There's no need to dive deep into the specifics of Green Lantern. By now, every comic book fan knows the details and if you're a youngster that didn't quite comprehend the tragic happenings of Summer 2011 while it was unfolding, a quick internet search will quickly bring you up to speed. Suffice to say, things did not go well for Warner Bros. and the cast of Green Lantern. So how does Marvel Studios plan to avoid those same pitfalls with their own space epic, Guardians of the Galaxy?

io9: For Guardians of the Galaxy, that’s a movie that’s going to have a fair amount of CGI, with the alien creatures in space. And how do you prevent that from going the Green Lantern route?

Kevin Feige: "Well the same way, Iron Man 3 has as much CG as any movie we’ve ever made, and I hope it doesn’t feel like Green Lantern. And it’s all about the aesthetic you go for and already we have an art department as impressive as any art department I’ve ever seen in London on Guardians. And it’s, you know, designing things and believing that they’re real when part of the team’s made up of a raccoon and a tree."

The Marvel Studios President previously confirmed that GotG is 95% set in space, something that already sets it apart from Green Lantern. But if you apply what Feige says to Green Lantern does that equal a better film? Would a better (more traditional) costume, cooler and more elaborate constructs and a different take on Krona/Parallax have changed the critic and fan reception on Green Lantern? Sound off below in the usual spot with your opinion.

The biggest problem I had was the Story and Character development in Green Lantern. Reynolds was decent. Strong and Morrison were PERFECT in their roles.

It's hard to believe that the movie turned out as bad as it did. I sincerely hope Warner Bros learned to not rush things after that movie.

The earth stuff ruined that movie, with the exception of Hal finding Aben Sir on earth. The movie should have just made a live action version of "first flight ", or something along those lines.

mark strong, the CGI, and "the alien creatures in space" (the 5 minutes they appeared), were the only things that did not completely suck in the green lantern movie...the problem was everything else. starting with kiss of death reynolds and mannequin lively.

"Kevin Feige On How Marvel Will Keep GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY From Becoming GREEN LANTERN"

I don't think it's even possible for ANY movie to become "GREEN LANTERN"

It would take as many retards behind GotG as there were for GL for it to happen

@levi he did. he said he wants all comic book movies to be good. but we can all agree that gl was bad for everyone! i think what would have made gl better would have been keeping a smaller, tighter origin story. if they had kept it closer to Geoff Johns first run on gl and had Atrocitus as the villain i think it would have been a hit. moral of the story don't go too big the first outing keep it simple and write a good solid 3 act story.

@ MARVELPSYCHO79

You're right BAUTISTA is great news. The general public have no [frick]ing clue who the GOTG and Ant-man are. All they will see is a talking racoon in a what they think is a shit sci-fi movie with no A-List actors... SO THERE FOR BOTH WILL FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look Green Lanterns Art design was top notch! the reason the movie sucked was because of the script and 3 [frick]ing writers.

TheFox
TheFox - 4/24/2013, 4:26 PM
(Sigh)

I'm going to say this one, last time:

GREEN LANTERN'S BIGGEST PROBLEM WAS THE SCRIPT. Not the art department, not the costumes, not the acting, and not even Martin Campbell (though the guy was clearly out of his depth directing sci-fi). All of these things were fine-- it was the SCRIPT that made the movie into a failure.

If Guardians of the Galaxy is as well written as all the other Marvel films (save, perhaps, Iron Man 2), then this will absolutely NOT be a problem.

How is Green Lantern Martin Campbells fault?

Ever seen Casino Royale? The man is a fantastic director. It's shitty writing that screwed up GL.

And Marvel shouldn't be calling it out like that.
