COMICS: Bendis Says ULTIMATE MARVEL Not Going Anywhere Anytime Soon

Brian Michael Bendis counters previous reports that the Ultimate universe will be ending next year. But what about the chances of Ultimate Spider-Man Miles Morales venturing into the 616-universe one day?

The earlier rumor was that Ultimate Marvel would be crossing over with the 616-Universe in an event that would see the demise of the Ultimate line. That kind of makes sense seeing how the Ultimate line was created to be a more modern, mainstream take on classic characters but with Marvel NOW! effectively doing the same there's some plausibility to the notion of the Ultimate line ending. However, when asked about new mini-series in the Ultimate line, Bendis shared the following:

"I am happy to report that we are cooking a couple of interesting projects with the ultimate universe along the lines. Ultimate doomsday was a project very close to my heart.

I am also happy to report that the ultimate universe is in healthy shape and not going away anytime soon, contrary to some irresponsible reporting out there today."

Looking at fan reaction to the rumor, many were keen on the idea of seeing Ultimate Spider-Man Miles Morales enter the 616-universe. On that front, Bendis shared some hopeful news about Miles entering the 616:

"We will find out one day :-)"

There's a bit more info at Bendis' Tumblr page where he regularly answers fan questions. Curious about how Star-Lord escaped the Cancerverse or some other notion, check out his post and send him a question or two yourself.

If it's ONE rumor that I wished was true...it's the end of the Ultimate line.

I'm glad this is not true. The Ultimate world is still young enough to get a ton of twists, turns and surprises... My two cents...

At this moment, the Ultimate line is better than the 616 comics. Thats just my opinion.

Actually I would love to see a grown up Miles in the 616 universe, I'd even like to see him replace Doctor Spider-Ock...or at least fight him or whatever.

I'm not going to lie, excluding a very few things from Ultimate history, I never cared for the Ultimate universe.

IMO for the most part it was the ultimate let down.

I"m a fan of the Ultimate universe for what it is. You can be butthurt all you want about it, but if you cna't except the fact that it's a completely different universe and not the 616 that is your problem and no body elses. The 616 will always be the OG and the true universe to me, but i'm not going to let that stop me from enjoying other stories and other universes.

Can someone please say exactly why then don't like the Ultimate Universe rather than just saying "It's s**t". I don't understand how people can't like it. Ult. 1 & 2 are the best comics I've ever read

It's Funny. Most of the people who say they hate Ultimate Marvel don't even read it and only say that because other non-readers say it and it seems like the popular thing to do. Fact is, Ultimate has had it's misses, but it's far fewer than mainstream Marvel and it's still pretty damn awesome. It's still the only Marvel line that offers a fresh new take on characters that have existed relatively unchanged for half a century. Plus, it's totally unpredictable, characters feel more real, espescially since character life is finite. This allows stories to truly begin and end and life to go on, and storylines that can't be done in mainstream Marvel. Marvel Now! DID NOT DO THIS. It was marketed that way. However, it only shook up things a bit to add a degree of growth, but room for the status quo to remain in tact and return. As a comic fan I only really buy independents and manga and not the comics I grew up with for this very reason, they're too stale. I have Marvel-faithful friends so I still read EVERYTHING. DC's new 52 has brought me back to them with their reboot as it really gave them a fresh start. Bottom line, don't hate just to hate. Give it a good look first before joining the crowd. Even though, 616 Marvel is what we all know and love because it's always been there, in reality, Ultimate Marvel is superior and has greater potential for far better stories.

If they cancelled every ultimate book except ultimate spider-man i would be fine with that. I love the ultimates 1&2, hickmans ultimates run and ultimate spider-man has only had one bad arc in the 13 years its been getting published. But since ultimatum the universe is a complete mess, most of the x-men are dead, the fantastic four have been disbanded and peter parker is dead and as much as i am loving ultimate spider-man and miles' story it does feel like its missing something. One thing that i find really funny though is when people call it shit because i highly doubt they have actually read any of it and nearly all the marvel movies they love take big things from the ultimate universe.

A great idea. I would love for Miles to find a place in the 616 universe. His costume is sick too.

That would be awesome if Miles Morales came into the 616-universe, just not right now with the ockspidey as the spiderman of 616-universe. Because doc ock would try to screw him up and not do what peter would do

I'll always prefer better stories even if it means watching characters I grew up with die. I hope Ultimate Marvel never goes away. I'm tired of the rinse and repeat cycle of 616.

I'm surprised to see Miles Morales get the props that he gets, considering the flack he got before a single issue of him was released just for the simple fact that he's black (well technically, black and latino). I haven't gotten the chance to read anything with him in it, but will consider it.

I wish people would stop bringing up ultimatum. It was years ago and they've been able to really build off that story line. You guys should check the rise and wrath of "DOOM-Reed" that was epic.

Glad the ultimate universe is great and personally ultimate spider-man is still one hell of a book. The ultimatum event was crap but since then the books have rebuilt for the better.616 has had tons of bleh events and we didn't just erase that timeline no need to do it with the ultimate universe.616 AND ultimate can coexist people!

Hell yeah Miles is here to stay bitch!!

Don't read the other books that much. And just a quick point, most of the people that complain about the Ultimate line don't even read it. You just look at what you see and continue to bring up Ultimatum. We hated that shit too, we know Jeph Loeb is to blame. So just stfu and deal with Spidey Ock.

Thank God. Now, if they tried to improve the storylies, especially in "The Ultimates", it's be even better. But if they dont, so be it... it's still better than the 616 universe shit they're selling nowadays (except for Thor God of Thunder, which seems promising, so far)

I think this news pretty much sums up the comic fandom, all the comments about the Ultimate universe ending were mostly about how disappointed they but when news hits that the line is gonna keep running the majority of comments are about how they want it to end. Fans are never satisfied.

As i said before if anything they should expand the Universe to at least 5 to 6 books. Ultimates reads like a novel most of the time! Its a great line of comics. The only one currently lacking is Ultimate X Men
