
@CorndogBurglar Are you truly surprised at this? This is FOX after all. The fact they're doing this now after the success of The Avengers(which obviously is the reason they're doing this now) is even funnier. lol Now if it was just X-Men, I would be happier about this but FOX still has F4, so I'm not really feeling this. At least Tom Rothman is stepping down...
Nemeres
Nemeres - 9/29/2012, 9:26 AM
Fox is definitely getting it together after Moriarty/Drew McWeeny's open letter to them about how their movies all sucked because of them. And Tom Rothman? Gone. This buzz about Millar will just remind them that the right way to go about this is to listen to him.

What I can't believe is that Fox got their shit together before WB did. While Disney gets Whedon and Fox get Millar, WB currently considers getting Brett Ratner and Frank Miller. Oyoyoyoyoy.

of course i'd love to see fantastic four & x-men back at marvel but i'm intrested in seeing if he can make fantastic four & x-men into a movie franchise that i actually give a shit about.

x-men 2 is the only good comic book movie that has come from 20th century fox.

Mathew Vaugh + Bryan Singer + Mark Miller = WIN.

whatever Fox has done in the past. These are great times for X-men fans. the next movie will speak for itself.

I hope he doesn't make things super-violent...

Anyways, James McAvoy from X-Men: First Class (Fox movie) also played in the WANTED movie, based on Mark Millar's book!

Froggy I thought tea's gif was hilarious but Ive been known to laugh at myself before laughing at others so...

As for the Millar/FOX buddyship, this is what I had to say in the article that informed us of said sexual pairing.....This should work out perfectly. The studio that has yet to make a Marvel film that adheres to anything resembling comic continuity has brought the one writer on board who went out of his way to make sure almost nothing he wrote adhered to pre-existing continuity.

breakUbatman - 9/29/2012, 12:28 PM
Screw the rights reverting Marvel signed on the dotted line just like Jack Kirby.

Besides they don't have the time/funds to develop all their properties. Look at the Hulk for example, came out the same year as Iron Man, had the first character crossover in the MCU, could have set up for some Hulkbuster action but no....

...Let's do the consultant and retcon that Ross/Stark relationship, and while we're at it lets focus our movies on Agent Coulson because he's one of the most famous comic book characters ever and has years of history to be mined.

At least Coulson is dead and we got some serious smashage in Avengers, Thank Joss!

Until Marvel does right by the Hulk franchise I don't see why anything should revert.

I just have hard hard time hating fox. They've been hit or miss in the past, but they are trying to do better and be more consistent. They took a chance on xmen and FF before any other studio even thought about team movies. They were pioneers at a time when cmb werent nearly as popular. Do the haters know without the xmen movies there would be no avengers.

They do take alot of liberties with the source material, but all cbm's do. Some of you applaude nolan and get mad when another studio takes liberties. Now that they have seen that the public will respond to the fantastical better now, I'm sure they will be able to stay more true to the source.

Alot of their continuity problems, in the xmen films, came from trying to throw things in for comic fans, and poor planning. They didnt do things like signing people for 20 movie deal like MS. They made mistakes, but for me I enjoyed the majority of their cbm's.

good points, fortycals.
Fox made mistakes, but now its part of the past. This is a new era for them too. So we'll love their future movies much more since now.

Damnit Fox is so unbelievably selfish, as is Sony. I don't see how this is a step in the right direction. If Millar is being used as a bridge to unite Fox properties and Marvel Studios properties, then they damn well make sure to consult with Whedon and company before attempting to tie in Fox's characters into the MCU.
Jefferys
Jefferys - 9/29/2012, 3:44 PM
Well, if FOX wants their two properties to join together I know just the ideal!

NEW Fantastic Four - with the original members replaced by, mutants?
Or, or, or, have Reed Richards visit the X-Mansion to say hi to Prof. X
Maybe the FF and X-Men have to team up to stop Magneto and BOEM
How about Human Torch and Sunfire/Pyro having to join up for some fire problem
What about a Wolverine vs. Thing movie?

Man the possibilities are, pretty limited.

Well, I'm just excited to hear what Sony wants to do with Spider-man and Ghost Rider. A team-up movie that might actually work. As long as they recast Ghost Rider. Hey! A backdoor pilot! That's super smart.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 9/29/2012, 3:44 PM

You're confused...they arent tying this in with the MCU. This is going to be a shared universe with only the characters that Fox owns. Basically, F4, X-Men, and Deadpool.

I said it before and I'll say it again, if done right, we could see alot of good stuff coming from fox. Think about we could have a fantastic four movie with storm in it, maybee T'challa. Doesnt seem like marvel wants to touch black panther, so maybe this is his shot. If you havent read anything with susan and storm, they make a wonderful team. Girl power is something that is severly lacking in the mcu. Hell they could even do doomwar eventually.

They could do FF: Annihilators with gladiator, ronan, silver sufer.
They could finally intro franklin, and do onslaught. Its just so much they could do if they would only do it right.

"I wouldn't let Mark Millar consult on my order from Taco Bell, but that's just me."

Good tweet. All kidding aside, I hope this deal works out for Millar and those assholes over at Fox.

I guess people dont read comics. The FF and Xmen have had alot of interactions in the books. Hell reeds son is a mutant. Storm has been a member of FF. We would eventually see an iceman vs torch. Fox could make a more true to comics doomwar, than MS could make civilwar, secrete war, WWH.
