UPDATE: By now, must of you should know that Goyer IS NOT directing this film. What was propositioned to me as Goyer simply agreeing to help out a friend with his fan film has turned out to be a complete fabrication. An image that was sent to me by Ahmad's associate that was meant to convince me to take this seriously [see below] has turned out to merely be Goyer chatting with a 'fan' as he called it, at a premiere party for Black Ops II. Goyer has no idea who Ahmad is nor was he in any way aware of the project. Ahmad has now lied about being cast as 'Thoros of Myr' in Game of Thrones, 'Michael Morbius' in Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man sequel and now about this elaborate fan film adaptation for Hellsing. What's disappointing is the fact that Ahmad and his associates felt the need to concoct this elaborate hoax; CBM supports many fan film endeavors here that don't have any big names attached. Unfortunately, with the popularity of the comic book and geek genre, you get some bad stuff like this mixed in with the good. In the future, treat any similar announcements from Ahmad and his lackeys as trivial bunk.

Goyer is not directing Hellsing. Ahmad met Goyer at a Black Ops II premiere party and approached him for a photo as a fan.

For many American anime fans, after a likely introduction to the genre from series such as Dragon Ball Z, Bleach, Naruto and/or Sailor Moon, you stumble across the darker and more adult titles such as Hellsing. Hirano's 1997 manga series is ultra-violent and definitely not for the faint of heart. Probably best described as a mixture of Hellboy and Blade to unfamiliar genre enthusiasts, writer & director David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Batman Begins, Godzilla) will be helming the independent adaptation which features a script from Asim Ahmad (rumored to be playing Michael Morbius in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel) who will also be portraying Alucard. Jake Sharp (All My Children) will be portraying Father Anderson, Daniel Bernhardt (Bloodsport 2, The Matrix Reloaded) will be portraying Walter and Swedish singer Ana Johnsson will be portraying Integra Hellsing. Expect some recognizable names from the action genre to cameo.

Filming will begin in early 2013 in London. A soundtrack will also accompany the film featuring music from Valhalla, Amerakin Overdose, Icarus Witch, and Microwaved with more musical acts currently in the process of signing. Ahmad, Sharp and Stefanie Levina are serving as co-producers on the feature.

You can follow on Twitter @Hellsing_Movie to keep track of the production.

Asim Ahmad wrote the feature and will also star as Alucard.

Jake Sharp will portray Alucard antagonist, Father Anderson.

Swedish singer Ana Johnsson will portray Van Helsing descendant, Integra Hellsing.

Action movie veteran Daniel Bernhardt will portray Walter C. Dornez aka the Angel of Death.

Hellsing (ヘルシング Herushingu?) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kouta Hirano. It first premiered in Young King Ours in 1997 and ended in September 2008. Hellsing is named after and centered around the Holy Order of Protestant Knights, originally led by Abraham Van Helsing. The mission of Hellsing is to search and destroy those that threaten the safety of the Queen and Country from the undead and other supernatural forces of evil. This organization is currently led by Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, a direct descendant of Van Hellsing. She is protected by the faithful Hellsing family butler, Walter C. Dornez, and Alucard, the original and most powerful vampire that swore loyalty to the Hellsing family after being defeated by Van Helsing 100 yrs prior to the story. When a remnant-Nazi group called Millennium reveal intentions of reviving the Third Reich as a battalion of undead vampires, Millennium, Hellsing, and Iscariot (a top secret wing of the Vatican) clash in an apocalyptic three-sided war in London.

Really? I understand this is an independent project, but couldn't they get any "credible" actors for the leads? Ahmad has only acted in 4 films and they were all uncredited, the actor playing the lead villain has only had short minor roles in 3 soap operas and the female lead doesn't have any acting credits at all.

Daniel Bernhardt is the only one I actually know, but he's mostly known for low budget martial arts films.

Goyer has been a part of several high profile productions, you'd think he could lure in a few "mid-tier" actors.

^This is what I'm thinking. A stuntman, a soap actor and a singer with little to no acting experience between them isn't inspiring much confident. And while I think Goyer is a very good writer, he hasn't really proven himself as a good director (Blade Trinity/ The Unborn).

if this is true, then this movie will be horrible.

Seriously, a chubby indian playing alucard, are you kidding???!!!! This fat doughnut puncher will single handedly ruin this movie. Alucard is tall and slim and oh yeah, not fecking indian!!! All is not right in the world if this guy is getting work. Lame, lame lame. Goyer if you donot put your foot down and re-cast, you truly are a helmet skelper!!!

Guys, this isn't a big production. Goyer met Ahmad on Davinci's Demon and he agreed to direct an indy project from Ahmad and his friends. Don't be overly critical.

Keep these films out of Hollywood's hands!

Having said that...looking forward to seeing Rurouni Kenshin. I have read nothing but glowing reviews, perhaps because it wasn't Americanized.

This is gonna suck, what a joke. I'm more than happy with the media we have for Helsing already. Easy pass.

Spoiler Alert: Asim Ahmad is not actually being cast in anything, he is posting these articles to raise his profile (exclusively to comic nerds?). These other un-castables? His friends. Lazy information age self promotion at its easiest. Also, the new director of Star Wars 7 is the guy who directed this: http://youtu.be/jZ83SEWw9n8

Just because dude wrote it does not mean he should play the role. A MAJOR HELL TO THE NO ON THIS. This is a joke that is simply not funny. Such a fail.

I predict this is bollocks. This is the same guy that self proclaimed that he had been cast as Thoros of Myr in season 3 of Game of thrones, and then a day or two later they released a bunch of casting details and he was nowhere to be seen.

I don't know if I'd put much stock in this you guys. Take a look at Asim Ahmad's IMDb bio. He's a liar. Then look at his twitter - desperately trying to engage in conversations with real celebs (spoiler alert: it's not working).

If you think this Hellsing movie is actually happening, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

Wouldn't be surprised if Goyer's never even heard of this guy.

So first a PRIEST adaptation and now this?

How much longer are we going to have to wait for Vampire Hunter D?

But if it's anything like these productions I don't want to ever see one.

phoenixforce9 - 12/29/2012, 5:19 PM
I'm doubting this adaptation but I also doubted the film adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin and it turned out amazing! I just have a problem when Hollywood takes on a manga adaptation... they tend to take a lot of "creative liberties" with it and end up messing the story.
Ranger14
Ranger14 - 12/29/2012, 5:26 PM
So...what IS the source of this? Twitter? IMDB? I am not seeing any source listed, yet it is proclaimed as an exclusive. Exclusive interview with who exactly?

phoenixforce9@ That's the thing. Rurouni Kenshin was not a Hollywood adaptation. That's where mangas and animes go wrong is when filmmakers here get ahold of them. I am not referring to live action to live action adaptations.
phoenixforce9
phoenixforce9 - 12/29/2012, 5:35 PM
This Asim Ahmad guy has a lot of "uncredited" roles LOL for all we know this news is a big fat lie because usually when they have a live adaptation the first ones to announce are the publishers which would be shonen gahosha.
Hellsing
Hellsing - 12/29/2012, 5:38 PM
As you can guess from my name I am a huge Hellsing fan. I applaud them for going for absolute unknown actors and the fact thst this movie is being made independently. But wtf the dude playing Alucard a [frick]inf miscast of the century. The shows so awesome coz of him, but man they [frick]ed up. I implore this guy to step aside and let some one else take the role. Also I hope this article is bs because I don't see any sources being mentioned.

Ummm NO, Hollywood just leave anime alone. You've proven you can't handle the medium in live action, leave it to Japanese thank you very much.

phoenixforce9 - 12/29/2012, 5:52 PM
@Ranger14 when they announced the RK adaptation I was like "Kamen Rider Den-O is playing my fave manga hero?" but then I watched Ryomaden (which starred Takeru Satoh and Directed by Keishi Otomo) and it completely erased any doubts I had. it worked out in the end. That said even the Japanese have got a few live action adaptations wrong, case in point was the embarrassing Ranma 1/2 live action movie (yes there was a live action movie) and slightly bad Death Note live action (ruined by a complete miscast of Light Yagami). But i think GothamByGaslight is right. We probably shouldn't put too much importance on this announcement.

I'm a huge fan of Hellsing, and I always wanted to see a live action film. I thought it should have a perfect balance of action and horror. But with David S. Goyer helming I have my doubts. Also I thought Tom Hiddleston would make a perfect Alucard in a film version. I wonder who they'll cast as Seras Victoria, since she's the female lead in the series.
