Consider this unconfirmed for now, but Kotaku says they've heard from two separate sources that Batman: Arkham Origins, the recently announced prequel and third entry in the Arkham series, will be the first game to have multiplayer. Read the details below:
Highlights:
- During one section of the game, players will be able to play as a member of Joker or Bane's gang says the report, which also infers you may be able to play as henchman to other villains.
- Who are you going up against while playing henchman? Batman AND ROBIN! More on that later.
- The report also names a few other Batman villains besides Joker and Bane involved in the game including Killer Croc, the previously confirmed Deathstroke and Black Mask, Deadshot, Firefly and an electricity-based villain (possibly Electrocutioner). That does make a tally of 8 villains or 'assassins' if you will.
The inclusion of Robin is a rather interesting development as it was previously confirmed that the prequel game takes place during the second year of Batman's career. The first Robin, Dick Grayson was created a year after Batman debuted in Detective Comics #27 (May 1939) but it is widely believed that Batman had already been a crime-fighter for a number of years and that he didn't gain a partner until
Year Three. As far as the game is concerned, the only confirmed story details are that the story takes place on Christmas Eve during Batman's second year in the cape and cowl and that he must contend with 8 assassins hired by Black Mask to kill the Dark Knight. Keep the possibility of multiplayer in the rumor bin for now until we hear something official from
WB Montreal. If I was a betting man, I'd say something will be revealed at E3 which commences June 11th.
