Oliver Queen Headed To Blüdhaven In The CW's ARROW

We got a tease of Blüdhaven in episode sixteen of Arrow but Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) will be headed there himself in a future episode. However, don't expect to see Nightwing there say executive producers.

In Arrow, episode sixteen 'Dead To Rights' it appeared that Deadshot (Michael Rowe) had relocated to Blüdhaven following his earlier confrontation with Green Arrow. You would have only noticed this if you were paying extremely close attention. However, at PaleyFest 2013 during Arrow's panel, the showrunners revealed that Oliver himself will be making a visit to the city in a future episode, along with other tantalizing tidibits. Here's a recap of what was covered.

  • Eecutive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that Oliver will be making a trip to Blüdhaven but that we won't be seeing Nightwing. Reading further reports the showrunners didn't say that Nightwing doesn't exist, just that 'he's out of town.' He also added that there will be two cities that the show will never venture to. It's safe to assume those two cities are Gotham and Metropolis.

  • Tommy Merlyn (Colin Donnell) learning Oliver's secret will have huge ramifications going forward. Unlike Diggle (David Ramsey), Huntress (Jessica DeGouw) and Felicity Smoak (Emilly Betts Rickards) he knew the pre-island Oliver.

  • The showrunners/writers revealed that they outline the episodes first and then figure out if and who from DC's roster of characters can be inserted. For example an idea for a bank robbery episode was concocted and developed and only after a certain point of its development was it decided to call the bank robbers the Royal Flush Gang.

  • Arrow was confirmed for both WonderCon and San Diego Comic-Con later this year.

  • Greg Berlanti shared that they viewed Season One as having 'Three Acts" and the episode 'Dead To Rights' was the end of Act Two.

  • There will be another guest star upcoming that will make geek fans happy. The showrunners remained tight-lipped on the identity.

  • Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) was referred to as an "Evil Bruce Wayne".

  • It took Oliver five years on a deserted island to develop the skills he has so don't expect Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) or Laurel Lance(Katie Cassidy)to suit up anytime soon. However, you will see flashes of who they could eventually become.

  • In the last episode it was hinted that Sarah Lance (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) was still alive. It was a big debate as to whether the show would move forward in this direction but Greg Berlanti insisted.

  • The frequency of Slade Wilson appearances on the show will depend on Manu Bennett's availability.

Maybe a minor Bat-family villain, but don't introduce major players like Grayson until at least another series (Y)

Really?! People are expecting Nightwing to show up? Bludhaven and Huntress are as close as we will get to the Batman franchise. WB won't want use a character from their billion dollar franchise on a CW show. Don't get me wrong, I love "Arrow" and would love to see GA included in Future Justice League movie.

Hopefully Arrow is a component of a grand plan for the DC small and big screen vision (if there is one, lol) and that over time the DC universe will be fleshed out thoughtfully, methodically and logically.

I did day hopefully :)

This show is centered on Green Arrow, not Batman or Superman. While yes, they take villains from the Batman roster, it's hard not to considering Green Arrow himself is not nearly as popular as the others.

So yes keep superhero cameos away. It loses the focus

But what's the point of going to Bludhaven then? go somewhere else. Go somewhere that they CAN introduce a character.

this goes back to WB's antiquated idea that characters cant be on TV and movies at the same time, otherwise the theatrical versions wont make money. This stupid rule will change once Marvel shows thats possible too.

Damn WB get your balls back and take risks again, thats HOW you became the corporate giant you are today.

If he is going to BLudhaven, the least they could do is mention Grayson or some sort of nod to Nightwing or masked vigilante type!

@Tevii
I agree 100%. Why go to a made up city that revolves around a central character (Nightwing) and not even give him an honorable mention? Go to Connecticut or Tennessee, why go to Bludhaven?

You can have some shadow figure standing on a roof top. You don't have to say its Night wing, you don't even have to show him all the way. Just have a silhouette of a guy and let the speculation begin. That kind of buzz alone would send fanboys over the edge.

I want to like this show, but they've de-powered the villains to the point that they're pathetic.

I'm a huge Nightwing/Dick Grayson fan. If they don't at least have a Flying Grayson's poster in the background at one point while Oliver is in Bludhaven, I would be a little disappointed. All I'm sayin' :P

Just because he's not there in this one episode doesn't mean he'll never appear. Obviously they're building up to something happening in that city with previous hints.

Man is our expectation that high or are they just aiming that low?? wassup with this constant tempering of what we should not expect!! I have allways learn in life if you gona do something aim high and DO IT BIG!! but these muthefockers are aint aiming for shit! what small minds are running these show!!

The show should be called the hood since Oliver is never referred to as either green arrow or arrow. I still enjoy watching though. I like slade Wilson although the hood towers above him in height.

I can't say I would like to see a Nightwing reference, only because that would mean Batman is already running around Gotham. If there's a guy dressed up as a bat fighting crime in Gotham, does that make the Starling City vigilante really anything special?

Damn...I only seen the 1st four episodes, I missed my wife Huntress showing up

I'd hate to play catch up with this and Supernatural, cause I don't have a CW HD channel...take too long to download all the episodes lol wait till BluRay comes out I guess and be ready for next season

The thing about Arrow is that this show is sort of a trap. No superpowers yet Green Arrow is a hero in the DC Universe which (surprise) consists of heroes and villains with powers. Now they may be able to get away with this for so long with the villains but how long before they take too grand of liberties with these characters? Then, as many of you stated, going to places like Bludhaven and including certain "Bat" themed villains without expecting some sort of involvement from the big 2. The scope of this show will remain very (very) limited with the current rules they have set up. We will get a very small variety of villains and non-superpowered heroes (huntress never had powers and still messed her up in my opinion) and stale story telling. Something will have to give at some point. Will they walk along the superpowers line with a chemical experiment that gives someone (carefully used term) "enhanced natural abilities" and introduce a fairly known hero/villain or continue to make everyone these kung fu masters and drug dealers. They must remember that they stripped the characters we know of their costumes, powers, etc. down to their very core names and do what they want with them. This can only go so far for so long. I will say this, not knowing what they will do or how to do it is the ONE element keeping this show interesting to me because the constant rips (yes rips because they are too close in comparison) to the tidbits from Nolans Batman films are really taking it's toll on me.

@NextHero08 your right! but my question is if the rule is that non super power hero are good, then why not nightwing he aint got no super power?! Why would a show like this limit them self to these extance, it dont make any sence to me?? why nolanice everything, where is the sence of wonder??

Hooray! I hate Nightwing!

... Nah, I kid. But in all honesty, it just doesn't make sense to feature Nightwing in a world without Batman. Nightwing is at his most interesting when he's either being compared to Batman or interacting with him-- on his own, he's just kind of a generic vigilante guy.

As it stands, I love where this season is going (even if I think the "Sarah Lance is still alive!" reveal is both stupid and pointless), and I can't wait to see who pops up in the last few episodes-- not to mention how they're going to develop the Slade Wilson storyline and how Shado is going to end up with them!

Looking forward to the next episode!

I was thinking exactly the same thing about Malcolm Merlyn being an "evil Bruce Wayne". Once you have his back story of his wife killed by street crime she was trying to help and him going off and training for years it adds up. The difference is unlike Bruce it seems that Malcolm would have followed the advice of Ra's al Ghul and burned the city down. The Undertaking seems to be Ra's plan to burn down Gotham from Batman Begins. Malcolm thinks of himself as some kind of savior that by eliminating the cancerous part of the city, the crime infested Glades, he can save the rest of the city.

Also they should keep Manu Bennett Slade for as long as possible because he is AWESOME!!!

Well, Manu Bennett is just about finished with Spartacus (the show being on it's final season), so hopefully we'll get lots more Slade cuz frankly the character's kinda grown on me... and i remember Slade being a bad-ass/threat in Teen Titans too from all the times I observed it while my little brother had it playing, so this should be good :D

I gotta admit--the Dead To Right episode, I think, was the best episode to date. The writing was brilliant for it and my jaw was dropped throughout. Hadn't experienced that with this show much, really. But it seems they're improving when they can. Kudos to them.

I was thinking the other day about how Laurel Lance later becomes Black Canary ( I presume eventually) and I was wondering how are they gonna do a black canary seeing as they've gone for a nolan style of series. Will Canary have a sonic scream? Or will it just be a kung fu fishnet combo?
