Ironhead Studios Gearing Up For THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Sequel

With Jamie Foxx's Electro suit already complete, the effects studio is beginning prep on one of two possible items, Spider-Man's new suit or an unannounced character in the sequel. Maybe both...

Ironhead Studios has a rich history in the comic book movie genre. The costume studio essentially takes 2D concept art and brings the costume design to life through sculpture and then actual fabrication. They also build more flexible and practical suits and armor for the stuntmen and stuntwomen. A report has come in stating that Ironhead will start work on The Amazing Spider-Man sequel next week while actual filming begins in New York in March.

So why is the announcement of Ironhead Studio mobilizing for production of the movie significant? If you've been keeping track of the development for the Spider-Man sequel, you'll know that Jamie Foxx has previously stated that he's already tried on his Electro suit. Back in November, Foxx shared on twitter, " Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well." Since then, he's confirmed in multiple interviews that his costume is complete and that it'll be different from the classic 616-Universe depiction of green and yellow lightning bolts. In short, that costume is done. Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker already has his superhero costume complete, Ironhead helped bring that design to life along with Rhys Ifans' Lizard. Ironhead is either working on Peter Parker's new Spider-Man suit or their working on another as-yet-unannounced character. Maybe a certain Goblin? Casting call sheets have already revealed they'll be another funeral scene in the sequel.

Think the Goblin shows up in the sequel? What are your thoughts on Gwen Stacy POSSIBLY not making it to the third film in the planned trilogy? Sound off in the comments section below.

I wonder what sort of suit they'll be going for. I had designed my own version of the costume they might use last night - originally I was going for the insulation suit look from Spectacular Spider-Man but then I focused on where they're taking the character.

I considered that they're making his character a lot more tragic so I realized the costume would work best as if he's trying to hide himself from the world, I also wanted a feeling of a rubber suit to keep himself and others safe in some form and threw in a bit of urban fashion. I settled on a black leather jacket with a hoodie (and matching pants with that), with tattoo like lightning bolts as threaded decals. The hoodie would go over his head and when the lightning bolts come out it would cover Jamie Foxx's face and end up resembling the 616 design. Over it I had a shortish trenchcoat/suit (too short to be a trenchcoat, but too long to be a jacket) to cloak himself even more and give a sort of hobo appearance (think the hobo from Batman Begins), which was the color dark green with black cotton over the Jacket lapel. I saw this as only really the first form though, but the one that would be on all the action figures and such.

I understand none of this makes sense without proper visual representation... lol Maybe I'll draw a clean copy up in the future.

ANYWAYS yeah, now that I understand what comes in the process, I'll be surprised if the costume represent ANYTHING close to either 616 or Ultimate. Some people have tried incorporating Ultimate with just a leather jacket but it just doesn't work or fit the character they're going for.

Very glad that things are moving along smoothly! I wonder if it is in fact the Goblin. If so, we would probably see his transformation at the very and of the movie.

I think some of you guys need to chill out with the costume. I have some [frick]ing faith in Webb and the others. They made a great first movie and they'll make a fantastic second movie. Stay positive and get pumped!

Anyways, I'm very excited to see some designs and what not.

PS: I wouldn't mind that being the revised costume at all. It's close to the classic. But I also had no problem with the costume in the first movie.

Since the costume was one of the things that had a negative reaction, I wonder if they made any changes to it.

@soda Nice avatar decendants rule

I find it funny that everyone loved grif but everyone hates dickbelt even though they're the same person. But as for this news I think everyone's reading a lil much into it, I think they're just working on Spidey's new suit. Webb already said it'd be different. But maybe I just want to be surprised.

If there's a funeral scene in this film, it's probably for Gwen Stacy. If they are going that route, then Goblin has to be in this film, because Electro can't be the one who kills her. But to do Goblin right, Electro would have to downgraded to a side villain. I don't see why they'd get a high-profile Oscar winner like Jamie Foxx to play a side villain.

i think it is a good design. i would like to see more cross lines in the feet and eliminate the 3 lines that come from the shoulders to the stomach. other than that good line movement

Its not Gwen Stacy who dies, TASM had a lot of plot mistakes, but I dont think they could THAT big of a mistake to kill her in the sequel, that just seems like a waste to me... I think the funeral could be flash backs of Cpt. Stacy's funeral or maybe Uncle Ben's. But thats just me.

You do realize that's a concept sculpt for the FIRST movie? That that picture has NOTHING to do with The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

@Mark Julian you should have spefied where that picture came from, all it's doing now is feeding the hate fire.

And @Killuminatic why would you not see this movie just because its not in the MCU? Besides Iron Man, what singular superhero movie has Marvel studios made that's above decent/pretty good? TASM2 has just as much of a chance of being as good as a Spider-Man movie that belonged to Marvel studios. What if TASM2 turns out to be critically acclaimed and really good? You won't see it simply because it doesn't belong to a different company? That's just stupid, whatever happened to seeing a movie because it's a movie? Jesus, nerds are so ignorant.
CrimsonArk
CrimsonArk - 1/12/2013, 11:21 AM
Hell, under Sony Spider-Man 2 was made, a movie that's more critically acclaimed than Avengers and Iron Man. Spider-Man 2 has had a bigger impact on the way superhero movies were made than either Avengers or Iron Man. Hell, Spider-Man 1 had a bigger impact than the first Iron Man movie. In terms of influence Spider-Man 2 is third to only TDK (2nd) and Superman/Superman 2 (first). SM2 and the first one started the whole modern (21st century) CBM acclaim. All of that under SONY.

@IM53 good theory although I read a while back that Electro starts out as a nobody until Spider-Man acknowledges him while taking down a bad guy and he starts thinking they're a team then spidey sets him straight and he becomes evil.

Could see him doing a good act at the end to save spidey though, possibly be an MJ or Gwen move...

That prototype looks a lot like the Shocker. Is that why we used it here?

Anyways... I don't know. Spider-man's costume didn't bother me at all in the movie - like in images, the character designs for the Lizard looked terrible, and on screen it could have been better - but I got used to it pretty fast. I trust their designs won't be too obstructive if they're all that different.

I'm a little curious about the Goblin suit though. Because of how much of Spider-man's origin is taken from Oscorp - the spiders, the web lines... possibly Peter's genetic mutation if there is one.... I could imagine that Norman's suit would look a lot less like the Raimi version, and more like this...

...but less Turian-like.
