J.J. Abrams Developing HALF-LIFE And PORTAL Movies

J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot and video game company Valve Software will work together to bring Half-Life and Portal to the big screen. Video game adaptations look to be all the rage at the moment and could finally be getting their due in Hollywood.

Don't worry he won't be directing, he'll be busy with other things....probably. But his production company Bad Robot will be teaming with Valve Software to adapt some of each others properties for video games and films. BR will help Valve make movies and Valve will help BR make video games. "We sort of reached the point where we decided that we needed to do more than talk,"said Gabe Newell of Valve. Video game adaptations appear to be in a bit of a resurgence with recognizable talent signing up for films such as:

World of Warcraft--Duncan Jones to direct, Johnny Depp rumored to star
Need for Speed -- Scott Waugh to direct, Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots and Michael Keaton to star
Mortal Kombat: Legacy 2 -- Kevin Tancharoen to direct, Casper Van Dien, Brian Tee, Cary Tagawa to star
Splinter Cell -- Tom Hardy to star
Assassins Creed -- Michael Fassbender to star

VG's to movies do not seem to work well. Some do, some don't. As cool and fun as Portal is, not sure if it will work as a movie.

I agree mattspen, I no longer remember what happened in the previous games. Seriously, if JJ focuses on pure action (something he did well in Alias and IM3) the movie could work, but he should stay away from any mysteries this time.

I think Leo, who probably wont be in a CBM, will now get his chance to do one of the great video games.

He's slowly becoming the next Nolan, where he's seen as a god among other directors. Seriously, stop lumping so much on these talented directors or else they're gonna [frick] up badly

A Half-Life movie. That's something I really want to see. And since an Aperture Tech ship was seen in the end of Ep. 2 there is definitelly connection between the 2 stories.
