ARROW Episode 21 'The Undertaking' Poll & Discussion

No flashbacks to the island in this episode but we did go back in time to the early days of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and his relationship with Laurel (Katie Cassidy). Did the revelations about The Undertaking meet your expectations?

A lot of things unfolded last night on Arrow, even though there wasn't a whole lot of action or a 'villain of the week.' Did we get the first hints of an actual Oliver/Felicity romance as Laruel seemed a bit taken aback by Felicity's appearance at Oliver's club? And what about the way Oliver literally ripped through the bad guys when Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) was in danger? All the cards appear (mostly) to be on the table and The Dark Archer (John Barrowman)will be making his move next episode.

WITH A LEAD ON WALTER'S WHEREABOUTS, OLIVER GAMBLES ON FELICITY IN THE FIELD - Finding it difficult to mend fences with Tommy (Colin Donnell) and Diggle (David Ramsey), Oliver (Stephen Amell) instead focuses on crossing another name off the list. While digging through a crooked accountant's laptop, Felicity (guest star Emily Bett Rickards) discovers a transaction that could help Oliver find Walter. To reconfirm the lead, Oliver gambles that Felicity can be counted on in the field for the first time. In a flashback, Malcolm (guest star John Barrowman) reveals to Robert Queen (guest star Jamey Sheridan) and Frank Chen (guest star Chin Han) painful details surrounding his wife's murder, and how that shaped his plans for the Glades. Meanwhile, Tommy (Colin Donnell) stuns Laurel (Katie Cassidy) with the truth. Willa Holland and Susanna Thompson also star. Michael Schultz directed the episode written by Jack Coburn & Lana Cho (#121)

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. You know, my thoughts on this series has been generally "meh." However, this episode was pretty good, especially the fight scenes.

I love Arrow, but I honestly have to question their continued introduction of super beings as normal people without powers. I think this show should stay focused on realism but why introduce Geo-Force as a bald scientist(Eric Lloyd is Bald)? Also, it was great to see that Ted Kord exists in this universe and that according to Green Arrow TV, Oliver and Ray Palmer (The Atom) were friends before he left on the boat.

Thought the episode was good, I thought Moira was a cold hearted bitch when she betrayed the chinese guy, but after this episode I'm glad she did.

On the budget of a CW show, I'm sure portraying super powers would be really difficult. I mean most of Smallville looked like crap.

I continue to be blown away by this show. The fighting choreography is just incredible.

The references to all the DC comics lore is really really awesome for me. I mean why not? It's fanservice. Enjoy the show!

FANTASTIC setup to Arrow Vs. Dark Archer!

Bricks will be shat.

BTW, the fight scene in Bludhaven looked exactly like the one in THE RAID REDEMPTION, but I'm not complaining.

Best episode so far, with the exception of the pilot. So glad that Oliver has finally seen through his "My mom's not a suspect" crap. His bitchiness and naivete about his family was starting to get to me. How could a "super" hero be so close-minded to not even consider his mom had a role? Now I see that the purpose of this was so that we could see his character develop, and see the "vigilante" become "green arrow."

GREAT series- the finale should be EPIC.

Can anyone with better observation skills than me point out what the DC references were in this episode?

It was an awesome episode, really tied things together very well..
If only NIGHTWING could/would appear in this show.. Just the thought of Nightwing coming to Starling city to "ask" GA what the hell he was doing in his city:D
I can only dream...

I agree with everyone that said it was an amazing episode. The fight scenes for this show are GREAT! Finally a show like this with some beleivable action. For example I watched lost girl right after this and Arrow made the fight scenes on that show look like toddlers fighting over a toy, normally not spectacular either, but you get my point. I would also like to note that while Katie Cassidy is my girl and so goddamned hot, Emily Rickards is f*#king hot as sh!t too. im out.

The only thing that I don't like is the machine, it's the same plot as used in Batman Begins. I know the similarities have been there much longer and everybody already spoke about them..But it's getting pretty obvious.
But hey we have a dutch phrase: It is better to steal something good then to invent something bad.

it is blowing me every episode and the finale will be EPIC!!

I agree with you on the machine part...but on Batman Begins it made every hallucinate while here it is going to literally blow sh*t up!

I know there are still differences, but it were both the ghettos of their city(The Narrows/Glades)and in both the machine will destroy them..

The fight choreography on Arrow just keeps getting better and better. Movie quality choreography. Love the little DC easter eggs on the show.

The whole easter eggs are amazing and the fight choreography is insane and amazing!

This episode had THE BEST FIGHTING a DC show/movie has ever had to offer. I was reminded of a more refined Oldboy, except not all one take.

Probably the best episode so far. Why? Because there was no Detective Lance.

CW soapiness aside, this show is very entertaining
Dminic

The one character that they need to develop further (fast)is Laurel Lance because she will eventualy become Black Canary. And Black Canary is a bad-ass, right now it seems that in every scene with Laurel she's on the brink of crying.
ndwwrestler2
ndwwrestler2 - 5/2/2013, 10:26 AM
@Iron The Soap Opera in this show brings it down to me at times. But I understand why they do it, because as a studio, you want as many people you want to watch it.

And they might feel if bringing the soapiness to show will get some chicks to watch it, then it's a win.

Hahaha!! She looks like a real sad puppy at times :D
What do you think will happen that makes her stone cold(more like Olliver)? I think her dad and Thea dying this in combination with Tommy crossing to the dark side...
Irons

@ndwwrestler Yeah I agree, I mean it's pretty much a common thread for all shows on the CW. They have to pander a little bit to the established audience.
MarkJulian
MarkJulian - 5/2/2013, 1:56 PM
@Dminic Yeah, I think her dad's days are numbered. I don't think Thea will die, though. We might get some sort of dual Speedy side-kick with her and Colton Haynes.

Ted Kord/Ray Palmer and their alter egos would work really well in this adaptation. I love the Kord Blue Beetle.
