In 2027, one year after the end of the Fourth Non-Nuclear War, the guttural town of New Port City is plagued with one mass tragedy after another. Enter Public Security Section's Daisuke Aramaki to lead an investigation along with Batou better known to the criminal scourge as "the man with the eye that does not sleep." Running parallel to this investigation is the military's clandestine 501st Secret Unit, which happens to count Motoko Kusanagi, the cyborg, wizard-level hacker amongst its many members. Also investigating these events is the Niihama Prefectural Police detective Togusa. When all three investigations cross paths, secrets will be revealed and terrible truths unearthed.

"ARISE" is set in 2027 A.D. making it a prequel to the original Ghost in the Shell. It's set for release in Japanese theaters on June 22,2013 and will then be available worldwide on blu-ray and dvd on July 26th. The story will be told in four 50 minute OVAs. The first installment is titled "border:1 Ghost Pain." The principal voice cast is entirely new in order to reflect the younger incarnation of the characters and includes Maaya Sakamoto as Mokoto Kusanagi, Kenichirou Matsuda as Batou, Tarusuke Shingaki as Togusa, Tomoyuki Dan as Ishikawa, Takurou Nakakuni as Saito, Youji Ueda as Paz, Kazuya Nakai as Borma, Ikkyuu Juku as Daisuke Aramaki, Mayumi Asano as Kurutsu, and Takanori Hoshino as Raizō.

I didn't see any episode of One Piece but the rest is really cool and I approve but something is missing: FullMetal Alchemist! That's a masterpiece. Hm and I think Eureka Seven and Basqash are pretty good too. Ok and Code Geas wasn't bad at all.

I don't know I loved the Ghost in the Shell series one of my favorites during the old Adult Swim anime runs and I really am not liking the Major's design. To me she looks nothing like her old design and that wouldn't be so bad if every other member of Section 9 didn't look just like they did in the old series. I don't remember everything from that series but is this suppose to be before she got a full prosthetic body or what because that would make some sense why she looks different. Also she looks like a teenage boy with masculine features.

Oh and my favorite anime series of all time One Piece by far and I also loved Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (compared to FMA original series I find Brotherhood a lot better because one thing Father is a much better villain then Damien.) After that I don't really watch a whole lot of anime I really prefer to read manga usually have about 15-20 series I am reading right now and usually go back and reread sections of them while I wait for a new chapter to come out. I have read One Piece from beginning to current chapter about 4-5 times.

Looks pretty good. I wasn't happy with the more recent movies, but this kind of feels reminiscent of the first albeit more action-packed.

It's funny, although I'm not a fan of Shirow Masamune's work I do respect his legacy as an innovator. The first movie was the only adaption of his comics that I actually liked and one of the main things I was impressed with was the style of character design that they used. It made it clear which characters were biological and which were synthetic in a really elegant way. I find that sense of distinction missing here unfortunately..

Always hear great things about Ghost in a Shell (especially Stand Alone Complex) but I never got into it. It's been years since I've tried though, my tastes have changed and I've got nothing to watch anyway so maybe I'll give it another go.

Since everyone's listing their faves:

Tenchi Muyo!
Read or Die the OVA (ROD the TV was good too but not as great)
Clannad
Death Note
Special A
Lucky Star
Please Teacher + Please Twins
Princess Tutu
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Magical Project S
Elfen Lied
Dragonball
Dragonball Z
Gundam Wing
Black Rock Shooter
Fullmetal Alchemist
Kaichou wa Maid Sama
Blood+
Pretty much anything Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki related

There's probably more I haven't thought of. I was into Bleach before all the filler turned me off, Naruto just started to annoy me, and I got bored with Inuyasha.

As for manga, almost everything I was into either finished or got put on hold indefinitely when Del Rey went out of business so only thing I'm reading now is Black Butler (which is vastly superior to the anime) and the occasional yaoi/yuri manga.

Yeah i like Anime.

When everyone else turn to the help of CGI nowadays. Anime stays still in pencil and paper.

Still like the style of first Ghost In The Shell film best. It had life like characters in it.
This new one looks more like basic cartoon anime. And too clean.

I'm really looking forward to this and to a Live-action Ghost in the Shell movie! Yep, Dreamworks bought the rights for a live-action movie which should be awesome.

Well, while we're talking about favorite animes here are mine:

Cowboy Bebop - The best anime ever. Great music? Check. Great stories? Check. Great characters? CHECK! Great animation? DUH. See you, Space Cowboy. Famed director Shinichiro Watanabe, the godfather of starting up this anime revolution, brought this and many other fantastic series to life.

Trigun - If you haven't seen this one then you are in for a treat! Much like Cowboy Bebop (both basically cooked in the same 'kitchen'), it has great music, stories, characters and TONS of action!

Owtlaw Star - A lesser-known anime, this one has all of the above and then some! Yet another 'Space Western', fans of 'Firefly' will love this show! (same goes for Cowboy Bebop)

Samurai Champloo - Don't let the strange name fool ya, this one is excellent! Set in feudal japan...sort of, a young girl searches for a samurai who smells of sunflowers. She saves the lives of 2 assassins who now owe her a debt. Their debt? To assist her in finding this afore-mentioned samurai. Still not convinced? How about some record scratching and modern rap mixed with classic japanese tunes? Trust me, it fits with this show! This one is also directed by Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop).

Other great shows to mention:
Robotech, Starblazers, Tenchi Muyo, Full Metal Alchemist, Inuyasha, Rurouni Kenshin, and Eureka Seven (also directed by Watanabe).

Movies: Battle Angel Alita (also being developed into a live-action movie), Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll, Akira (of course), Record of Lodoss War (more of a short series).

Sorry, but One Piece doesn't even come close to getting a spot on my list. It deserves to stay down at the bottom with the other filth like that Adventure Time and Regular Show which they put on Cartoon Network now. (Bring Toonami back to the afternoons!) Will anyone (other than some fangirls) remember One Piece 20 years from now? I highly doubt it.
pesmerga44
pesmerga44 - 5/14/2013, 11:04 AM
@Blindjustice Woah dude settle down just because you don't like One Piece doesn't mean it isn't good. Also to your question will it be known 20 years from now I will go with yes because in Japan it has far surpassed Dragon Ball series in sales and is the most popular manga in Japan for the last 5 years. It was the first manga to raise Shonen Jump sales in 11 years, it holds the record for most copies sold of a single volume and most single run published copies. From volumes 60-64 it kept beating it's own record of volumes published and volumes sold. In the yearly manga volumes sales One Piece is number one and usually beats out the next five to eight closest competitors combined. Don't believe me here are some facts from Anime News Network who gets the information straight from Japan.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-10-23/top-10-shonen-jump-manga-by-all-time-volume-sales

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-12-02/30-top-selling-manga-in-japan-by-series/2012

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-11-30/top-selling-manga-in-japan-by-series/2011

So I will definitely go with that in 20 years people will remember One Piece just like 20 years later they remember Dragon Ball.
