Paul Giamatti Wanted To Play The Rhino Two Years Ago

Believe it or not, actor Paul Giamatti went on The Conan O'Brien Show almost two years ago and professed his loved for the Rhino and his desire to one day play him in a Spider-Man film.

Paul Giamatti is 5'9". Aleksei Sytsevich is burly 'hulk' even outside of his Rhino suit. Still. that doesn't stop Giamatti from professing his love for the character and his desire to play him on screen.

I would be the best Rhino possible." - Paul Giamatti

He clearly has passion for the character if he's been tracking the role for this long. It will be interesting to see (if the role is finalized) how that physical transformation occurs and what type of suit is used for the Rhino. There's been numerous depictions across comic books, video games and cartoons ranging from tech-based to even mystical.

The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will hit theaters May 2, 2014. Filming is currently scheduled to get underway in February.

Rhino is goddamn huge in every version anyways. Size is no problem because it's virtually impossible. The Lizard is actually considerably easy to do anyways. As far as CGI goes. If you do Rhino, you HAVE to keep Giamatti's face visible at some point and it has to look GOOD. I wouldn't doubt doing an Robo-mech Rhino like in Ultimate - but I mean that's a little Iron Man.

I'm still crossing my fingers he'll get the role in some form. It sounds like he can make it work.

Love or hate any of the Spiderman movies, but they are the most adventurous when it comes to using villains onscreen. Most other CBM's play it safe

5'9" Giamatti as the Rhino? [frick]ing Sony, just couldn't improve upon the mistakes in TASM, but instead have to make them worse

People are worried about Giamatti's size? Did no one see THE AVENGERS and what was done with Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk? Or, I'm sorry, did we find some 12' tall giant green ape man in the real world?

Love this idea! Sony, hire this man! He passionately wants the role, it seems like a very odd choice, I know, but it'll work.

I honestly don't know how to feel about this, really....I just hope that Sony or Webb [frick] over the franchise. They have potential, but they have to execute this right. No mistakes or slip-ups. But I really do appreciate Giamatti's passion for the character.

Stay EPIC, my friends!!

I was able to relax when Jamie Foxx pretty much said they are completely changing Electro. BUT, Spider-Man 3 couldn't handle three villains. I don't exactly feel comfortable with two villains in this movie, let alone two very, very shitty villains. This movie is probably gonna blow if they keep piling more onto it. Two villains, Mary Jane, Harry, continue the untold story. No way they will pull it off. So not looking forward to this movie. Should have just redone Venom.

TDKR had Bane, Talia Al Ghul, Catwoman, Lucious Fox, Alfred, Commissioner Gordon, John Blake, and more. The too many character issue is pathetic.

Molina was impressive as Doc Oc. Giammati is the same type of actor. charismatic and likeable with the capacity to be also a total bully.

I like that.

I'm going to get shit for this but, I truly believe that Alfred Molinas take on Doc Ock is over rated. Don't get me wrong, he was really good in the role. But, it really wasn't anything special.

You know Jaimie Foxx is an odd choice for Electro, and Giamatti an odd choice for Rhino, but both are excellent actors so I'm not too worried.

I'm going to reserve judgement until I see further info.

Look, I'm glad he wants to play the role so badly, it means he'll do it well. And he's a phenomenal actor so that's great. But....it's Rhino. I mean...it's rhino. This is what happens when you reboot a franchise too near to its original, you can't remake all the same characters cause then its just the same movie so you reach way back into the unknowns of villains and get this. TASM 2 will spell the doom of CBM's.
