The Deadpool writers remain hopeful the film gets made and are exploring every avenue including burning a whole in Mark Millar's ear. Reese and Wernick also discuss the fact that the script is out on the internet for everyone to read.

Deadpool Rhett Rease and Paul Wernick

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are doing press this week for G.I. Joe: Retaliation. If you've visited this site often, you've probably realized that these marketing blitz's sometimes result in talent discussing everything but the project they're supposed to be talking about hence, the recent uptick in news on Deadpool and Venom (two projects that feature scripts written by the duo). Below, the screenwriting pair talk to /Film about the effort it's taking to get Deadpool greenlit and their reaction to discovering that their script had leaked online.

Deadpool test footage
Have the duo spoken to Mark Millar who was made a Creative Consultant at Fox 5 months ago?
Reese: We’ve been in touch with Mark, because he’s come on as a consultant for Fox, so we are talking to him and we are….

Wernick: We are beating that drum. It’s the one project that we are so passionate to get made and we are doing everything we can. We have a few tricks up our sleeves still.

Reese: We are living a game of thrones, or trying to.

Wernick: You can find the script online actually. It leaked and there are downloads that you can read it yourself.

The writers go on to discuss their initial dismay and then reluctant acceptance that the script was out there and that there's simply nothing they can do about it. It's out there but are they truly fine with that?

Wernick: As fine with that as we could be.
Reese: We really couldn’t be. I mean we didn’t have a choice. It leaked and we couldn’t do anything about it and for a minute we were appalled and then the reaction was great, so we were excited and now I guess it doesn’t really matter.

Wernick: Wait until you’ve seen Tim [Miller's] test [footage]. It’s brilliant.

Yes, the Deadpool script is indeed out there on the internet and pretty easy to find if you know where to look. Personally, I've only skimmed it as I didn't want to know everything beforehand, just in case the movie ever gets made. But what I did read was hilarious and definitely true to the comic book source material. Hopefully with Millar on board, Fox can move forward on a project that even has Ryan Reynolds excited.

the scripts pretty badass and most importantly a fun [frick]ing read, I say [frick] making a movie give the ongoing deadpool series to these guys they had Deadpools tone down perfectly even has nice little unexpected cameo well maybe more than a cameo since its quite integral part of the plot that didn't feel forced at all.

I think if Kick-Ass 2 does respectable business then I think Fox might consider it but according to a lot of people that apparently know shit about movies the first Kick-Ass didn't set the box office on fire so we'll how this one does.

I read the script a couple years ago and it would be a crime for this movie not to get made.

This movie needs to get made if only to bring a pair of balls back to the superhero genre.

Dredd tanking at the box office was bad enough.

i loved the script, it truly was funny. oh and for you guys out there that havent been able to find it, you gotta type in "deadpool script pdf download." but yeah it truly was awesome. all i would want from it was less of reynolds face so silohuette that crap, cause when you see his face its should have that big reveal. and id change a couple things around here and there. but even with all the minor flaws here and there id still give it a 100 out of 10. the sequence at the beggining is probably one of the best opening on a film the could happen.

If you're wondering why an Ant-Man movie is in the works and Fox can't seem to get a Deadpool movie rolling it's because Marvel Studios actually pays attention to continuity and respects their source material. Because the MCU has been so successful attaching lesser known heroes like Ant-Man and Doctor Strange can work because they are part of something larger. On the other hand, Fox's big screen interpretation of Deadpool was vomit inducing and not even planned out for there to be a spin off movie.

@Hailhydra

Or because Ant-Man won't be Rated R.

Name one GOOD Rated R comic book movie with a budget of at least 50 million that was a financial success?

I dare anyone to. I want this movie made, but you people act like FOX has no reason to hesitate.

@thewonderer Challenge accepted! Blade 2 was made for $55 million, made a little over $155 million! A little more than 3 times what they spent to make it.

The best thing about Deadpool is he knows he's in a comic, and in a movie. I can picture Reynolds already in character on screen telling the audience who read the script to stfu.

Damn this needs to get made. I read the script a while ago, and loved it. One big plus is that they included Blind Al, and weasle. There are a lot of flash backs, and montages, which kinda throws me off, but its still great. All the stuff about him stapling a hugh Jackman sexiest man of the year magazine cover to his face was funny as hell. Gotta keep the hype up. I need this, as one of the few fans that has supported him through the good and the bad times. If you remember "oooohh numbers" or "my common sense is tingling" or the sheep gun, please stand up and be heard.

@marvel72 I said 50 million, and it would most certainly need more than 28 million.

@marvel87 Touche, but that had Guillermo Del Toro backing it. This has no one famous.

Look at Watchmens financial earnings, it could very well be that.

@thewonderer It could. It all depends on how they market it & when they release. Here are a couple more R rated successful CBMS.
V for Vendetta and let's not forget 300(made for $65 million and made $456 million at the BO!)

@Marvel87

V for Vendetta got a lot of attention for its political themes and statements.

Deadpool, while a fun as hell ride, is pure unadulterated entertainment.

Not saying it makes Deadpool hard to sell, just that it's not the same demographic.
