Tom Hiddleston On THOR: THE DARK WORLD'S Tone, Teases Surprise Development

Tom Hiddleston says there's a 'surprising development' in Thor: The Dark World that should please the fans. The actor also praises new director Alan Taylor and discusses the tone of the film.

Attending the UK opening night for The Book of Mormon, actor Tom Hiddleston does his best to avoid spoilers for Thor: The Dark World. He's extremely careful to avoid giving anything away but he does leave us with the tease that there will be a surprising development between Thor and Loki.

Tom Hiddleston Loki Thor The Dark World

With a new director can fans expect a slight change in tone?

Tom Hiddleston: [Pause....] Yes, what can I say...I just want to reassure you that it's going to be great. It's darker in every respect I suppose in tone and Alan Taylor's vision was tremendous. It's really hard to say, I wish I could tell you but I kind of want to hold it back so that it's new when you see it. I know that it will be exciting but I'm not going to say too much.

This being their third film together, does the strengthened real-life relationship between Tom and Chris Hemsworth bring a new dynamic between Thor and Loki in Thor: The Dark World?

Tom Hiddleston: There's a development. There's a logical or perhaps surprising development that I hope will be pleasing.

I don' mind if Marvel goes darker, as long as they don' go draggin' the story on to an unbelievable borin' pace.

I love Hiddleston, i dont necessarily want too much more Loki, but if he appeared kinda like the scarecrow in Nolans batman, just kinda in and out of the story, thatd be nice. Obviously he doesnt need to be a tiny villain they beat up on every movie before the main thing, im just saying after this movie, i think he can have smaller roles.

Unless something crazy happens in TDW, and something i didnt anticipate happens

Then why have you guys been complaining that Superman looked dark from the trailers, but Goyer explained that it wasn't dark that its grounded in the sense that its going to be relatable by asking the question what would we do if we made first contact with an alien hypocrites! Oh and, by the way loki isn't Joker good to be showing his face all over every Marvel film Marvel is wearing him out like a H@

Tell me of another comic book villain that has been in as many films as Loki? How convenient that you guys change your minds when Marvel does this lol :) Oh I see you didn't put Captin America, Thor, or Iron Man Rises on your little list there BWHAHAHAHA :) because Marvel is putting them in there anyways:)

I have a feeling that the whole of Phase 2 will be darker. Just look how IM3 and Thor 2 is looking out to be. The Winter Soldier surely must be dark, too, with Cap's friend becoming an enemy. And with Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers 2 being about a villain with a crush on Death.... Yeah, can't be exactly "lighthearted".

I was talking about new films honestly who even remembers those old Superman films I just saw the first one I guess you guys would since you guys are nothing but a bunch of trolling hypocrites that can't take a taste of your own medicine. By the way who were the ones complaining about Lex Luthor being in every film, but they get angry when I say the same thing about their villains? Like I said hypocrites.

@MARVELPSYCHO79
LOL FYI I have been reading comics for 9 years which is probably around the time I saw the first film (singular). I didn't mean I had just seen it I meant I just saw the first one. Why do you assume things without knowing? Did you notices that all the villains you mentioned with the exception of one belong to Marvel, and that your "lighthearted" characters are getting dark films?
QuestionDAnswer

@MARVELPSYCHO79
Lex Luthor has been the villain in every interpretation of Superman.He's been the villain in all of the comics,T.V. shows,and movies.Lex Luthor has BEEEN overused. Magneto,William Stryker,Zod,Mystique,Sabertooth,and Dr. Doom all have been villains in more than one movie.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Loki about to be in 3 films, and maybe even more? Hypocrite did you notice that your not even writing about your "lighthearted" characters getting dark films or why Marvel has put them in your little list?

Loki was in Thor because he should have been the main villain in that movie. Loki was the first villain to fight the Avengers so putting him in that movie made sense and worked, clearly, considering how well Avengers did. As for Thor TDW, he's only a supporting character, not the main villain, which is fine considering what an intricate part and role he plays in Thor's history. Plus Tom Hiddleston is amazing.

The difference with Lex Luthor is that he's been in 4 of 5 Superman films and every animated movie to date. He's been the main villain in practically all of them. I'm glad they chose to use Zod in MOS but would have rather seen someone new. Like Metallo, Brainiac or even Parasite.

And I'm not understanding how the Avengers are "lighthearted"? Comic characters haven't been lighthearted since Daredevil Born Again

Loki is a very adaptable villain - in fact, I could argue that he's up there with the Luthors and Magentos of the comic world in terms of character arch. He can be included in multiple sequels because the character is an immortal who, as a natural agent of chaos, is destined to get himself in and out of trouble with constant scheme after constant scheme. Its part of what makes him so compelling of a character. Depending on the context he can play the scheming usurper like in Thor, megalomaniacal dictator like in the Avengers or an opportunistic anti-hero in Thor Dark World.
