The film, unlike Dragon Ball GT, will be part of the official Dragon Ball canon, with creator Akira Toriyama supplying direction on the story. The film will be set between chapter 517 and 518 of the manga, often called 'The Lost Decade' due to the 10 year time-jump following the battle with Majin Boo.

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- IMAX Corporation (NYSE: IMAX; TSX: IMX) and Toei Company Ltd. today announced that Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® format and released to IMAX® Digital theatres in Japan starting March 30. The film marks the first-ever Japanese movie to be released in IMAX® as well as the first movie installment in Akira Toriyama's iconic Dragon Ball franchise in 17 years.

Toriyama, highly influential in manga animation and known for his playful, influential storytelling and distinctive art style, has been involved with the development of the screenplay and the production for this latest feature. He has delivered a completely new original story that is focused on the period between the "Z" and "GT" Dragon Ball animated series – or, more specifically, between installments 517 and 518 of the Dragon Ball comic book series, filling the 10-year story lapse after Demon Boo is defeated.

"We're proud to be partnering with a pioneering manga creator like Akira Toriyoma to release the latest installment of this beloved franchise and our first Japanese film in IMAX," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Entertainment. "With its fast-paced battle sequences and stunning visuals, we believe Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods is an ideal fit for The IMAX Experience®."

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology for presentation in IMAX®. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique immersive environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

@NPaMusic They did an english dub of "Destroy all Saiyans" in the DBZ game. It was good but I saw the original in subtitles and the one in the Video game left a lot out. I would love that as well.

Oh my childhood memories how they were great....I would have creamed my pants if this came out when I was a kid watching all of DB DBZ DBGT. (yea I was a complete DB fan)

I wonder if someone would be brave enough to do webisodes of a live action DB so that it could potentially inspire the right director and producer to make a great live action movie.... One can only dream I guess... (the one that did come out was a sorry excuse of DBZ)

Wow those voices were incredibly annoying. I think it's funny how Goku sounds like an old cracked out lady.

DBZ was never my thing, it got old watching people grunt for 15 minutes, fight for a minute grunt some more, starring out at nothing for another five minutes then end of show...every single episode.

KamenRiderJ22, you can say whatever you like, but that Japanese VA sounds like a retarded mental patient. I thought my ears were gonna start bleeding.

DBZ English VA's >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DBZ Japanese VA's

Anyway, I never knew about this until now, and I've always wished Toriyama would give us the actual follow up to the Buu saga we deserved. Can not wait to have it released over here in America with the English VA's dubbing it over.
Havensent
Havensent - 2/5/2013, 12:18 PM
KamenRider, that would be nice if you didn't directly address those who don't like it. So do yourself a favor and stop lying to yourself. It makes you come off as silly.

Now watch how you apparently give "zero [frick]s" but will respond to me anyway.
Stumblin
Stumblin - 2/5/2013, 12:50 PM
Sorry Kamen but Goku's voice sounds goofy as hell to me. I don't care if it's beloved my many that means jack to me. So are a lot of crappy films and shows that doesn't mean I gotta like it either ;)

I have a couple of friends who love DBZ, I just couldn't get into it, neither the American or Japanese version.
Stumblin
Stumblin - 2/5/2013, 12:51 PM
The American version is probably the worst because the pacing is thrown to hell and it's just a lot of standing around starring and grunting. I can see how you guys like the original version but some of those voices are like nails on a chalk board.
Havensent
Havensent - 2/5/2013, 12:54 PM
KamenRider is predictable and butthurt.

Oh, btw, even though many may love the Japanese VA's, many also love the English( superior) VA's. So even bringing that up in the first place made no sense.

If you truly gave zero [frick]s you wouldn't have brought it up to begin with.

Now go find some more gifs to post to prove how butthurt you are.

CavEl
CavEl - 2/5/2013, 12:58 PM

Havensent

KamenRider, there is no fight here. You were wrong and got upset because someone dared to call you out on it.

Grow up and stop your whining.
GSpawn

@Haven

How is he butt hurt? Because he addressed you directly when you tried to make a fact sound like an opinion with "you can say whatever you like but that Japanese VA sounds like a retarded mental patient"

Okay so what, to you it might sound like that but lots of people like the Japanese VA, doesn't mean in any way that because in your opinion the voice sucks doesn't mean the English version is superior in any way -___-
Havensent
Havensent - 2/5/2013, 1:23 PM
Gspawn - He started out posting negative images to anyone who had a differing opinion and one that said he didn't give a [frick] what anyone said, eventually calling the English VA's a "tard"...And then I responded to him by saying what I said calling out his hypocrisy

Maybe you should read what's going on before you decide to White Knight the dude.
GSpawn
GSpawn - 2/5/2013, 1:39 PM
@Haven

yes he did say the English VA was a tard, after he was pointing out that people were insulting the Japanese VA lol, it's fair play, now if he came in here saying "Jesus the english VA sucks so [frick]ing bad, Japanese one rules!" then that's different, all he did was respond to the people who were trying to bad mouth the Japanese VA not to diss those who had a differing opinion.

if those people say such things as the Japanese VA sucks, then someone else just as much as a right to come back and bad mouth the English VA...big difference was and BTW yes it's okay if he did post something negative to those who had a differing opinion in this case, it's an article about DBZ, why try to come here and insult it if it sucks to you?
