UPDATE: TRON: UPRISING Cancelled

A new movie may be moving forward but Disney XD's animated sequel/prequel set between Tron and Tron: Legacy has been cancelled. Without a second season it's likely things won't be tied-up to explain what happened between the two films.

Just last month it was announced that newcomer Jesse Wigutow would rewrite a script from David DiGilio for a third entry in the Tron film franchise. Garret Hedlund has also been confirmed to return for what could be a very interesting, potentially Grid-free threequel based on how 'Legacy' ended.

Fans that were waiting on the news of the third film took solace in the form of Tron:Uprising. Launched to much fanfare and featuring strong voice acting from Elijah Wood, Paul Reubens, Bruce Boxleitner and Emmanuelle Chriqui among others. Sadly, storyboard artist Eric Canete has confirmed that the show won't be receiving a second season. The show premiered on Disney XD on June 7th, 2012.

UPDATED: Producer Edward Kitsis has offered a small glimmer of hope for the show. He says the show isn't cancelled yet, offering the following. "“I don’t know what the future [of Tron: Uprising] is now. I know at the present, I can say we need more viewers....The problem is, not enough people are watching it...At this point, I don’t believe its fate has been decided. So if people keep watching, then there’s still a chance. Please watch. Tell your friends!”

So it appears that if ratings don't improve, the show will indeed be cancelled but an official decision has yet to be made. If you want the show to continue then you better tell all your friends to start watching. Of course airing episodes at midnight on Sunday doesn't exactly help viewership.

That's really sad. My 8 year old nephew watches this show, so it plays to kids as well as geeks. He doesn't watch Ultimate Spider-Man. I think kids know when they're being talked down to.
Good show. Hope it has a resolution of some kind.

it was always going to be a limited series, i think originally it was meant to be 12 episode but then they extended that.
if you look back at the anouncment info at pre release, it was stated then, in fact i think it was even in the first trailer that it was only 12 parts.

If so, I won't bother.

I think a Grid-free Tron 3 could work really well. One of the reasons I didn't want to see a TRon 3 was because Legacy was so perfectly self-contained, as far as Thed Grid goes. To do a sequel where the Grid comes back or is remade would be kinda cheap. The most interesting thing, plot-wise, is Quorra and her existence in the real world and the implications that this anomolous creation has on science, religion, medicine and reality. The real world is the new Grid.

This show IS awesome. The animation is up there with The Legend of Korra. I have no faith left in the industry. Once Upon a Time is going at least two season, and Disney can't afford to keep one good show going?...

I really liked this show. Very Batman Beyond-ish and well done (dare I say even Elijah Wood...). But I'd rather have a live-action film. Hope it's good, and that we actually get Tron himself back!!!

LOL you people overreact about Ultimate Spider-Man to the absolute extreme. The show is doing great in ratings, and the kids love it (no matter what sob story you make up to tell me overwise) so it won't be going anytime soon. :)

StarSpangledBruce is right
Its not been cancelled, its just not being renewed for another season. Please, go to http://chn.ge/RGVunX and petition Disney for another series. Show your support for Uprising and let Disney know the fans are out there!

Why has this been cancelled? Well animated and voiced.
Has Disney actually looked at some of the shit they broadcast? Its dire!
Children's TV used to be brilliant, now its weak.
