Sam Raimi Has Finally Seen THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

So what did he think of The Amazing Spider-Man? Was he unimpressed like James Franco? Plus, with a sequel for Oz The Great And Powerful already in the works at Disney, does Raimi think he'll return to direct?

Sam Raimi's previous comments about Marc Webb's Amazing Spider-Man made it seem like he would never watch the film, comparing such an action to going to watch your ex-girlfriend on a date with another guy. Well, recently the director of Oz The Great And Powerful revealed to HeyUGuys that he finally got over his trepidations and watched the movie, here's what he thought.

"It was very hard for me to see the new Spider-Man movie, I felt so attached to it, I couldn’t see Spider-Man with another director; it’s like my love, and I didn’t want to walk in on my love with someone else. It was just like that. Then I got over myself last week and said, ‘just see the damn thing’. And I did, and I loved it. I actually felt free. I thought, ‘why am I carrying around this baggage?’ Of course the next Spider-Man story should be told, and [Marc Webb] did a wonderful job telling that. I loved the movie, and I’m looking forward like a fan to the next instalment. I love the comic book, and now I don’t feel bound, and I’m really glad somebody’s remaking it again."

And in the same interview, Raimi also revealed that he doesn't think he'll return for a sequel to Oz The Great and Powerful. You can read his thoughts on the matter below.

"I don’t really have a plan to direct the sequel. I’ve put into the picture one or two loose ends in case another director wants to make the picture. if Disney made a lot of money and the audience really wanted to see one then they would make one, but I was attracted to it because of the story of the growth of this human being, and I don’t think the second one would have the thing I would need to get me interested, but I couldn’t speak about what would take place in it."

It's looking like Oz The Great and Powerful will be the first bona fide hit of 2013, opening weekend box office numbers are currently tracking for $90-100M. Based on those numbers, Disney has already announced that they've hired Mitchell Kapner to pen another script. It sounds like Raimi won't return but if the film is as successful as many think it will be, expect Disney to throw dollars at Raimi till he changes his mind. The film opens today in US theaters.

Top lad, I loved the Raimi movies but they didn't age well, I still think Spider-Man 2 is the best cbm to date...[frick] Nolan lovers and lemmingites, the best cbm adaptation is Spider-Man 2, period.

@CoulsonLives - I'm a fan of Raimi and I still don't like TASM. Raimi likes it, well I still don't. You know, opinions and stuff... The whole concept of subjective isn't that hard to grasp now is it?

I personally preferred TASM to the originals, I like that Raimi appreciates it, none of this "mine is better" stuff, they're both great in their own ways, I just happened to prefer Marc Webbs vision

Yeah, good for him that he liked it but this really doesn't effect how I feel about the terrible new movie. There aren't going to be many people who suddenly love TASM because Raimi did.

I myself enjoyed Spider-Man 2 more. I thought TASM was good but I ultimately didnt like it as much as Spider-Man 1 and 2.

@ CoulsonLives - Who says I hate TASM because I like Raimi or respect his opinons? The [frick]er also made Spider-Man 3, does it look like he understands quality?

TASM is a piece of shit because Peter Parker was a POS.

The new series is a cheap looking time waster. It's not an event like the Raimi films were. It's going to be a while before Spider-man returns in grand fashion, that is, if this didn't kill it with it's seemingly purposeful mediocrity.

the amazing spider-man had its moments that were really good but it wasn't as good as spider-man or spider-man 2,when i think about its got about the same amount of things wrong with it as spider-man 3.

at least the sequel is shaping up nicely with the new suit & hopefully a decent portrayal of electro.

I think it took too damn long for him to get his powers and then too long from there to get in costume. I couldn't even finish the film. To summarize. Not a fan of Amazing Spider-Man.

Sam Raimi is a gentleman. He and Bryan Singer made it possible the whole genre that we have now, and regardless how I feel that his Spider-Man films didn't age well, the memories I have from watching Spider-Man 2 for the first time in a theater are priceless. I have nothing but mad respect for the man, and I know for sure he's a huge fan of the character.

Marc Webb delivered what I feel is one of the best origin films we have to date - next to Batman Begins and Iron Man - and I share his love for TASM as a lifelong Spider-Man fan. Really happy and excited to know that among those excited for the sequel, there is Raimi.

he seemed to realize how effed up spider-man 3 was. i think im beggining to respect him again. did anyone see oz? is it any good?

@iJackSparrow exactly, for their time they were cool, now they are virtually unwatchable (screaming m.j. comes to mind)
its like im aware of the role he played in giving life to cbm's, even though i cant watch those movies anymore

iJackSparrow

@nach1wan

Exactly. I can see ways of Sony not making reboots out of the TASM mythology, just recasting when the time comes, but because of Spider-Man 3, I just couldn't feel the same about Raimi's trilogy. It's actually pretty similar to how I feel about the TDK's trilogy, except that I feel that both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight will age really well, Spider-Man 3 and TDKR cornered the continuity of those trilogies in a dead end.

As for Peter using Bing, I just pretend to myself that he did because he just had formatted his OS and didn't have the time to download Chrome again, haha.

I rented TASM and literally forgot I was watching it. Any little thing distracted me while it was on so I had to force myself to sit thru it so my $1.31 wouldn't go to waste. DREDD was actually a better movie. And since we're being honest, Spider-man3 blows it out of the water as well, even with it's cliched built-in hate-base.

@ CoulsonLives

when i look at your lists of wrongs,i realized that there is nine things wrong with three movies & ten things wrong with one movie.

that doesn't bode well for the next two spider-man movies.

it's still shit. reboot that [frick]er already.

ugh, what a douchebag hero.

@ Coulsonlives - You've got 9 for Raimi in 3 movies and 10 for Webb in one movie.

Also, Garfield was mad at his parents for not being there when he was growing up...even though his parents died...and he knows they died. -_-...

At least Tobey's whiny personality was warrented, who the hell is upset at their parents for not being there for them when they're dead?

@ spidey1994 - I sometimes think you guys won't ever get it.

@CoulsonLives

I feel that Spider-Man's wisecracking on TASM was top notch, unlike anything out of the Raimi's trilogy. I mean, there's a difference between been funny like Deadpool is and Spider-Man's wisecracks.

His wisecracks are there to serve the story and the character's arch, and we had a rightfully pissed Spider-Man in TASM, since he was using both Spider-Man and the wisecracks to cope with Uncle Ben's death. Once he's at the top of his game like I feel he'll be on TASM 2, I believe we'll get a more wisecracking Spider-Man in the sequel.

@ ToTheManInTheColdSweat -

I promised your dad I'd stay away from you for your protection as his dying wish...but [frick] it, I'm breaking the promise I made to your dead dad.

Aren't I romantic?

That scene killed whatever hope I had for me to like Garfield's Peter Parker. It was almost as bad as this in Spider-Man 3...almost.

I walked out of the theater when this happened in Spider-Man 3.
