More IRON MAN 3 Stills And New Plot Details

The armor is described as the most advanced Iron Man suit yet. Find out a few new tidbits about the Mark XLVII suit and where the story picks up post-Avengers. Sounds like The Mandarin will be just as tough as his comic book counterpart.

Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) is left to survey the damage caused when the Mandarin attacks Tony in a very personal manner in Iron Man 3. Kevin Feige goes on to reiterate early statements that Tony is going to be 'stripped' down back to bare essentials like he was in the cave in the first Iron Man movie.

The connection between Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) began in the two previous Iron Man movies and grew even more in The Avengers, and the new film will be filled with trials and tribulations that will bring them closer together, Feige says. "That's one of the things we love about (Tony). It is not a new girl in every film. Pepper Potts is an incredibly important part of his life and his evolution as a hero. She plays a very big part in this film."

"The goal with Iron Man 3 is to again prove that all of our single heroes are as interesting alone as they are when they're all together in an Avengers movie", says Feige.

Seven Iron Man suits in total have been seen in two Iron Man movies and The Avengers, but the all-new one in Iron Man 3 represents the most advanced version yet - particularly in how Tony Stark suits up. In the first movie, Tony had to stand in a gantry for five to 10 minutes to get fully armored, he had a lightweight "suitcase" suit for the second film, and in The Avengers a big coffin-sized case could fly out after him in midair and encase him in his high-tech armor. "Now we see he's invented a technology that allows him to basically have the suit arrive to him anywhere at any time, piece by piece," Feige says. "And it doesn't always work at first."

Kevin Feige recently sat down with USA Today to discuss Marvel's first Phase 2 film, Iron Man 3. Feige said that the film 'picks up some months after The Avengers', and that the film will heavily focus on Tony with lead actor Robert Downey Jr. being in almost every scene. He also stated however, that Paltrow's Pepper Potts will also have an important role to play. When Tony is targeted by the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley)the resulting attack leaves Tony without a 'vast array of gadgets and weaponry'. However, from that loss comes the most advanced Iron Man suit yet.

"He basically loses all of his toys and is forced to just use his mind to rebuild and to face his biggest enemy," Feige said.

BUT!!! the reason MARVEL comics allways worked was because any other super hero could show up and help with the fight!!!! THATS THE STRENGHT OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE!!!! So if nobody shows up and the story is weak Mr Feige there will be hell to pay!!!

I loved the new armor from the beginning and I love it even more now and I actually think the toned down gold suits the darker scenes a bit more, like that image of him and Pepper the armor looks amazing.

@KingMarvel - Keyword being "Could" show up not that they should or always will or have in the comics.

@Spidey91 - The Armor always looks different in colour on film then in real life, thats why I never understood why people got so upset about the it looking to pale when it was first shown.

Jolt17 - 10/22/2012, 5:44 AM
And yes, I love how the Mark XLVII armor looks a bit darker in the stills and trailer teaser, and it makes the armor looks way better than how it looks like in set images, displays, et cetera.

I don't think that's new armor, probably just lighting or something. We've already seen those at SDCC.
BlackFlash
BlackFlash - 10/22/2012, 5:46 AM
@Jolt17 - You know that's just the lighting that's still a silver Mark II, look at the colour of the Mark V.

Okay, I was being stupid indeed. I was even thinking there could be a Mark V variation, with the gold instead of silver. Yes, really - sorry, guys.

i wonder if they're gonna work in the "Demon in a Bottle" storyline into this. i know Favreau hinted at it for a future film, but since he's no longer helming the franchise....

I'm officially digging the Mark 47.

And that's Tony controlling all of the 40 others there, folks.

Nice thing they're grounding a lil' bit the Extremis concept for the movie.

@KingMarvel. You said: "BUT!!! the reason MARVEL comics allways worked was because any other super hero could show up and help with the fight!!!! THATS THE STRENGHT OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE!!!!"

Yeah...except these are movies we're dealing with. It's a whole different ballgame with movies. And even so, we've been spoiled rotten. That's why Stark shows up in Incredible Hulk, Hawkeye shows up in Thor, and Widow and Fury in Iron Man 2.

The anticipation, the spectacle, the build-up will not work if every film is a 'mini-Avengers.' That's the nature of the films, showing all these amazing characters in their own lives, and then when something huge happens, they get together.

@TeleVizion Those terroists guys recoveed the armour in the desert, and Stane took in back to Stark Industries. Pepper looks at it right before Iron Monger jumps out of the shadows.

@bogusman Not to mention contratual limitations and actors surely wanting to be doing other movies inbetween, rather than being on call for constant Marvel cameos. :)

Maybe the Mandarin steals some tech of Tony? Or some test is going wrong? Or maybe there's a mol who f*cks things up. Would be kinda cool, some epic twist in the third act.

And I have to say it again and again and again, that new suit is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
