UPDATE: ARROW Showrunners On The Show's Future, Deadshot And China White Team-Up Confirmed

With Arrow set to return tomorrow to the CW, the Huffington Post has an interesting piece with show executive producers Marc Guggenheim and Greg Berlanti about what's in store for Oliver and Starling City. Spoiler Warning.

Warning: The article over at Huffington Post covers a lot of ground and has a lot of spoilers so if you don't care to know a thing about the second half of Arrow, click away now!

"We were able to go through the hell of the first seven or eight [episodes] that I think you have to go to, to sort of calibrate how to make a good episode and how to make it on time and on budget and all that stuff, and [we started] to get real, true audience feedback about what people are enjoying most," Arrow executive producer Greg Berlanti shared. "So this next run of episodes is the byproduct of a conversation we've had with the audience and then also our own learning curve in terms of how to make better episodes." Interesting! I know for a fact that the show's producers visit CBM so it's possible our weekly poll and discussion series has played a part in the evolution of the show.

Berlanti and fellow producer, Marc Guggenheim go to to share that the show is really about the evolution of Oliver Queen from vigilante to hero, stress the dup. But he's also evolving physically as well. "It's a silly thing to note," but the show's star, who got quite a bit of notice for his killer abs, has "bulked up" his chest and upper body in the past few months. "He was an impressive physical specimen before, but he has found a new gear," Guggenheim added. The discussion also touched on the fact that a lot of the characters that show up in the first season are indeed DC Comics heroes and villains but many are not at the stage in their life where they're ready to don a cape or tights. In many ways, that sentiment hold true for Oliver as well, right now he's a vigilante and what we're seeing is his journey towards becoming a hero.

Below, are some highlights from a podcast discussion with the producers that contain SPOILERS.
-Before the season's end, one other person besides Diggle and Huntress will learn Oliver's secret identity.

-Episode 11 features Ben Browder as Ted Gaynor, a name comic book fans will recognize from the roster of the Blackhawks Squadron (incorrectly stated as episode 12 over at HuffPo).

-Seth Gabl's Count Vertigo arrives in Episode 12. The producers confirm that he will definitely be back in later eps.
-Manu Bennett arrives in Episode 13 as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke. However, producers caution not to assume that info on Bennett's character is 100% correct. Based on that tease, methinks there's someone else underneath Deathstroke's costume?

-David Anders arrives in Episode 14 as Vanch, a brand new villain and original creation of the show.

-James Callis appears as Dodger in Episode 15. The producers are still undecided about whether he'll be a recurring character.

-It was rumored that Colton Haynes would be debuting in Episode 12 along with Count Vertigo but apparently Roy Harper debuts in Episode 15 as well. For a look at set photos featuring Haynes CLICK HERE.

-Deadshot and China White team-up in Episode 16 of Arrow.

-Oliver will begin to uncover the secrets of his mother between episodes 12 and 14.

-The second half of the season closely examines the relationship between Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) and his father (John Barrowman) the Dark Archer.

- After episode 16 which airs February 27th, the show reportedly goes on a mini-hiatus.

Okay not gonna read the spoilers but damn how did DEADSHOT survive with an arrow in his eye, oh wait that wasn't his real eye :p

That would be a cool team up to see, hope Green Arrow can handle it.

I'm glad Deadshot isn't really dead. I was surprised that they seemed to kill him before he could really do anything good.

I'm glad to know how the season goes so I have something to look forward to because I really love this show. I am just disappointed that there are only 18 episodes this season.

I didn't have any expectations for this show. But half way thru season 1 it has my attention. Never read the comics, so can someone tell me. Are they using the source material or is this made up on the fly?

I really hated their version of Deadshot. He looked lame.

Hopefully they put a mask on him this time

I called him (Deadshot) not being dead since the moment I saw Ollie shoot him...

Also, this article HAS to be wrong because Season 1 has 20-something episodes, and here it says there will only be 18... Unless I'm reading it wrong...

Great show!

Deadshot's ALIVE?!?

... Not that I'm ungrateful that they're bringing back an important DC villain after supposedly killing him off or anything, but how the f%$# did he survive getting shot through the eye with an arrow?!?

Ahh, T.V... I guess your low estimation of your audience's intelligence sometimes works in our favor, doesn't it?

I was surprised they killed him as well so quickly. Until I relined he could still live as he didn't really shoot him in his real eye. Not surprised he's still alive. In fact I'm kinda glad.

LP4 - 1/15/2013, 1:35 PM
@MJPETTY- Well yeah, it was pretty obvious the guy was still alive. I knew he'd come back when they just showed him laying there with the arrow in his "eye"

But this is hardly even Deadshot anyway. Just a watered-down version :(
MJPETTY7
MJPETTY7 - 1/15/2013, 1:41 PM
@TheFox Just because Arrow shot Deadshot through his eyepiece, doesn't mean he died. Remember, people have been stabbed in the eye before and lived, I'm sure Deadshot it tough enough to handle it.

@LP4 I read the whole article on Huffington Post, and it actually says that when he returns, he returns with a new look... That may mean more like the Arkham City/Suicide Squad version of him... I'd be happy!

@Nomis Cool, thanks. I seem to enjoy shows/movies based on comics when they stay true to the source material. Well, as true as it can be when going from one medium to another.

i predict it will be his sister that figures out he's arrow, it will start her on the path of becoming speedy. any one else think thats the direction they are going in?

LP4 - 1/15/2013, 2:04 PM
@MJPETTY- That would be cool. I hope he looks cool this time. They took such a cool character from the comics and made him into just some regular douchebag in a lame leather jacket.

Give me a [frick]ing break. He has to wear some type of mask.

Kjo0212 - 1/15/2013, 2:25 PM
They got a ton of flack for killing him off hence the reason why he's coming back..... Plus it gives them a great reason to fix the lack of mask from before

Arrow is a great show. I love the way Oliver is presented at the moment right now. It feels more real for a person to act that way after having no human communication for years. After this season I hope he progresses to a Oliver that we all know. Gives the actor to broaden his range and adds character development to him. I love Diggle and Ollie's relationship. Its one of the better parts of the show to me.

Some things that needs to be improved on is some of the dialouge. Sometimes it seems the writers dont keep up with what happen previous episodes and they say or do something this episode like they didn't say it.

If the showrunners do read CBM, please dont be afraid to go the metahuman powers route. Its what keeps the core of some characters. Not all characters needs to be grounded in reality

Did anyone notice that Diggs' brother's name is Andrew Diggle, and that he was killed by Deadshot?
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 1/15/2013, 3:08 PM
LP4 true about DEADSHOT but I still think ARROW version was like 10 times better than that joke of a Smallville version, I dunno if you saw that one man, but damn it was pants, bit like Smallville's DEATHROKE too!

@Battabing Something that they will probably explore when Deadshot returns.
LP4
LP4 - 1/15/2013, 5:45 PM
@LEEE- Of course i remember Smallville's cowboy crap "deadshot" but Arrow's leather jacket douchebag was hardly an improvement.

My opinion- if these [frick]ing retards at the CW can't get Deadshot right, then [frick]ing leave the character alone [frick]

superman7 - 1/15/2013, 6:57 PM
Yeah... I really thought they killed deadshot when they made a bow with a draw power of (minimum) 100+ lbs hit him in the eye socket.

Glad they didn't kill off the character but Meh.... as long as he looks like an actual supervillain this time ill be cool

I avoided reading the spoilers. I read spoilers back when I watched Smallville and it ruined the surprises.

The Deadshot and China White team-up sounds awesome! I know Oliver will need to team-up with someone himself to take those two on.

either it's a typo and they meant Deathstroke, or CW is defying all that is possible and bringing someone back from the dead. The dude had an arrow shot through his eye into his head! if they go and say well his eye-targeting-thingy stopped the arrow then i'll call bullshit.

And hopefully they get the costume right this time. They claim they've been listening to the fans, and many had a complaint about his outfit and that his eyepiece was too bulky.
