COMICS: Jim Starlin To Write New Series For DC Comics

The legendary Jim Starlin, creator of Marvel's Thanos has announced that he will be writing a new ongoing series for DC Comics. Which character from DC would you like Starlin to write?

On his official facebook account, Starlin shared the following, "I have just completed scripting the first two issues of an on-going series for DC Comics. Can’t say what the title is until DC wants the news out. But I imagine a lot of people will be quite surprised to see me take over the writing chores on this particular property. Been having a (surprisingly) fun time with it so far.

Exciting news to be sure, Starlin is the creator behind Thanos, Shang-Chi, Mongul and the author of notable arcs like The Death of Captain Marvel, Batman: A Death in the Family and Death of the New Gods (there's clearly a theme here). With his penchant for writing cosmic tales it wouldn't be a wild guess to suppose that he's doing the same for DC. Perhaps he's taking over Green Lantern, resurrecting The Weird or maybe even a Legion of Superheroes title?

We need some good Flash story arcs, the Reverse-Flash story arc has to be promising, but they said he was actually going to literally be "reversed".

Oh snap! Hope its Green Lantern.... Someone please knock Goeff Johns off of that high horse ...he's regurgitating his own stories and eating them right up again and again already.

Poor Hal needs a chaaaaaaange!

Want a memorable way to kill off a character? Hire Jim Starlin.

He's done more for DC than just "Death" arcs however.

Starlin's stock in trade is the more cosmic side....

Taking over writing chores on a surprising title?

Is he going to write SHAZAM?!?

@Ccurydog619 True. But him writing Green Lantern would be a surprise. Everyone expects Johns to write that till the day he dies.

New franchise maybe? Something Kryptonian? Or at least cosmic?
I agree that Death should appear, but maybe not until after Gaiman's new Sandman has come out.
Mind you, I would hope that Starlin has moved on from those existential suicidal themes, by now.
Whatever it is, I hope it is a heartfelt, contemplative, cosmic, romantic, big bloody epic.

This is a no brainer. Get him to update Martian Manhunter by first dumping that cheesy moniker and then modernise the character for the 21st Century. Then put that 'Starlin magic' update into official DC cannon and use for the upcoming JLA film. It would be a start.

To waste this man's talent on surplus to requirements projects would be criminal.

Mr. Starlin, please do NOT sully your excellent reputation by writing for the NEW 52. Get out while you still can!

Wait, this is the chance many of us have been waiting for, he can kill off the fake "New 52" universe and then DC can go back to their real heroes.

I would actually like to meet Jim Starlin at one point. I'd like to get his opinion on what kind of writer he'd see himself as. I've got three categories:
-You have the really "out there" kind made up of the likes of Grant Morrison, Alan Moore, and Warren Ellis.
-There's the "middle ground" kind (my choice), made up of people like Roger Stern, Gerry Conway, and Larry Hama.
-Finally, you have the "low-brow" in terms of dialogue, evidenced by writers such as Garnder Fox, Bob Haney, and yes, even Stan Lee.

DC fans are in for a treat. The guy just is a great writer, I wish he worked more often. He does seem to write mostly about cosmic things.

I'm hoping that Starlin takes over one of the Superman titles. Superman is and should be a more cosmic hero. i remember some of the Superman stories Starlin wrote and penciled in the 80s and 90s, loved them.

I think it might be the time to hand over the reigns for GL. Perhaps, he might write one of the other titles, like New Gaurdians.

He needs to pick up a pencil and handle the art chores as well. That is his true calling.
